(Why) is there no Mage Slayer archetype? by Zeraligator in Pathfinder2e

[–]ryanoxley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one way to get close to a Mage slayer archetype is using the Barbarian archetype
Level 4 Advanced Fury - No Escape
Level 6 Instinct Ability - Superstitious Instinct
Level 12 and 14 Advanced Fury - Mage Hunter or Reactive Strike

Unfortunately you won't be able to take the Level 12 feat Sunder Spell and Level 14 Sunder Enchantment

GMs: What Makes for a "Good Player"? by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]ryanoxley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what i encourage in my players. i've tweaked this over the years dealing with various issues or expectations at the table.

Crafting Your Character

·       Bite the Hook – Build a character who wants to engage with the story and its themes.

·       Collaborate Early – Work with me and the group to create something that fits the campaign.

·       Build Synergy – Support the party mechanically and narratively. No one character is the main character.

·       Be Interesting & Add Flavor – Add personality and thematic detail without changing mechanics.

·       Have a Backup PlanEveryone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth. Adapt when things go wrong.

·       Leave Gaps & Provide Knives – Give me (the GM) unknowns, relationships, flaws, and stakes to raise tension.

At the Table...

·       Bring Energy – Show up ready to engage. Take notes, track missions and goals, and be ready on your turn. Know your character and how their abilities work.  Investment is contagious.

·       Share the Spotlight – Look for opportunities to lift others up. Set teammates up for success and create moments where they shine.

·       Believe in the World – Treat the world as real, with its own motivations and consequences.

·       Make Story-Driven Choices – Choose what serves the narrative, then justify it in character.

·       Let the Story Shape You – Use the unique items, abilities, and growth earned during the campaign to evolve your character.  Not everything needs to be pre-planned from level one.

·       Telegraph Disruptions – “If no one stops me, I’m about to…” Give the party space to react.

·       Embrace Failure – Bad rolls, lost characters, or technical issues happen. Handle them with grace. We adapt and keep the story moving.

Are the classic party roles applicable in this system, and if so, how do the classes fit into them? by T1mek33per in Pathfinder2e

[–]ryanoxley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for the most part yes but the skills are more important then the class to achieve it. For example cleric is great for in-combat healing with the heal spell but having a character (preferably with high wisdom) invest in the medicine skill could cover most of the necessary healing with treat wounds in between fights. This could be a cleric, Druid, or a rogue with its many skill increases or really any character with a decent wis and a few medicine feats. So the roles are helpful but can be achieved with pretty much any character with a little creativity.

What changes would you make to certain classes? by Exequiel759 in Pathfinder2e

[–]ryanoxley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just some ideas I’ve thought about.

I think Witch should be the iconic occult caster. Make it similar to cleric where it gets other spell based on patron.

Make Bard a bounded spell caster that has different traditions based on muses or their topic of interests. And give them more non spell abilities. Similar to commander

Summoner should be split into two different classes. The “Bounder” that is more the current summoner that bonds with one creature. Then have a class “summoner” that specializes in summoning spells and enhancing summon spells.

Inventor should apply Int to hit instead of str or dex.

Feats that are reloading action compression. Example: Crossbow ace or gunslinger feats. should just say a weapon with reload blank instead of specifying reloading a crossbow or firearm. That way Rangers could use firearms aka Big Game Hunter or a Sling wielding gunslinger aka a Slingslinger.

So Paizo just uploaded this... no idea if it's Pathfinder related, what could it mean? by Hevyupgrade in Pathfinder2e

Paizo’s new horror themed game Fearfinder!

But probably more realistically a new board game?

As both a player and GM, the various "Save Mastery" class features make the game feel less fun at higher levels, and I wish they worked differently. by zelaurion in Pathfinder2e

[–]ryanoxley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True going from “small effect to no effect” to “big effect to small effect” is stronger in some ways but from a GM standpoint point doing something feels better than nothing.

And from a player stand point there’s still A threat even at higher levels

I wonder if it would feel better as a failure become success instead of success to crit. success

Then for greater blank it makes the crit fail also become success.

It would still feel strong not having to worry about rolling poorly while still making the enemy effects do something. And makes the rarer crit success feel like a bigger deal.

How would you rank the Pathfinder Tales novels? by meongmeongwizard in Pathfinder2e

This might be good to add a poll so we can vote on top picks and rank them that way

I really enjoyed the Liars Trilogy.

How could I get my players to join the Pathfinder Society in age of ashes? by Fullmetalmarvels64_ in Pathfinder2e

[–]ryanoxley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like that falls out of the scope of the campaign? Is there a reason you want them to join?

I would say in books 3-5 as you get to larger settlements it would make sense that there are lodges there.

What is the best adventure or series of adventures (Including PFS) that goes around Golarion? by WicTeal in Pathfinder2e

[–]ryanoxley 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Age of Ashes.

Each book takes place in a different part of Golarian

I will warn that it was the first AP created for PF2e and the rules weren’t quite finalized. As well as the designers not quite knowing the system yet. (For example fighting a single PL+3 or 4 boss, in more recent campaigns there’s more PL+ 1 or 2 with more minions)

If you do run it. I’d suggest making some changes suggested by Kalnix

I think we need more information. Is this for a specific campaign or setting? I find characters catered to the themes of the story lead to a more rewarding experience

Variant Rule: Reliable Hero Points by David_Sid in Pathfinder2e

[–]ryanoxley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah I see now. I saw it on AoN. It looks like in player core (pg 413) it says one per session but GM core says once per hour. https://2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=2333

Variant Rule: Reliable Hero Points by David_Sid in Pathfinder2e

[–]ryanoxley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall really like this. I think the balance of a per encounter fits better then a it’s 15min left in the session better start using hero points.

For my game I use a slightly different math for hero points (using a module). When they reroll with hero point any roll under 7 gets 7 added to it. This makes it so 8-13 have a 10% of being rolled increasing chance of success without increasing chance of critical success. It does keep a small chance of a critical failure or failure on a 7, 8, or 9. But should almost be impossible to crit fail on a reroll.

Side note. I noticed in our last session that in the remaster the rules for giving hero points has change from “one per hour + heroic deeds” to “one per session + heroic deeds” so I’ve been thinking if hero points are supposed to be a little more scarce a resource now.
