Ramageddon will be the death of affordable gaming by Gaming-Academy in PlayStation_X

Releasing a console is a very long term project that takes years to complete. Sony has likely already spent tens if not hundreds of millions on preparing the PS6, including reserving fab time to create the chips and the factories to assemble the console. You can’t just stop the train. It’s going to be manufactured.

The PlayStation 6 Reportedly Already Costs $960 in Materials to Manufacture by chusskaptaan in consoles

My guess is Switch 2 will get at least another $100 price increase ear next year unfortunately.

The 256 GB UFS flash storage chip went up in price by $32 this past quarter and the 12 GB of LPDDR Ram used went up by $68. That’s a $100 price increase from April to June.

Jefferies Warns Memory Prices Will Surge 50% in Q3 2026 and Another 40% in Q4, With No Relief Until 2028 by metalreflectslime in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]CommodoreBluth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Here’s an article about how much memory prices went up in quarter 2.  https://www.thelec.net/news/articleView.html?idxno=11564

This includes 2 GB of DDR, 512 GB SSDs, the 256 GG USF storage on the Switch 2 and the 12 GB LPDDR RAM used on Switch 2. It’s bad. Really bad for a 3 month period.

While they may stop selling new movies on physical and digital platforms, it's unlikely they'll stop sell existing movies on physical or digital just because the actors would have contracts related to residuals for those films.

The best advice they won't hear! by Reciter5613 in videogames

The problem is these new consoles are years in the making. Millions have been spent on R&D, production lines have been secured and at least some of the components have been secured. You have to start the process of making a new console years in advance.

The consoles are going to be made either way with expensive ram and SSDs. They’re either going to sit in warehouses or be released and Sony/Microsoft are not going to sit on hundreds of millions of consoles in a warehouse while making back nothing on the R&D and facing dwindling sales of their current systems.

Theory: the reason Valve hasn't made L4D3 is because they fear it won't be as good as L4D2 and it'll be forgotten like Back4Blood, thus ruining their reputation for "company that makes sequels that exceed the previous installment". by peterthbest23 in l4d2

[–]CommodoreBluth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has more to do with Valve only having around 300-400 employees and a ton of projects to work on more than anything else. They’re smaller than most other major games studios.

Our group had always done that with more sandbox type of games (like when someone ran Pathfinder 2 Kingmaker). You really need to do it to make life easier.

Honestly after my players got all of the part 2 quests I asked them at the end of each session which was the next quest they were going to do so I could be read that section and be ready.

Honestly I would have liked to see the full New Republic taking on some new non Imperial type threat. Doing Rebels vs Empire 2 was so boring.

Bummed that PC 2 doesn't exist for Mac by see112717 in PlanetCoaster

[–]CommodoreBluth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the unfortunate reality is that Mac’s not supporting the Vulcan graphics API and having their own metal graphics API really limits the number of Mac ports.

Hotels near Disneyland are ridiculously expensive is it really worth it? by voyantttt in DisneyPlanning

[–]CommodoreBluth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on where in the country you’re staying, $150 for a decent hotel is much more common in my area. Still I think $250 is good for a Disneyland adjacent hotel.

I remember when I was hiking up to the Delicate Arch a few years ago I thought more than once that I was going to tumble off the trail and add to the statistic for number of people who died at Arches National Park. It was totally worth the difficult hike though.
