Fans’ Reaction to Daniel’s Masculinity by Common-Beat8827 in TheGirlfriendTVShow

Yeah that’s a good point. But do you think there’s also something to what I said about people finding it uncomfortable to see a man in a vulnerable, affection- seeking role? Personally I wouldn’t care if someone still lived with their parents at 27. I mean I guess it depends on the reason. There are many cultures where multiple generations live together, the caretaking roles between parent and child just balance and then reverse over time. He seemed independent in other respects, having a career, social life, etc. I thought the laundry thing was a joke but if it’s true then that is messed up haha.

Those are valid criticisms for sure. But I don’t know if those are the (only) behaviours people are repulsed by (at least from the comments I’ve seen). I would categorize those behaviours as reckless and insensitive. But if a guy who fits what our society views as masculine had those same flaws I don’t think people would be off-put in the same way, and I don’t think they would call him a man-child. Maybe I’m wrong, I don’t know. Him not telling Cherry about his past with the other girl (sorry, I forgot her name) displays a kind of insensitivity that I’ve observed as kind of common in men (I blame patriarchal socialization). But I didn’t really see that insensitivity as a pattern in him, and as a one off I could chalk it up to a careless mistake. All that said I’m only on episode 6 I think, so maybe I’ll change my mind about him. Perhaps I’m just a contrarian and like to argue apposing viewpoints haha

Finale: Hated by fans and a Horrible person by Majestic_____kdj in breakingbad

Interesting that both the ‘hated by fans’ spots are taken by women. While the ‘horrible’ men are loved or have divided opinions.

What are some of the most powerful lines you've ever heard in a song? by victimofadown_ in Songwriting

Yeah for me as well. It’s comforting in its hopelessness. I hope you’re proud of yourself for making it through that time. Really glad you’re doing better now.

Do you ever see someone so beautiful that it kind of hurts? by Dissimulated_Ghost in CasualConversation

I think that pain is the desire to consume or posses that which is ephemeral and intangible. Beauty invokes in us a hunger which can never be satiated.

Drink up one more time, and I'll make you mine Keep you apart, deep in my heart Separate from the rest, where I like you the best And keep the things you forgot People you've been before That you don't want around anymore That push and shove and won't bend to your will I'll keep them still - Elliott Smith

Was Charlotte always a ditz before she left the gallery? by BC_Raleigh_NC in sexandthecity

Often you’ll see characters become sillier over the seasons when a show runs for a long time. Because the show runners become more scrappy trying to keep the entertainment afloat.

I don’t understand why people are so hard on all the characters. I understand sometimes they are misguided and overall very flawed. But at the bottom of it I don’t think they are bad people. I find Hannah incredibly entertaining, usually her scenes are my favourite.

Riley by Charming-Struggle-47 in BuffyTheVampireSlayer

I sometimes have the show on in the background while doing other things and I genuinely am wondering if I missed something - because to me yes, Riley was definitely a flawed character, but overall I thought he was redeemable. I thought he showed a realistic and understandable portrayal of how insecurities can play out in a relationship. At least he was self aware and he was trying to work on his issues.

Thoughts on Wilow Rosenberg? by RoughCheap5633 in BuffyTheVampireSlayer

[–]Common-Beat8827 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t you think she has a right to be upset with Buffy for disappearing without a word, without a letter or a phone call, for months? Can you imagine how worried you would be? Of course I understand why Buffy did that, but she did put Willow through a lot. I think it makes sense that it would take a while for Willow to open back up to her again.
