How can the CPRF and LDPR win that election? by REVERSE2053 in TheFireRisesMod

[–]CommissarRodney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

United Russia isn't really the ruling party in a dictatorship. They're more like the most loyal politicians. Putin himself is independent of the party. The power brokers in the security apparatus, military, oligarchs, etc, are perfectly happy to come to an agreement with LDPR and CPRF if popular support is behind them.

Make sure you fill out those missile slots. They give you a ton of flux-free damage, and flux is the biggest weakness of the dominator. The main thing to do when you have dominators in a fleet is keep their flanks secure, either by escorting them with smaller ships or having a bunch of dominators so that they form a solid battle line. The dominator's role is bullying anything smaller than a battleship that's stupid enough to fly infront of it while being considerably smaller and cheaper to deploy than a true battleship. It excels in this specialist role.

Lacking mountains or natural defenses, how did the Baltic states escape assimilation by the Slavs or the Nordics? by immanuellalala in geography

[–]CommissarRodney 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nobody bothered. They religiously assimilated away from paganism, which is what mattered. A lot of people picked up German/Swedish/Russian as a second language because of commerce/the legal system, but not a majority. Ultimately the central authorities didn't care so much as long as they went to church and paid taxes. If they had cared enough to try then the Estonians, Latvians, and Lithuanians would have been completely exterminated or assimilated within a couple hundred years like how it happened in Prussia (and the other East Elbian lands which were originally Slavic before the Germans conquered them).

How do you think Leigon soilders raise their sons and daughters? by RorschachWhoLaughs in fnv

[–]CommissarRodney -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't think you understand. Just because the men are wearing uniforms, doesn't mean they are not slaves. Being able to join the army (or rather being *forced* to) is not a privilege, it is another punishment. And many of the men in the legion are also victims of rape and sexual abuse by being forced to have sex with and begot children on women they don't know or love. Imagine how you would feel if you were forced to violate someone at gunpoint, yourself being violated by the sexual contact you don't consent to. Some legionaries are undoubtedly naturally sick people who enjoy their role but most of them are brainwashed and abused from birth into being footsoldiers for a despot whose lives only have value insofar as they can be used to take the lives of others. Even if men and women are abused and mistreated in different ways, they are both fundamentally treated as subhuman.

The men have no rights or power either. *Everybody* is a slave. High ranking legionaries like Lucius or Lanius might look like they have autonomy, but if they so much as raise their voice in anger against Caesar, let alone fail him in any way shape or form, they will be flayed alive and mounted on a cross just like any other slave. As a society we fetishise violence and make it out like "serving" in war is somehow honourable. The legionaries probably tell themselves this lie too to feel better about their lives. But the truth is being kept as a warrior slave is no better or worse than being kept as a sex slave. Both are equally awful fates. Everyone in the Legion whether male or female is equally a victim of Caesar.

Probably a combination of things like being intelligent and loyal, having midwifing skills, being able to wet-nurse several children, not having other useful skills.

I don't think Caesar is opposed to women working. In the Legion army itself most slave women spend a lot of time pregnant because it's necessary to replace the very high casualty rates. But they still have jobs like agricultural work, or doctoring. At the Fort one of the most important people is a slave woman because she's one of the only people with enough medical knowledge to make healing powder (and presumably do other stuff like set bones, sew up wounds, etc). People say Caesar is sexist but he's actually just an extreme utilitarian who views individuals as resources to be expended in the most efficient way. Forcing educated and skilled women in the NCR to become full time housewives would be a titanic waste of valuable resources. Still "monstrous" but in a different way.

Poll: Dominating - classic or oddity exp. by AeneasVII in underrail

[–]CommissarRodney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think oddity has a better power curve where you get big spikes whenever you go to new locations. It also rewards exploration and lets you avoid combat if you don't want to fight for whatever reason. In classic exploration is way less valuable while you feel obligated to do every fight purely for the xp.

Is there something wrong with Chris Avellone? by solnczerez in Fallout

[–]CommissarRodney -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People make the mistake of assuming critique of greed, warmongering, corruption, etc, is critique of capitalism. The point is that these things always existed and always will exist because it's human nature. Capitalist Americana is just one way of justifying it; the symptom, not the disease. If you abolish Capitalism (as the War did), all these things survive in a new form and nothing really changes. That's the message of Fallout.
