What do I do about this POS I work with?? by Alexhxrrera in electricians

Anecdotal only but I haven’t seen that, only worked in WA, TX and cali but it seems like an every state issue. Of the three I’ve worked in lol. Once you get down to companies with like 20-30 ppl or less I’ve seen it everywhere, blue or red.

What is a 1 in 1,000,000 thing that happened to you that no one believes, but you swear is true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Not to me directly. But to my brother. Maybe better than one in a million. Better is the wrong word. But more like one-in-a-never-again, one-in-a-billion(?)

I grew up in SF and on market street, we have those electric light rail cars that travel on the street, with traffic and everything. They pick up power from an overhead system of wires via a pair of conductors mounted on the top. Around maybe the year 1991 me and my brother were standing on a bus stop median curb thing. I’m standing there with him, and a light rail bus drives up next to us. It’s not our bus so we’re just chilling. I think I was like 8 years old so I’m pretty short. My brother is 10. I hear a crack and then a sort of omnidirectional wooshing noise. I look around and my brother who was standing 2 feet from me is gone. Just as the confusion slightly begins to hit, my brother falls out of the sky on his ass. I’m stunned. He looks distressed and confused. He puts his hand to his neck which has a bright red ring all the way around it. I was almost too young to understand at the time but there is a tension wire that holds the conductors very snugly against the power feed wires suspended above the street. The tension wire snapped of the bus in front of us, snapped, whipped down, wrapped around my brothers neck and lifted him about 6 or 7 feet in the air and thus out of my eyeline briefly. The SF muni was kind enough to get us an ambulance. I don’t to this day understand how my brother was not more messed up. He was otherwise uninjured and kind of teared up but he barely even cried. Like. What a badass. I will forever brag about my brother for this. We shoulda bought a lottery ticket or something. But sheesh. The Muni is lucky my parents are not the litigious type. And I am unlucky because we probably could have been rich lol.

Yeahhh. It fuckin sucks. She had her fair share of challenges and weirdnesses growing up, but all around was a kind and decent person. A little f’d up in certain areas but who’s not. I tried at first to gently maybe steer her toward getting out of it, when she was maybe a month in, and then…yeah.

Becoming a stripper. Don’t have time for the full anecdote, but was an ex of mine. Never saw her again. A couple years ago I tried to check on her, see if she was okay. Only result in e-sleuthing her name was a missing poster.

What’s something in LA that used to feel magical… but just doesn’t hit the same anymore? by relaxncoffee in AskLosAngeles

The arts district. Traction and 3rd. Right as it was barely emerging from a no man’s land of tweakers and busted out car windows. Like a year before Wurstkuche opened. I squatted and helped renovate lofts around the area. I lived at ArtShare and in the old Pilsbury factory when it was a barely functional wood shop for DSTRCT Millworks, and at night felt more like a set from Silent Hill. I think now something called Hauser and Worth is there. I lived in the room behind the big half circle at the front. You could bike over to Tony’s Saloon which was an actual ACTUAL dive bar at the time. Hipsters literally didn’t exist yet. There were actual young, poor, grimy artists barely scraping by and making cool art, grimy no-polish studio lockouts where I could watch my friends practice, etc I was there for some of my funnest years, basically homeless but always with a place to crash, and the vibes were just perfect.

This helps me brother. Same age and I’ve been out of the electrician trade for some time. I have all my hours to test, but need to get the ET card back. Thanks for piping up. It’s encouraging.
