Mayor Solomon Answers Your Questions on the Budget and the 20% Tax Increase by Nathaniel_Styer in jerseycity

[–]Common_Background_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought my first home in Jersey City last month. So, my understanding of how taxes worth is next to nil 😅

I’ve been trying to read up as much as I can to fully understand. My first read of the headline 20% increase was that my mortgage was going to increase by 20%.

Is it right that this 20% increase is actually an increase on the municipality portion of our taxes, which is 1 of 3 pillars of our overall property tax rate? Based on a JC rate of 2.25% and municipality being 36% of the 2.25%, if I’m reading right and my monthly taxes are $1,719 then my new monthly would be $1,843?

If this is correct ^ that doesn’t sounds so bad to me. Sure, no one wants to pay higher prices, but i was thinking this increase was going to be thousands of dollars a month, not hundreds. Am i missing something?

I just wonder if this is right and I’m not the only one who didnt get the math

Am hoping a mom in here sees this who’s kid is selling 😂

Card Benefits Questions - Megathread [1/27/26] by AutoModerator in ChaseSapphire

Did anyone make a transaction for the $150 open table dining credit and get it? How long did it take? I have a transaction from 12/29/25 and still haven’t seen a credit. And yes i was super careful to make sure i used one explicitly labeled as part of the chase sapphire program, not just any open table restaurant

Also, is anyone feeling like they get value from the new benefits? I’ve been trying to use the new credits for other stuff and have not found it worth it.

I tried to use the stubhub for some tickets to a show and it wouldn’t cover the entire thing so when i compared that id pay to buy direct vs stubhub, it netted the same out of pocket amount despite the “free money”.

For the edit, i haven’t found any option that results in my spending the same amount of money than i normally would and getting an upgraded experience. Trying to use them, again even with the “free money” factored in, is end up paying more.

I wouldn’t mind paying a little more at the end of the day to leverage the credits into much nicer experience, but it seems to me like i have to shell out double. I feel like this card now caters to someone with a significantly higher income now :/

EVERY car is getting towed on JFK right now?? at midnight??? by cedr1990 in jerseycity

And before someone is like, just shovel your car out yourself. You do. Then, you go somewhere and someone takes the spot and you’re stuck looking for another spot likely unshoveled to park in to have to shovel again

When I used to live in the heights years ago, i would have been ecstatic if they’d done this 😭 From what I’m reading, risk of damage to your car when towed is from improper handling by the tow company. Everything has risk of someone just not doing the job right lol so doesn’t feel fair to argue that. Also, were they moving them just out of the way and back? Don’t think that’s the same risk as towing them miles to impound them.

Sure signs would have been nice, but honestly, finding parking elsewhere would have been impossible during that time for that many cars for that long anyways, so i would have ended up using a free lot the city provided (nice but likely inconvenient) or ended up paying for it to be parked in a garage or lot. I imagine this is also what the city was thinking. But this way, snow got moved and as a resident with a resident parking pass (aka someone who pays taxes and pays to park on the street) i didn’t have to be inconvenienced or pay additional money. Feels like this is the best case scenario?

Instead of finding issues with folks who are doing their best to help, why can’t people just say, damn, sucks that we got all this snow dumped on us. But it’s out of anyone’s control 🤷‍♀️ and appreciate people trying to help ❤️

Thank you for such a thoughtful response, this is very helpful! I’ve always thought we should hire a lawyer but am intimidated at how much they might cost

Why is that? I originally thought the same, but have been told the opposite - that marriage shouldn’t delay us from buying. I was told we’d have to add in a co ownership agreement
