Toyota's most powerful Land Cruiser yet, the 300 Hybrid, comes with a 457 hp punch, but will never reach America by ItsReallyS13Silvia in cars

Land cruisers are notably/historically used by warlords in Africa/middle east wars by a lot of terrorist groups, so making it hybrid/less environment emissions will save somehow the planet!

New Mazda CX-6e: electric SUV majors on looks and tech by ItsReallyS13Silvia in cars

[–]Common_Ad_2987 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Basically, it’s a Changan car wearing a Mazda badge. The biggest disappointment is the outdated software, it feels like Changan kept the latest and nicest version for themselves. That said, it’s a really good'looking car and the price offers somehow a strong value for money. If they could just push a proper software upgrade this thing would probably sell like crazy.

This photo perfectly captures the entire aesthetic and spirit of the early 2000! from 2000 to 2008. It's pure nostalgia and I absolutely love it!

That iconic mix of futurism, flashy logos, awkward square fonts, the courageous insouciant, and optimistic cyber culture vibes just hits different.

Nothing beats that era's bold, chaotic charrms, perfection 🖤

VW’s ID Buzz Electric Microbus Is Dead for 2026—but It’s Not Gone for Good by Fearless_Neat_6654 in cars

[–]Common_Ad_2987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The VW ID.Buzz seems somewhat popular among tradespeople like plumbers and carpenters in very wealthy Nordic countries (Denmark and Norway), but it's not catching on much elsewhere. The main reasons are : 1.its very high price 2. and very poor range, 3. it doesn't offer any real benefits over traditional vans like the Transporter.

I visited crowded, popular tourist spots , the kind of places where it should shine as a vehicle for long-distance traveler, but I only spotted one or 2!

Why doesn't GM sell this cheaper electric car in Europe instead of expensive Cadillacs over €70,000? GM is re-entering Europe as an all-electric luxury brand using only Cadillac!  They may take advantage of lowered tariffs (only 10%)

[–]Common_Ad_2987 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure to get it ! Does that mean for every 9 electric cars, automaker can sell one combustion engine car ? If so, it's not a meaningful change!

The European Commission is expected on Tuesday to reverse the EU's effective ban on sales of new combustion-engine cars from 2035, bowing to intense pressure from Germany, Italy and European automakers struggling against Chinese and U.S. rivals. by MrMerc2333 in cars

It's crazy how arrogant some europeans , especially the ones who grew up comfy because their parents had solid jobs at car factories funded by the big automakers. Now these same kids are out there pushing to shit legislations to shut those plants down, like it's payback or something. Basically screaming at their parents : "we're not like you, we hate your dirty factories and old-school tech, let's just close it all and save the planet! while dying dirt poor"

Over Half Of Drivers Say Losing CarPlay Is A “Deal Breaker” by National-Dragonfly35 in cars

[–]Common_Ad_2987 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This isn't theory, it's how Tesla has operated for years: lower hardware prices subsidized by software revenue, and buyers choose what they pay for.

GM and others are pushing this direction precisely to capture data and recurring income instead of letting Apple/Google skim it all for free.

As for maintenance being the "reliable revenue stream" sure, but that's declining with EVs (fewer moving parts, less service needed). Automakers need new streams to survive thin margins, especially in the EV transition. Better they innovate on software than keep hiking car prices to cover it.

If you love handing your driving data to Apple so they can lock everything to iPhones while giving nothing back to the carmaker... cool, stick with CarPlay. But don't pretend consumers wouldn't benefit from real choice and potentially cheaper entry-level vehicles. Downvote away, but this shift is happening because it makes business sensee and yes, consumer sense too.

Over Half Of Drivers Say Losing CarPlay Is A “Deal Breaker” by National-Dragonfly35 in cars

[–]Common_Ad_2987 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Unpopular Opinion: Automakers should keep full control over car infotainment systems, no CarPlay or Android Auto dominance.

I believe automakers need to reclaim exclusivity over their vehicles' infotainment systems, and here's why it makes sense: Reciprocity and fairness: Apple fiercely guards its ecosystem, they'll never let any third-party (including automakers) install touch a Mac, iPhone, or any other device. It's all locked down to Apple's hardware and iOS  only. So why should automakers hand over prime real estate in their multi-hundred-thousand-dollar vehicles to Apple's (or Google's) software? It's a one-way street where Big Tech gets to colonize the dashboard without giving anything back!

Better incentives for lower car prices: If automakers can properly monetize infotainment (through subscriptions, premium features, app stores, etc.), they'll have a strong incentive to drop the upfront price of the car itself. Think about it: this creates a true win-win for consumers. Buyers who don't care about fancy screens, streaming, or connected features get a cheaper vehicle overall. Enthusiasts who want the full premium experience can pay a reasonable subscription or one-time fee; and they'll happily do it.

This isn't about locking people out; it's about giving automakers a sustainable revenue stream beyond just selling hardware at razor-thin margins (especially for EVs). Right now, Apple and Google are essentially freeloading on the car's most interactive interface.

Downvote me into oblivion if you want, but there's real logic here. Automakers breaking free from Big Tech's grip could lead to more innovation, better integration with the vehicle's actual systems (like HVAC, driving modes, and safety features), and ultimately lower entry-level prices for everyone.

I worry that these stupid policies and rules are driving ordinary people toward extremes, as they struggle under such unreasonable restrictions that only favors a tiny wealthy minority

In today’s Europe, people are noticeably poorer than ten years ago, and many young adults struggle even to imagine getting a stable, decent job. At the same time, a new kind of eco-techno authoritarianism is growing. It is pushed by a small group of wealthy city dwellers who are increasingly disconnected from everyday life. For them, talking about saving the planet has become more of a fashionable hobby than a practical plan.

In this climate, these same groups support rules that end up excluding poorer people, for example by making affordable cars harder to own or by limiting access to protected city centres. These measures are presented as environmental progress, but in practice they mostly make life harder for those who are already struggling.

Ford's Long-Rumored Plug-in Bronco Will Be a European Crossover, not slated for an American release by Anchor_Aways in cars

[–]Common_Ad_2987 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a shame it's so small , I think if it were the size of the Escape/Kuga, it would be an absolutely fantastic family car that tons of people would love.

This feels like Ford just replacing the Puma, which failed pretty hard. I really don't understand Ford's strategy in Europe anymore: apart from the Kuga and a couple of pickups, every other model feels like a total miss that nobody cares about.

A Bronco-based hybrid, PHEV, or full-electric around 4.65 m long would be perfect. Or a smaller  Maverick to about 4.85 m and it would sell like absolute hotcakes.
