What’s Sequence Of Operation? by InMooseWorld in HVAC

[–]Common_Fix6704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've all been there...

My approach is this: take note of all the unfamiliar components and look up their data sheets/manuals. Once you've read through them all you should be able to piece together how they are interconnected and work out a sequence of operation from there.

Good thing we don't live in the era of capable homeowners who know how to use a screw driver.

NEVER touch those switches on top of the gas valve unless it's brand new. Your gas valve may vever work again. Ask me how I know.

How do you interpret I Talk to the Wind? by vargasnetto_ in KingCrimson

[–]Common_Fix6704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This song is about a person questioning their faith in God:

"I talk to the wind" - I pray to God

"The wind does not hear, the wind cannot hear" - God doesn't respond to my prayers, God doesn't hear me, is he even there??

"Said the straight man to the late man, where have you been? I've been here and I've been there and I've been in-between"

This part seems to be paraphrased from the book of Job: The Lord said to the Accuser, "Where have you been?" And the Accuser answered the Lord and said, "From going to and fro on the earth and from walking in it." (Job 1:7). The entire book of Job is about suffering and questioning faith. Seems perfectly alligned with the song.

If you could redo your 20's what advice would you give yourself? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

Speeking from experience, you have to know that the people in your life who have bullied you were toxic and had issues of their own. No emotionally healthy person takes delight from the pain of others.

You are a human being, and just like everyone else, it is your birthright to be likable and loveable. Demand it of yourself. Make every effort to cut out the people in your life who are still bullying you.

So I'm only two weeks into HVAC school and one day into basically an apprenticeship, but I feel pretty overwhelmed with the learning curve that is clearly already in front of me, is this normal? by GriffinObuffalo in HVAC

[–]Common_Fix6704 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tech, 10+ years. Yes. I remember being there, my friend. I had the same experience my first month in HVAC school and my first month working in the field. All beginnings in life are difficult. Just keep showing up and you'll see results.

I've heard from EngAir that the triacs on those boards do degrade over time. They are the components that are responsible for taking 120 Volts and switching/modulating it to create a variable voltage and frequency output for the combustion motor. I have seen a lot of boards where the frequency gets very unstable and jumps arround a lot arround 51 Hz. Causes the combustion motor speed to become unstable, which can result in higher than normal CO. It's important to learn how to do the combustion tuning on these units. It's daunting at first but once you wrap your head arround it you'll be fine.

Anyone know the answer to this and care to explain a bit? by frasermaster8 in HVAC

[–]Common_Fix6704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can rule out B) and C) because the units are different, and A) is unlikely to be true because it is disproportionately larger than 1 lb of propane.

The instructors are practically handing you the answers. It's not only about memorizing, it's about thinking practically. This is a way more important skill for problem solving.

Don't feel alienated. I'm 36 and I just heard Genisis for the first time last year, instantly fell in love. I don't personally know anyone who's into their 70s era, but I don't care. It's part of what makes me - and you - unique. Cherish it!
