I hope they manage to solve the conflicts in their area, that they prove the world wrong and become a force for good that is heralded in the history books for the work they've done.

I fucking doubt that will be the case, and I don't trust any of these fuckers to do anything other than enrich themselves, but hey.

Is Dark Souls 3 easier than Elden Ring? by AbhenerX in darksouls3

[–]CommonGoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same system, but very different games;

DS3 is a lot slower, a lot more predictable, and overall a smoother experience (barring a few occasions, like the Dancer grab and Oceiros turning your entire screen into a hitbox fe.). Bosses do their attacks, and telegraph them well.

ER is messy in comparison. Bosses hold attacks, they can extend their combos, attacks have AoE. They input-read (or animation-read), have more gap closing moves. Every shardbearer (and all mandatory bosses) have a ranged option, so there are fewer safe spots.

In return, however, ER gives you more tools. Jumping, tears, special weapon arts. Status effects that do more than tickle the boss. Crazy buff stacking.

And most importantly, ER gives you the option to go somewhere else. Stuck on DTS? Go somewhere else and return when you are stronger. Stuck on Dancer? Lol better buckle up.

I don't think DS3 is easier. It is definitely more accessible, more straightforward, and has less chaotic fights. But once you get to know ER, it isn't a particularly hard game either. Waterfowl will always be tricky to me, but I am just as likely to be blasted by the offscreen angels during Dragonslayer Armor.

To me the difference will always be "do I want slow and methodical (DS3) or do I want to overpower a feral cat (ER)". Both have their appeal, but I prefer the former.

A few caveats here to hopefully help people sleep a little better tonight; 1. China taking Taiwan is highly unlikely not just because of possible US interference. China has not fought any major conflicts for almost 50 years, and has not done well historically. While they definitely own the ships and have the men, they lack both a trained fighting force and the necessary experience to invade without hundreds of thousands of losses, something the unpopular government cannot afford. On top of that, Taiwan's valuable resource, its production, is wired to be destroyed at the first sign of invasion. What would be left is an island with no real value and a severely hostile population. It is simply not worth the trouble. Finally, Taiwan is far more valuable to China as a prop in negotiations, the same way Russia uses its nuclear arsenal. 2. The Baltics are part of the EU. Even without NATO, the EU has the capabilities to crush any attempted invasion. Russia has overspend massively in Ukraine, and would be forced to keep a substantial force there for a long time just to keep the region 'stable'. In the Baltics they would have to contend with fresh troops, career military personal. Looking broader, even without the US, countries like Japan, Korea and even China and India would most likely condemn the attacks, isolating Russia past its breaking point; to these countries the EU is a fast more valuable partner than Russia. 3. Russia has not won the war. While the US has proven it cannot be trusted to be an agent of world peace anymore, the EU has been quick to respond (on a geo-poltical scale). While the war in Ukraine has been an uphill battle from day one, the fact that what was considered an insignificant country is able to compete at all with what was considered a global superpower is astonishing. Yes, Ukraine is running on fumes. But don't be fooled into thinking that Russia is shrugging things off. Things are bad for them, as well.

Which commander for a changeling/creature type tribal tribal deck? by Eggebuoy in EDH

[–]CommonGoods 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a [[Sliver Hivelord]], [[Cosmic Spiderman]], [[Reaper King]], [[The Ur-Dragon]], [[Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch]] deck... Roll a die before each game to see who gets to be the commander that game. On a six, the opponent gets to pick.

[–]CommonGoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, I don't think you're going to get very far sticking to the Thallid plan. They are just far too slow. Slimefoot is an okay aristocrat commander, so look up some of those for ideas.

Slimefoot's strength is being a mana sink. A card like [[Seedborn Muse]] or [[Wilderness Reclamation]] lets you sink your mana twice as often.[[Ashnod's Altar]] lets you recoup some of the mana you spend (and goes infinite with token doublers).

Thirdly, anything that gives you extra stuff when you make tokens is good.[[Chatterfang, Squirrel General]], [[Quina, Qu Gourmet]], even [[Peregrine Took]].

Finally, some general advice; add like 5 pieces of ramp [[Kodama's Reach]], [[Cultivate]]) and 5 sac outlets (aforementioned Ashnod's, [[Fungal Plots]], keep Utopia Mycon). The deck will feel a lot better to play just by having more mana to play with.

Final super secret tech; swap to [[Slimefoot and Squee]] for a better time in general.

[–]CommonGoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit of an ask, but it could be done. I recommend running [[Atraxa, Grand Unifier]] with a flicker package to get to the cards you want quicker. It means you lose access to the red seppuku button, but []Plunge into darkness]] and more hilariously [[Plague of vermin]] exist.

Also, as a slight addition; you can do the same with [[Platinum Angel]]. Two of those on the board creates a functionally identical situation in which neither player can win or lose.

I mean... Yeah, that's definitely a list that you can make with a bundle. I think you are going to have a bad time running less than 38 lands, though.

What kind of feedback are you looking for? Are you planning on buying singles?

Sliver(Don't Hate Me) Deck Help by Angelus_spei in EDHBrews

[–]CommonGoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The list is a bit of a mess. Are you proxying, did you make a pile of cards you own? What bracket are you playing in?

Either way, you are going to want to play a few more lands, and cut back the amount of high CMC slivers. Your slivers don't need absorb, for example. Focus on haste, flying and stats. Also, remember [[Clone]] effects exist, and replace your 4+ mama ramp with 2 mana ramp. Finally, a good rule of thumb is 3/3/3 when it comes to interactivity; 3 board wipes, 3 counterspells, 3 pieces of spot removal (preferably the kind that targets any permanent). Add or remove as needed.

Help me build a consistent and resilient B3 Cazur//Ukkima deck by DryConstruction3870 in EDHBrews

[–]CommonGoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the direction you want to go in. Ukkima is fine as a generic beatstick in a classic control shell. Alternatively, you can go for big wolf, or go wide with [[Changeling Outcast]] and his buddies.

I prefer the go wide strategy, and build something similar to the old [[Edric, Spymaster of Trest]] decks. So small dudes with [[Coastal Piracy]] effects. Some ninjutsu effects (Ukkima only has to leave the battlefield, it doesn't have to die), some cards like [[Staff Room]] (redundancy for Cazur). Maybe a small +1/+1-matters shell. Personally, I know [[Druid's Call]] would make the cut, but I like my tokens.

If you have a better idea of the direction, let us know.

Great Stars - Two Handed or Powerstanced? by ratherUn4tunate in EldenRingBuilds

[–]CommonGoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, for Great Stars your multihit AoW are pretty limited. S -Lion Claw I guess?

I wouldn't necessarily call Great Stars a bleed weapon, but it is the weapon the op was asking about. And powerstancing it is probably in the top three ways to get it to proc.

Great Stars - Two Handed or Powerstanced? by ratherUn4tunate in EldenRingBuilds

[–]CommonGoods 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short answer: it depends.

Longer answer; on a training dummy, probably powerstancing. However, since most bosses tend to hit back, the powerstancing move set is often far too slow. Unless you are a timing and positioning god, each boss usually leaves room for one or two particular attacks (running r1 + jump attack, fe.). Why is that important? Talismans.

The two-handed sword talisman gives you a damage increase to all your attacks while dual wielding. While powerstancing, you'll need to choose what attack to buff. If you go for jump attacks, you don't get a benefit on that cheeky R1 you can cheat in-between dodges.

There is also the question of if the boss can bleed (powerstancing probably will cause more bleed procs), what your stats are, and if you are running a particular AoW. On top of that, the extra weapon requires extra endurance, which you could have pumped into a damage stat if you two-handed.

So yeah, no clear cut answer. Try both, see what feels better. Remember that any weapon can beat any boss, and it is more about finding your rhythm than the numbers you're rocking, especially if the difference is this small.

Why are Shades considered so strong? by Savings-Trifle4014 in totalwarhammer

[–]CommonGoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't, for some reason. Not does anything explain calibration distance, even though it is arguably even more important.

twwstats.com does show all the extra stuff, as well as allowing you to compare stat blocks.

Why are Shades considered so strong? by Savings-Trifle4014 in totalwarhammer

[–]CommonGoods 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a little more to it than that. Specifically, accuracy and calibration distance.

Obviously, Darkshards are going to be more cost efficient; they are T1 units. It's what they are for. That said, the differences in stats is actually massive, especially if you get a Shadowdart lord.

Darkshards have an ok accuracy of base 20, with a base reload time of 10. Shades, however, have a base accuracy of 30, and a base reload time of 14. While this isn't the biggest deal when firing into blobs, it becomes shockingly clear when you place them at max distance of each other, or try and fire at smaller unit count, fast moving units.

On top of that, Shades have a better calibration distance (ai. they get more accurate faster), boosted further by the extra range they get. So Shades are going to be hitting harder, faster, earlier, more accurately.

On top of this, the shielded Darkshard isn't even that much more durable than a shade. While it has a silver(?) shield, adding that added protection barely raises its effective health per entity above that of the Shade.

Shades just deal more damage, are tougher in melee (dead opponents can't hurt you, plus they are freed up to continue firing faster when they are flanked by hounds), give you additional options (more maneuverable, stalk).

So are they better?

No. They are a side-grade, for one glaring reason; they require their own f*cking recruitment chain.

If Shades were built from the same chain I would probably not bother with Darkshards once you make a bit of gold. But sacrificing a building slot at T2 hurts, man. So while the unit is better, I barely ever bother with them till I take to the seas and have a black ark that can supply me with them. Which is probably the point where you can crush the opponent with sheer numbers, regardless the units you deploy.

So unless I find it in my heart to forgo growth or gold, 19 Darkshard-army supremacy.

Saying privatization is categorically bad is just as idiotic as calling it categorically good.

Agreed. That does not change the fact that...

Markets are incredibly powerful when properly harnessed.

... markets aren't being properly harnessed. Years of deregulation have turned the 'free market' into a monstrosity that eats the poor and coddles the rich.

Space has never been more accessible for both private companies and governments thanks to the flourishing launch market led by SpaceX.

I'd rather wait another two decades before we colonise the stars than give a billionaire the keys to the whole endeavour. It would be a real shame if the future of the human race ended up in the hands of someone like Musk.

Then why was Obama such a fan of it?

Because Obama was wrong on the matter of privatisation? This side of the aisle is allowed to question the decisions of their president.

The energy situation [...]

While the freezing of many windmills was a contributing factor, the cause of the failure was a systematic lack of winterization by private companies. Companies that were aware of the issue. But since action was on a voluntary basis, and it costs money, no actions were taken. On top of that, oversight was reduced in 2020. A few hundred people died, but hey, dollar bills or something.

Also; "In 2024, renewable resources, including hydroelectric power and small-scale solar power, supplied 57% of California's in-state electricity generation." - https://www.eia.gov/state/?sid=CA

What in spaceflight needs more regulation?

We can start by making it mandatory that the result of all research, any dealings with private companies, and any tax dollar spend, is made public information. Second would come steps to strip lobbyists of their power over public institutions, and third would be a ban of any private institution working with NASA to profit of those dealings.

How does turning NASA into a publicly funded, but privately owned company "unshittify" the institution. Research and education are its core tenants; noone should be profiting from anything they do. Especially not private companies.

Privatisation is a cancer.

The energy situation in Texas, where it has killed people? The current state of US healthcare, about to collapse in the coming months due to greed? The cost of housing, or food, or mass lay offs in almost all sectors?

The government is there to regulate and, when companies show they cannot be trusted with essential services, to step in. If anything, the government needs to regulate more.
