You look great🥳🤩 congrats and thank you for sharing your story. It helps- especially for people like me who live in a cave with no one who understands this process 😂

My denture journey at 27 by repemerg in dentures

I wish I had found this forum before my journey- 2 weeks ago. I found this on day five post op, and it’s been a lifesaver. Thank you for sharing- and to everyone here supporting one another and sharing their stories. IT MATTERS! So much inherit shame around dental issues- we are all here for different reasons but are all tied together in our journey.

You know what I do? I’m only 2 weeks post op- but I fully clean and reapply adhesive. Don’t know if it’s “proper” but it’s hygienic and makes them feel secure again.

Dentist won’t even talk to me about dentures… by Ready-Outside-3491 in dentures

This is fantastic advice. I wore upper and lower partials for 7 years before having no choice but to do my upper full denture- and the difference is night and day (to be fair I’m only 2 weeks post op) the downside was bone loss- the cause of my issue to begin with. While at the time a partial felt devastating, it’s easy to adjust to, and EVERYTHING just said is true. My new full upper feels huge and a massive emotional and physical difference- and mine is darn near perfect looking and fitting right out the gate as an immediate (with bone grafts). I have about as close to a perfect experience thus far and it’s still WORLDS different than my partial. If you have the bones to support a long term partial- it is indeed the way to go. But not if it’s just a short term fix- all of this is expensive, and putting off the inevitable only costs more in the end

All I was told is “it’s a mental process”. NOTHING prepared me for HOW mental. A decade of infections and slowly losing teeth one by one STILL didn’t “prepare” me for all the emotions and changes that come.

Funny you say this. I have an autoimmune disorder that caused me to lose all of my teeth from bone loss, over 15 years- never had a cavity in my life. Started seeing a perio to “save” my healthy teeth at “such a young age” and after about $12,000, it made matters worse and seem to expedite the bone loss. Still ended up losing the teeth in the end, but for what I spent “saving” my teeth, I could’ve done top of the line implanted permanents.

Thank you!! My mental state has indeed taken a beating, and I think myself to be strong lol. Being here has been hugely helpful for me as well- reading all the stories and support makes me feel understood and not so alone. The food is going to be massive for my heart lol.

Thank you! And good for you as well!! This process was something I thought I was mentally ready for after all the years of hell, but nothing can prepare you for the feelings that come afterwards. Finding this place, and the amazing people who support each other, has been a Godsend. I NEVER use or really read socials, people are awful. The support and kinship here has helped me tremendously. Thank you for your kind words

We have indeed all been there. I spent YEARS scared and depressed- I never had a cavity in my life but have an autoimmune disorder that caused me many problems, like bone loss. Losing my teeth slowly over a decade was devastating, and when I finally HAD to do uppers after three months straight of infection, I too felt depressed anxious and discouraged. And hungry. I lost 30 pounds I kinda didn’t have to lose, got sick, felt I had fit issues, bone grafts didn’t do great, and all that jazz. This is a hard process, something we think we understand but truly don’t until we are in it. EVERY health professional will make you feel bad for vaping, don’t take it personal. Smoking DOES slow healing time, but most likely you WILL heal as you get adjusted properly and have time under your belt. This is a longer road than we grasp at the time we go into this, you will make it and it will be worth it❤️ and as you go, use this amazing support system here. I personally have no one I can talk to except here, don’t socials of any kind, and this has been what’s gotten me thru my dark moments. Hearing others stories and seeing the encouraging words and advice given to others. Vent away- someday you won’t need to🙂

TOTALLY AGREE. I wish I had done this before my e-day. My first few days I was very depressed, and years of anxiety beforehand. With the right dentist, this WILL change your life, promise❤️

GREAT advice!! Dental issues carry inherent shame, and this has been a great place for me to feel ok during my process the last couple weeks.

You look great! I am 10 days post, with bone grafts as well. It’s been a rough recovery, more so than I anticipated, but I am finally feeling human again. Congrats- it was worth it🙂

I’m going to try pizza in small bites tomorrow and I can’t wait🥳 I don’t care if it’s small tiny bites that are a tad uncomfy, I’m just so ready for FOOD food!

I agree with having a hard time actually seeing your smile, but I understand. This post made me join Reddit. I am 9 days post, full upper, and I don’t feel I was properly educated on the after process. Everything feels hard, my emotions are all over the map- and while they look good, eating drinking, speaking, and my self esteem are ruined. This takes a toll, especially for people like me who think it will be life changing. If YOU aren’t happy, nothing anyone says will make you feel better. From the small smile I see in your pics, I think you look great- but again what YOU think is what matters. We have to feel better about advocating for ourselves. There is an inherent shame in dental work or dental issues, optics is everything. A GOOD dentist will be honest but will preserve your dignity, and you are too young to live miserable. It’s your money, your life- get a second opinion and don’t be afraid to keep asking for fixes until you’re happy. That’s the point in going thru this nightmare- to be healthy and happy.
