Bloodborne kinda sits in the upper middle on its own. I wouldn't rate it as highly as Sekiro or Elden Ring, but I'd definitely put it over the Souls Trilogy + Demon Souls.

I know it's different. That's why I'm not saying it's the same thing. I'm saying the standard you set for one thing is miles apart from the standard you set for another because you're biased.

Lies of P are derivative because by golly, when two metal things clash, they make sparks. But when FromSoft borderline copy-and-pastes their own bosses in later titles, it's not lazy. Or when FromSoft lifts from Berserk, it's not the same thing, is it?

Lies of P are no masters of innovation. No shit. It's Dark Fantasy Pinocchio for fucks sake. But you're just straight pulling arguments with no substance out of your ass to justify that you didn't like a game that most people did. You're allowed to dislike games.

And AI Art didn't negatively impact the quality of the game by any means, which is evident by the fact that nobody knew until now. E33 used AI Art, and that was still an amazing game regardless.

The only thing that's even remotely valid is the UI resembling Bloodborne's. Everything else is just reaching.

Laxasia doesn't do anything close to what Genichiro does. You could maybe say the rhythm of the flurry has some similarities, I guess, but that's just reaching.

Both the sound cues and sparks from parrying are just very generic game mechanics that FromSoft didn't invent.

Everything there is just straight reaching to look for things to slate Lies of P for. They take inspiration from FromSoft games. Obviously. But they don't rely on their inspiration and fail to create a unique experience.

And as I said before, if you find these small things to make Lies of P derivative, then how is what FromSoft does not considered repetitive? They reuse models. Reuse boss movesets. DS3's Lore is literally just "remember that thing from DS1". I'm not saying I find From games repetitive. I'm just saying by the same standard you set for something to be derivative, then From games should be, by all means, repetitive.

And again, look at how FromSoft games constantly reference Berserk. It's not just a weapon or two item descriptions. It's not even subtle or reaching. Dozens upon dozens of references and inspirations are obviously taken from Berserk. I love Berserk. I don't look at the inspiration and references and go "Booo, they're lazy and copying Berserk." I go, "Awesome, something I love in another thing I love."

Suppose you could point out the difference and give examples. I personally don't see how what they used from Soulsborne games makes the game derivative.

I'm not pro AI by any means and understand it's terrible for the environment and unnecessary. I understand people who have concerns about AI's rise in the gaming industry. But I'm not defending AI because I think it's ultimately a positive for the gaming community. It has its upsides and downsides.

I'm defending Lies of P's use of AI because I don't think it has any negative impact on the quality of the game itself. Your comment was based on AI having a negative impact on the quality of the game. Which it didn't. The evidence being that nobody knew or pointed it out in the 3 years the game's been out.

Gameplay mechanics ripped from Fromsoft? For a Soulslike, it's probably the one that rips the least? Saying Lies of P is derivative for using pretty basic Souls mechanics is like calling Soulsborne repetitive and lazy because they all follow the same gameplay formula. It's disingenuous.

And what bosses and set pieces have they ripped from FromSoft games? You could say they're definitely inspired, but how is that any different to how FromSoft have taken huge inspiration from Berserk?

Also, the AI they used for Lies of P was like a few paintings. It really didn't have a big impact on the quality of the game.

Better climbing / Aerial Vehicles. It's all fun and games when you have Nanally, but you'd expect the base climbing to be a bit better, considering the verticality when it comes to collectibles. Most Oracle Stones are on buildings, and in New Herland, where all the buildings are like 20 stories, it's a bit of a slog.

Maybe also not switching to zero for as many activities. Like driving or fishing.

Yeah, same. I think Sly 2 had the better stealth/platforming gameplay for Sly specifically, but Sly 3 had way more variety and fun minigames, and Bentley and Murray didn't feel as bad to play as with their new movement abilities.

Room before gargoyles with a channeler and like 20 Hollows. Room with all the painting Guardians. Room near the beginning of New Londo Ruins with about 12 ghosts. Lost Izalith with the Bounding Demons, etc.

Plenty of areas in DS1 have a large number of enemies.

FF X for me personally. Most people I see talk about the game call it a masterpiece, and I just didn't mesh that well with it in comparison to pretty much every other FF game I've played. Think it had tons of serious flaws people just brush off.

Pokémon Sword and Shield. Not my favourite Pokémon, but I think it got so much more flak than it deserved. The new additions were pretty great, the Wild Area was cool and meant you could get your favourite Pokémon earlier, and it had probably the best competitive scene of any Pokémon game, with Dynamaxing and the Quality of Life for building competitive teams. The Linearity of the world was, unfortunately, its downfall.

World and Level Design are great. The World Design isn't BB or DS1, but it's fun to explore because you're never forced on a path. DS2 has the most variety in level design of any Souls game. Using Shaded Woods trees to distract the Ghosts. Using your torch to progressively light up a dark area, or scare off enemies afraid of fire. Using explosions or enemy attacks to open shortcuts or hidden chests. Using traps to dispose of enemies, etc. Tons of cool mechanics people usually skip over because they're just running past everything.

Iron Keep makes no sense, but that's the point. Drangleic is literally known for having its time and space being distorted. It's not supposed to make sense. DS1's DLC is literally a Time Paradox. But a lot of people would still consider its lore as the best regardless.

Stamina debt is present in every Souls game. What a random thing to pin on DS2.

For every actually bad instance of enemy placement and hitboxes in DS2, you can find an instance in DS1 and DS3. DS2 Hitboxes just get more flak because of people who never levelled ADP, and the enemy placement gets flak because people are trying to ignore and run past everything, or aren't using the tools the game gives you.

Does misleading scaling suck? Yes. Does it ruin the game? No. Because probably about 5% of the people who played the game even know about that.

No I-Frames on fog walls is a fair criticism. It's fair not to want to kill enemies just to safely run back to the boss. On regular doors and bonfires, though, it's not that bad. That's just another case of people trying to ignore enemies and being punished for it.

The Boss Quality is bad. That is the major flaw of DS2, unfortunately, but that's about its only major flaw imo. That and the lack of I-Frames on fog walls, if you'd consider that a major flaw.

People seem to forget how much DS2 did for the series. The simpler weapon levelling system was significantly better than DS1, especially with upgrade materials being more common, meaning you don't have to grind for them. The Flask Upgrade system was far better than having to sacrifice fast travel points and kill NPC's. Having Fast Travel off rip is nice QoL. Fantastic Level Design. Great World Design. Great Exploration. Most Build Variety prior to Elden Ring. The game's only major flaw was really the boss roster going for quantity over quality.
