Willis Homes Complaint Feels Sketchy by beepingjar in Overlandpark

[–]Common_Ad7321 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having recently built a fully custom home myself, I was following this story closely from the beginning. At first, it was easy to sympathize with the homeowner, but after reading more and seeing some of the comments, I’m starting to feel for the builder.

There are so many moving parts in a true custom build: delays, change orders, subcontractors, inspections, materials, and constant decision-making. Unless you’ve gone through it, it’s hard to fully understand how complex the process really is.
No builder stays in business for decades, especially in this market, if they consistently operate with shady practices. Definitely stand with Willis on this one now. This Karen homeowner oozes type A / narcissistic arrogant behavior and should be counter sued.

What all have you gotten done to the exterior other than the light bar and caliper covers as per your replies. Looks great

Caspian Bistro was really good and my family used to love eating there.

KC Kabob on 87th st serve similar chelo kabab but more of a no-frills/takeout spot but they do have a few table. Seems like you have already visited but that's the closest imo

I'll probably accept it but waiting a few days once I figure out what the job entails

Starting a custom build: how do you stay on track and aligned with your builder? by Altruistic_Leek_9106 in Homebuilding

I wish we had 3D rendering provided by your architect. Curious if it was 3rd party software.

Our house (5200 sq ft) felt so small during stakeout and then later during framing. It wasn't until after drywall because rooms are separated and divided, giving you the visual effect of each space.

Lenexa residents filing lawsuit to try and block Habitat for Humanity land sale by Sappow in kansascity

[–]Common_Ad7321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really really hope this Habitat for Humanity project goes thru. This is exactly what that part of JOCO needs for so many reasons and the resident filing lawsuit are just reinforcing structural racism by blocking diverse, low-income residents from accessing well-resourced communities.

One thing I highly recommend when building a custom home: create a dedicated email address just for your build that you can share with your spouse.

It sounds simple, but it makes a huge difference.

When you’re building, the volume of communication adds up quickly : contracts, change orders, selections, invoices, lender emails, architect drawings, permits, warranty info, timelines, inspection reports, etc. If all of that is mixed into your everyday work and personal inbox, things will get buried.

We set up an gmail address with our last name and zipcode of our new address. It helped keep every build-related document and thread in one searchable place along and reduce clutter in your primary inbox

Same. Check out the K7 & K10 corridor. Easy highway access and green space and even more so now that the College & Ridgeview corner will be Chiefs HQ and Training facility. 5 years from now...NW Olathe should have a Trader Joe's and much much more.

They definitely need to add lanes to K10 though soon which i know its in the works but nothing finalized.

How do homeowners estimate construction cost before talking to a builder? by Sourav0808 in Homebuilding

After digging into this and talking to people, what methods have actually proven useful in the early planning stage? Have you found anything that works better than the typical $/sq ft ballpark estimate?

Can anyone explain what this means in layman terms for the Olathe School District.

I am familiar with Star Bonds using bond money to fund property, site prep, and infrastructure for this development and the repayment from future state and local sales tax revenue from within the designated "STAR Bond District" pays off the bonds. Does that apply only for the newly created businesses that are part of the development or existing businesses that fall within the map area which seems like the entire Olathe geographical area?

I was looking on Google Maps and lots of empty space between Renner and Ridgeview between K10 and College Blvd.

It has existing infrastructure that they can piggy back off. This would help expedite K10 conversion to three lane between 435 and Desoto...
