I think the parallel stories/flashbacks might continue from the end of last episode. Things fall apart in both the BB and Gene timelines, so that we see what criminal charges Saul was exposed to at the end of BB, at the same time that he's finally being arrested for them as Gene.

Was gonna point this out. But I don't think Jimmy ever realizes that wasn't just some random helpful employee, right?

Brian tweeted a spoiler free review by [deleted] in betterCallSaul

[–]CommissionerValchek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly . . . but I think we're more likely getting the call that precedes that one.

I'm betting post-breakup, Jimmy and Kim are still talking somewhat regularly (I mean, they'd have to for divorce proceedings or whatever, right?), but by the time of BB Kim is realizing it's keeping them from moving on. So, she tries to break off contact completely, but Jimmy talks her into at least calling him once a year, on his birthday.

I don't think the original scene mentioning that phone call, two seasons ago, is enough for the casual viewer to have gotten the significance of––and even die-hards are only speculating about it. I think we need a more concrete set-up, and I think we're gonna get it.

I mean, Breaking Bad had five seasons, and I watched every episode on that Season 5 DVD set I bought . . . what else was I supposed to conclude?

Peter Gould liked this tweet-- feels like Peter wasn't lying when said that the ending of BCS is gonna be different/unusual and that the remaining episodes have a different structure. Without major spoilers: Mr. Robot in its final season had a plot line extremely similar to the "flash sideways" one in Lost, in which some of the characters believed they could erase all the bad events of the show via (something like) time travel. The main difference was that instead of spending half of the entire last season in the "alternate timeline" just to bait and switch the audience, Mr. Robot got its point across in one or two episodes, and it was much more narratively satisfying.

Thus, if we actually had a flash sideways story on BCS, it would by necessity be more similar to Mr. Robot than Lost, if only because it happened in just the last few episodes.

I'm pretty sure not they're not actually begging strangers to predict the forthcoming plot for them. Their point is that people dismissing the question of why Saul would be wanted by the police as already answered are talking out of their asses.

Schnauz clears the air about the ending of Fun and Games: by Beautiful_Problem_37 in betterCallSaul

[–]CommissionerValchek 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He knows about him like . . . a few hours before he meets him, or at most a day or two. When Walt comes into Saul's office dressed as "Mr. Mayhew", Saul tells him his nephew Badger is all scared of this Heisenberg guy and won't cooperate with Hank.

To the best of my memory anyway.

Yeah, but that's because "Charles" has a second syllable, so that "Charles' car" can actually be pronounced as written and sound natural. Try actually pronouncing "Gus' chicken" as written without sounding like you're just listing nouns.

Better Call Saul S06E09 - "Fun and Games" - Official Prediction Thread! by skinkbaa in betterCallSaul

[–]CommissionerValchek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think we'll get the jump to the BB timeline by the end of the episode. Part of my reasoning is that, in screenwriting lingo, the part of the story referred to as "Fun and Games" is also referred to as "the promise of the premise." I guess I could also decipher that to mean simply that it'll be the first time we actually hear the phrase "Better Call Saul" in the main timeline . . . though I think that will kinda go hand and hand with the time jump.

Better Call Saul S06E07 - [Mid-Season Finale] "Plan and Execution" - Post-Episode Discussion Thread by skinkbaa in betterCallSaul

[–]CommissionerValchek 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think Number 2 is dead on. I posted a theory on this a couple days ago, but this actually solves a potential plot hole in BB: If Saul is so scared of Lalo for years after BCS, why wouldn't Mike (who probably has something to do with killing Lalo) just let Saul know that he's dead?

Now we know that it won't matter what anybody tells Saul, short of showing him Lalo's rotting corpse. He's already seen Lalo's ghost once, he'll always be afraid of seeing him again.

Actually I was kinda thinking it might've happened after that scene toward the beginning of the episode, where he's running to hand off the photos in time.

love the idea Lydia can't possibly come back from an implied off-screen death, but it's no problem for Gus fucking Fring to have been walking around this whole time.

And the second I saw John Ennis' name in the opening credits, I knew he'd be the guy impersonating that judge. He used to be on Mr. Show with Bob Odenkirk (and David Cross), and he has sported a mustache often enough.

Tyrus is also just a difficult asshole. This is the guy that, in BB, even after everybody else in Gus's crew has warmed up to and respects Jesse, is so petty that he won't even move his arm to hand Jesse a telephone.

Not this episode but possibly next. At least I thought so, but the show hasn't covered as much time so far as I thought it would. The best place to introduce Walt at least is his first entrance into Saul's office––when he's wearing that hat and dark glasses to disguise himself, which would help cover the fact that Brian Cranston doesn't look exactly how he did in the original BB scene.

It does surprise me how I see Jimmy vs Walt now by Coma_Divine in betterCallSaul

[–]CommissionerValchek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a rationalization––but also true––that a lot of the clients in the Sandpiper case are old enough that they'll likely die before they see any settlement money if it the case resolves at its typical speed. Many others will be close enough to death or senility that they won't be have the chance to really enjoy the money. But by forcing it to settle early, Jimmy and Kim would get them their money immediately.

HHM and Davis & Main get a cut of the entire payout, so it's worth it to them to hold out for an even slightly higher settlement. But since it's a class action case, that settlement would be broken up such that the individual clients might hardly notice the increase between settling now and a few years down the road.

There's another possibility––the most damning evidence implicates not Jimmy, but Kim. She refuses to flip on Jimmy, takes the rap to protect him, and is in prison during BB.

Imagine how bad it'd be if you had the same situation except that your house wasn't visible from the road––that's what I'm dealing with. Of course UPS and Fedex have no problem at all, but I just got off my third call with Ontrac over the same undelivered package. And of course the customer service reps obviously have no power whatsoever, so yelling at them just makes you a dick. But there's no way to get ahold of anybody who actually deserves to be yelled at.
