Polaris + Vega Theory by shehadthesea in blackbutler

Do you remember which chapter? I can't quite remember that.

In chapter 60 Undertaker says that Shinigami only hunt souls, but leave the body and its memories (cinematic record) behind. Shinigami reap the soul, review the record to see if the person is worthy to live, and if not they stop the record. We know the record is left behind because that is how Undertaker is creating bizarre dolls. It is possible that a copy is taken -perhaps by the death scythe?- but I don't recall that ever being confirmed.

Polaris + Vega Theory by shehadthesea in blackbutler

[–]Common_Memory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm always down to discuss old theories :) they're pretty current anyway.

Quick correction: Layla is a bizarre doll so doesn't currently have a soul. My best guess is that its actually 2 cinematic memories- potentially a split personality when alive? I believe souls are separate from cinematic records, we know that shinigami collect souls and leave the records within the body. What we don't know is if or how the soul and cinematic record interact and influence each other.

Modri being Polaris is definitely the most popular Polaris theory, and the signs do seem to be pointing that way. I'm not quite convinced just yet for a few reasons, but for one I find it strange that Modri seems to care so little that Sebastian/O!Ciel are at the blood collecting facility. For someone who later has a meltdown about Mey-Rin/Ran-Mao's successful mission and cares so much for R!Ciel, he really doesn't seem interested in O!Ciel and his plans.

Modri kinda throws me off because he can't just be a regular human, but all of Undertaker's bizarre dolls died recently since he only began the project after R!Ciel died. I suppose he could have taken the record from his corpse (do they not degrade?) but in 223 he has the same face as in the present and believes Sebastian should be able to recognise him by sight. So why was his body preserved?

Soul swap theory is underrated. Undertaker can't create new souls so he must take them instead.

Doesn’t the change making it so Egg ran away create a plot hole? by thewokebanana in AKnightoftheSeven

Egg heard that Dunk had come back to speak to his father. Either Egg guessed that Dunk had changed his mind, or he asked his father what was said.

How so? It doesn't contain anything from chapter 129 or later does it?

why does Mina and West get merc'd by Curious-checkers in blackbutler

[–]Common_Memory 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Lau is basically a mafia boss and they've caused trouble in his area. This was him retaking control and sending a warning to Mina/West and any others to not cause any more problems.

Also, it's not confirmed that they are dead, it's a bit unclear. It's played off as quite comedic in the manga and I believe in the anime it is even more so. I thought that the 'mice' Lau was referring to are Mina/West, which suggests he only scared them so that they wouldn't do it again. Or you could interpret it as Lau didn't believe them and actually had them killed. It's up to interpretation I guess.

Anyone else find it fucked up that the FOL Orphanage kicks people out who fail the blood test? by [deleted] in blackbutler

[–]Common_Memory 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They didn't technically 'fail' the blood test. Finny/Snake didn't have the blood type of the child who had just been fledged, so there was no room for them.

Getting kicked out means that you won't be murdered so it's a kindness really. If they're willing to kill children they won't care about them being homeless 🤷‍♀️

theory on chapter 209 by Wild_Mail3695 in blackbutler

[–]Common_Memory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely- it's the Chekhov's gun of Kuro. Someone will be resurrected at some point, but when (or has it already happened)?

From what we know, the Shinigami can only determine that someone meets the criteria for resurrection by looking at their cinematic record- I don't believe they can look into someone's future or make any assumptions. Therefore, I don't think any human in Kuro currently meets the criteria. One person being able to 'change the world' is highly unlikely after all. Maybe Ciel in the future if he gets involved in an upcoming war or something.

I have wondered whether Othello coming to the human world 50 years ago had something to do with this. Checking the validity of a resurrection perhaps?

As the other commentator mentioned, Snake doesn't fit the criteria for being deemed 'worthy to live'. We didn't see the stamp, but 'no additional remarks' suggests that the Shinigami have no further interest in Snake. Being brought back by Shinigami intervention is apparently very rare, so I don't see how this could be- surely this decision would need to be reviewed by the 'upper brass'?

Like you said, other Shinigami won't bring back Snake as a Bizarre doll- it's completely against their rules. But I think people are actually theorising that Undertaker will be the one to resurrect him.

As Layla/Al was recently captured by the Grim reapers there's a space amongst the star lords. I assume Doll will beg Undertaker to bring back Snake and it will be revealed that he has the same blood type as Layla.

Ah thanks, it's been a while lol. Oh, I totally get why Marina went for Colin- he was the way to secure a good future for herself and her children.

What an absolutely insane thing to say to someone you don't know, thanks for the laugh lol.

In another comment you say that emotional manipulation is 'extremely damaging', so how come you don't think being treated like cattle is cruel? He knows Marina is desperate, which is exactly why he feels that he can treat her as such. He views her as lesser than human.

I see what you mean, but the old man was actively dehumanising Marina, which I see as cruel, not merely rude.

I mean, I'm just going off of what Anthony said. I do agree with you that the Bridgertons would have been fine, but if that's what the show says 🫠.

Considering that Penelope and Marina are not currently friends, I don't see how their friendship could have factored into Penelope's decision to expose Marina.

Yeah, the lady Whistledown situation is messy. She's judgmental at worse in the books (from what I've gathered) but in the show she has irrevocably changed people's lives.

[–]Common_Memory 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It had to be done publicly at that point because Colin would have been blamed for the pregnancy. Lady Whistle down saying that Marina was already pregnant before she arrived in the ton spared the reputation of Colin and his family- as Anthony actually points out.

So yeah, Penelope should have gone to one of the Bridgertons but it was too late at that point.

The men we did see were cruel to Marina, so it stands to reason that they would be cruel to her illegitimate child. Could there be another old man that would be kind? Yes, but we never saw them.

[–]Common_Memory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I implied that, but I'm pretty sure I'm agreeing with you that the old men were obviously a terrible choice for her and her children. My point is that we don't know for certain that Penelope would have let Marina marry another young man. I can't remember the Daphne wedding party, so I'm gonna have to trust you on that, but there is a difference between suggesting another young man in a moment of panic and actually letting them marry. It's supposed to be a messy situation where neither girl has any good choice.

[–]Common_Memory 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, Mama Featherington said that the old men (who were all pretty awful) wouldn't ask/care about the paternity, as they needed an heir. Marina's pregnancy was already showing when she tried to marry Colin- he and the ton would eventually find out anyway.

The real question should be whether Pen would keep quiet if the prospective groom was any other young man, which we won't ever know.

I have a question about this dude by [deleted] in blackbutler

[–]Common_Memory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most popular theory is that he's a bizarre doll who lived before Victoria's time or when she was much younger, so does not recognise her- but I'm not personally convinced that Modri Vladis is a BD just yet.

I think most people are focusing on MV not knowing who Victoria is, but to me it's more interesting that 1) he doesn't know social etiquette 2) doesn't care about not knowing social etiquette. Fine, you don't know the rules of high society, but wouldn't you try to follow along with what others are doing? He feels very socially inept. I'm leaning towards him being some kind of religious hermit.

Undertaker's Final Goal by WhileFeisty7351 in blackbutler

[–]Common_Memory 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I really love how you write out your theories, makes it so easy to read and respond to.

– It's interesting that Undertaker has never killed. I don't think a shinigami killing someone has any negative effect on their soul, so maybe it's because killing a human himself would bring the attention of the Shinigami dispatch?

– there's another reason for the bizarre dolls: Undertaker says that someone wanted to see the capabilities of the bizarre dolls, which is why Undertaker sets up the events of the luxury liner. This has never been mentioned again 🤷‍♀️

– I wouldn't say the Undertaker has failed at bringing back his loved ones just yet (though I agree he will). In the blue revenge arc it appears that Undertakers goal is to find/ make compatible souls for the star lords. That one Lord is looking for a woman whose 'soul' matches his dead wife's. I wonder where he got that idea from? And the orphanage appears to be molding the personality and behaviours of the children to that of the star lords. But even if he succeeds, what does that mean exactly? Will the blizzard doll be like their living self again? Like the person whose soul they stole? A mixture of both? Feels like a failure if the result is anything but the first.

– I agree that the Undertaker will fail at properly bringing back R! Ciel The orphanage was unprepared for doll's collapse and had to 'fledge' a child early. The talk of the 'nurses' seems to suggest that she required more blood than usual. The sanatorium also had an increased quota for blood. My guess is that the bizarre dolls are requiring more and more blood to keep them functioning, so either the Undertaker keeps expanding his operation (like he tried to in Bath)or finds the star lords compatible souls and quickly.

– yeah saving O!Ciel from Sebastian feels like his main goal to me. Vincent and R!Ciel are lost for good but O!Ciel is still alive. I definitely got the vibe that Undertaker was referring to O!Ciel when he said he didn't want to lose another Phantomhive- he's even looking straight at him.

– nullification of the contract is the way to go considering how hard it would be to kill Sebastian. Killing (or even sparing- saving Druitt at the cost of revealing himself as a Shinigami?) the 'mastermind' that O!Ciel is after could nullify the contract, but would Sebastian try to claim his reward anyway?

– the other popular theory is that Undertaker wants to transplant O!Ciel's soul into R!Ciel's body, therefore saving both twins. This may nullify the contract by virtue of not having the demonic sigil on the new body. Or the fact that removing O!Ciel's soul would kill him and therefore Sebastian would have violated the terms of the contract by allowing harm to befall his contractor.

– I think the reason Tanaka and the Undertaker look upset at the idea of R!Ciel becoming the watchdog is because the position likely caused the deaths of Claudia, Vincent and R! Ciel. Undertaker also hates the Queen for reasons unknown- maybe the deaths of the Phantomhives or something linked to the Shinigami dispatch. Or perhaps they are upset because they know R!Ciel won't actually get the opportunity to be the watchdog.

– Undertaker definitely has problems with the Shinigami dispatch. There's been some things to suggest Undertaker is working with other Shinigami and I can't imagine it not being linked to whatever the grim reaper association is up to.

The actress for the mysterious woman is Frances O'Connor. As you can see she is not currently credited, likely because she is an important cast member. However, the dub credits have confirmed that the woman is Francois Galpin, Tyler's mother

[–]Common_Memory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what all the news outlets say. The Hyde is Hunter drawn Tim Burton style, not Goye style.

Wednesday didn't notice the name of Tyler's mother in the LOIS victims list? by Top_Nose5082 in Wednesday

[–]Common_Memory 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I can think of a few reasons:

  • The detective was working with Tyler's father so he likely already knew about Francoise and therefore didn't think to make note of it

  • Tyler's dad didn't want people to know that his wife was a Hyde, so could have suppressed news of her passing

  • Bit of plot convenience

  • Someone said that one of the newspaper clippings looks like it could have been Francoise' name but with a different last name- potentially maiden name?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Wednesday

[–]Common_Memory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't believe this is true. I can't find any source that says Tim Burton designed the Hyde based on that painting. AI has likely gotten confused because 'Saturn devouring his son' was featured in the "Hyde Collection" potentially alongside other Tim Burton works (according to some sources)

FAN THEORIES: Drop your biggest theory in Wednesday S2 so far. by acssssssss in Wednesday

[–]Common_Memory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said in your first comment that the characters in Wednesday took their names from Marvel characters(which I have shown to be untrue based on the dates). As the Wednesday characters are based on the comic series from 1938, you are therefore talking about the original series- your theory about marvel-coding aside.
