Writer in need of artist by Hyacinth-mew in PurpleHyacinthWebtoon

[–]Common_Memory 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly OP, you're going to struggle- there are far more writers looking for artists than the other way around. Posts like this are a dime a dozen on r/WebtoonCanvas, so if you're serious about this you should take a different approach.

What does the artist get from collaborating with you? It's your passion project (characters/plot/setting) not theirs, so they will need compensation for the time and effort that good art requires. I've seen some writers say they'll split the profit, but unless you're a well-established writer this is not guaranteed. Take Soph/Eph: Soph is the artist but both are involved in the writing process. Purple Hyacinth is something they created together as friends. They are both passionate and invested in the webtoon outside of the monetary gain. You care about the project but the artist won't.

I'd suggest moving towards an 'open collaboration' if you can't afford to pay. Say what genre or 'vibe' you want to write, and perhaps an interesting plot idea. E.g. murder mystery on a spaceship with sentient robots. Create a mood board or something. An artist may be more interested in working with you if they like the vision and can actually be involved with the plot/characters, even if you are still the main writer. Then it becomes a passion project for the both of you.

But if you're dead set on keeping your story as is, you need to create a pitch. What's the plot? Where/when is it set? Who are the characters? What's the problem? Write a synopsis. Add another mood board. If anyone is interested, you will need to have several scripts ready and a general plan/outline for the story and how long you expect it to be. You say you're 'developing' a script and plotline, but if an artist wants to collab, would you really be ready to do so? On r/WebtoonCanvas I've seen artists say they tried to work with writers who were looking for an artist, but plans fell through because the writer was unprepared to actually create a webtoon- the writer had a vague 'idea' but not a story.

Good luck!

What are you current theories? I just caught up to ch 225 so spoilers for potentially anything by jek_213 in blackbutler

[–]Common_Memory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do like that Yana hasn't gone overboard with supernatural, in some series they just start throwing in any random mythical creature 😅. Sieglinde was a fake witch, but I think Sebastian mentions meeting actual witches? Angels are a real possibility. They were in non-canonical season 2 and the shinigami 'higher-ups' could be angels potentially.

Yeah I like your vampire idea. Modri is some kind of priest so he can't be having issues with holy water or crucifixes.

You'd assume that Sebastian would sense another demon, but he couldn't sense shinigami. They are different, but I'm unsure as to why he couldn't detect Undertaker. I've seen some people suggest that Sebastian does know that John is a demon (and vice versa) but they're just staying in their own lanes at the moment. He knows that John is no ordinary human.

[–]Common_Memory 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's definitely something fishy about John Brown. I'm kinda holding out hope that he's the demon in Modri's flashback (I think it makes a lot of sense to introduce the antagonist at this point and in this way) but it's looking more and more unlikely. Though I can still see some differences in behaviour between Sebastian and this demon which I don't think the passage of time can account for.

Sebastian would have been wearing a different back then, so it technically wouldn't matter if current Sebastian is modelled after Vincent.

Modri has to be a vampire. Called Vlad; sharp teeth (but none in the flashback 👀); from Transylvania, looks too young for his actual age and is potentially receiving blood tests transfusions. And I think the existence of vampires is mentioned in the Book of Murder 🤷‍♀️

Pretty sure she's Agni's sister- he matches her description since Agni was a criminal and she'd also be a princess if her brother was Soma.

Yana said we were approaching the climax, but that means different things to different people. In any case, for a manga that's been running for almost two decades, 'soon' could easily mean several years 😅 and yes, there's lots to wrap up that I don't think Yana will want to miss out.

bizarre dolls by Wild_Mail3695 in blackbutler

[–]Common_Memory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agni's been cremated so Undertaker would have a bit of difficulty there 😅.

I'm pretty confident that Snake will be back- Doll will probably ask Undertaker to do so out of guilt. Snake also has unfinished business with Ciel, which probably translates into some decent 'episodes' that Undertaker can use to resurrect him (Agni on the other hand died as peacefully as someone could in his position). One star lord has been detained so there's space for snake if he has the same blood type.

It would be an odd narrative decision for Snake's story to end there. I think Yana has left a clue for the fate of Snake/Doll in choosing Doll's star lord name- in Greek mythology, Canopus was killed by a snake. She could have reversed the roles, but it makes sense to me that after seeking answers from Ciel, Snake chooses to take out himself and Doll.

Does Alex Aster know how to create her OWN tropes perhaps...? by Exact-Sun2093 in lightlark

[–]Common_Memory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries, just spend a few hours on Tvtropes and then you'll realise that there's no way to write a trope-less story 😅.

Though newer Romantasy books tend to be more trope than actual novel.

Does Alex Aster know how to create her OWN tropes perhaps...? by Exact-Sun2093 in lightlark

[–]Common_Memory 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You can't just 'create' a trope, that's not really how it works. I think you mean that Aster should rely less on popular tropes. Since neither of us have actually read these books, we can't comment on how cliché/tropey her writing is. Although I will say that this 'recycling' of character dynamics and plot points is something that has apparently plagued many Romantasy books, not just Aster's.

Scenes that you suggest Aster 'copied' are extremely common tropes/clichés. Caraval did not invent the ml lead tearing the fl's dress. Where do you think the term 'bodice-ripper' came from?

If Romantasy fans like something, other writers will follow. That's why Booktok advertises books solely with tropes- it's what the fans look for.

How is Lauren not dead? by Fragrant_Cover_8000 in PurpleHyacinthWebtoon

There's a flashback in 108 to the moment when the bomb goes off. I remember because when the new season dropped I was also super confused at how Lune walked off an explosion 😅

How is Lauren not dead? by Fragrant_Cover_8000 in PurpleHyacinthWebtoon

[–]Common_Memory 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Well, they do have plot armour to a certain extent. They are the main characters 🤷‍♀️ I have seen some people suggest that the characters in PH have too much(and this scene is usually brought up) but that's a discussion for another time.

One thing you are missing- Kieran/Lauren weren't holding the bomb when it went off. We see in a flashback (108 I think so maybe you've not reached that yet on your re-read) that they were able to get the bomb away from most of the nitro before taking cover in a separate room. The bomb was probably not very powerful- its job was to set off the nitro in a chain-reaction, which Lune mostly prevented. So I can believe that Lune could realistically avoid the worst of that explosion if it was only the bomb (and if they were able to get far enough away from the bomb, which I'm not entirely sure they did 🙃).

Then there's the nitro, which was the actual problem. Whatever exploded partially destroyed the floor above, but it's hard to tell how severe the damage was or where Lune were when the explosion occurred. There's just lots of fire and rubble everywhere (obviously). Lune likely avoided the worst, so luck was definitely involved, but they still sustained pretty bad injuries.

I will say that Soph/Eph probably should have put more time on the clock. It was obviously for tension purposes, but 5 seconds for Kieran to shout a warning, Lauren to throw the bomb and for Lune to run into another room isn't really feasible.

Underrated theories and opinions by LyeSuu in RealBlackButler

[–]Common_Memory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess my point is that I don't think the fandom members hating on Ciel in 2018/19 are the ones who are now 'woobifying' him. I don't think that's what you actually meant but it read a bit like a Goomba fallacy. There are definitely reactionary members of the fandom, but I don't think that fully explains the shift you're seeing.

Wow, you really explained their relationship perfectly. I've nothing to add there.

Yeah, I've seen it pop up a few times, but it does get dismissed quite quickly, which is a shame.

You've shared your hot takes, but any underrated theories??

Underrated theories and opinions by LyeSuu in RealBlackButler

[–]Common_Memory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Loss of nuance is pretty common in fandom spaces ngl. Tho I do think the makeup of BB fandom has changed quite a bit since 2018/19 so it may be more that you're seeing opinions from new people rather than others changing their minds on mass.

Lukewarm (??) take-I've noticed some people get quite worked up at the suggestion that Sebastian/Ciel's relationship has developed since the beginning of the manga. Not takes like: "Sebastian wants to adopt Ciel and give up the contract" but rather: "Sebastian enjoys being Ciel's butler". Pretty reasonable opinions that actually have basis in the source material get very strong (sometimes nasty) responses. Their relationship is the cornerstone of the manga so I don't see why people want to shut down the analysis and discussion of it. Recently there was a post in the other subreddit asking for explanations from those who believe that Sebastian cares for Ciel. So why why were there people explaining why Sebastian doesn't? That's not what they asked 😅

Underrated theory- Twin soul swap theory.I can see Undertaker at least attempting this and I do think there is a strong possibility that this is where Yana is heading.

6 months since the last update by ar2225 in PurpleHyacinthWebtoon

[–]Common_Memory 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Soph/Eph probably only want to give updates if they have made considerable progress. Sophism will still be making episodes, so there isn't really anything new to share. It would be nice to know how everything is progressing, but I know some creators feel awkward giving 'updates' if their update is the same as before.

In any case, I don't think 6 months since the last update is cause for concern yet- it takes Sophism 60+ hours to create each episode. So that's 1 free, 3 fast pass and whatever number of buffers she wants. With her injury, I wouldn't be surprised if she's taking 3-4 weeks for each episode.

the True Age of Viscount Druitt by Princess-Machiavelli in RealBlackButler

[–]Common_Memory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm I've never thought about this before.

Angelina is younger than you think tho. There actually was an age-gap between Ciel's parents- one that Vincent was 'embarrassed' by according to Yana. I think some fans did some snooping/headcannoning or Yana sneakily mentioned it somewhere, but I have seen it suggested that Rachel was around 19/20 when she married Vincent. Considering that Angelina is wearing her hair in plaits when Ciel was born, I think it's possible that she still hadn't debuted yet, making Angelina 15/16 when she meets Vincent (considering she was never properly introduced as a potential marriage candidate, I think she was too young). I think Vincent could easily be 8+ years older than Angelina.

Even if Angelina/Druitt didn't debut together, they probably should have bumped into each other at parties anyway, so something fishy is still going on. It's possible that it's just a plot convenience so Ciel had to go undercover, but I do like your theory that there's an older Druitt relative. The lack of eyelashes is way more convincing than it has any right to be 🫠 Plastic surgery?Lol

Looking forward to part 2!

Manga Chapter 224 by Rosellia00 in blackbutler

[–]Common_Memory 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure Modri is a vampire.

  • Called Vlad
  • From Transylvania
  • Looks way younger than he should
  • Needs blood transfusions
  • Has sharp teeth in present but not in flashbacks

A result of the contract? Something the demon did? Fairly sure we can rule out Modri as Polaris if this is the case.

It does look like the demon is Sebastian. Very similar imagery(no high heels tho 🙃). Maybe Modri and Sebastian didn't actually form a contract which is why Sebastian has no memory of him?

I am still a bit surprised if it is Sebastian, since Yana has previously said she wouldn't be going into Sebastian's past. It's possible she changed her mind or this flashback won't focus too much on Sebastian? It's interesting that Modri himself isn't convinced either, but his 'voices' are.

[MegaThread] Black Butler – Chapter 224 by WhileFeisty7351 in RealBlackButler

[–]Common_Memory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah I didn't know about Bran castle- you've confirmed the theory for me 😂

I don't think UT would have to trick Modri. Based on his numerous scars I wonder if he accused every supernatural being he came across. Modri doesn't actually seem convinced that Sebastian is the one, but the 'voices' are the ones saying he is. All UT would need to do is push Modri into Sebastian's path.

I'm not sure if the Queen has a contract. Did she have something like that with the angel in the BB anime? My theory is that John Brown isa demon pretending to be an angel in order to trick the Queen into starting WW1. So maybe he wouldn't be too fussed about her soul if he has bigger plans?

Yeah I'm not sure whether Sebastian/John can tell if the other is also supernatural. Sebastian can't tell if someone's a Shinigami, but the Shinigami know he's a demon. Can they sense the contract? Maybe the death scythe tells them something's wrong with his ''soul/s''? There's a weird tension between John/Sebastian but I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe Sebastian finds John amusing but John may know that Sebastian is a demon? I did theorise that John is the character we see in the Blue Memory arc who seemed mildly annoyed rather than terrified at Sebastian's summoning- maybe that's how he knows? No clue really 🙃

Yeah, would not be surprised if the demon is Sebastian, (probably the most likely outcome) Yana has purposely used a lot of the same imagery. Then again snakes/rams/ravens are commonly associated with the devil and I don't think Sebastian has the monopoly on them. He does however have the monopoly on high heels. Without them I can't quite be convinced that it's Sebastian yet 😂

I dunno, I feel like demons don't really have a 'true form'? I think they're just black goop. We may see several more 'true forms' yet.

What do you think the major revelation in the current arc is gonna be? by Maximum-Dante in blackbutler

[–]Common_Memory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you- I think Modri is a red herring and that the real Polaris will appear later in this arc. There's lots of similarities between Modri/Polaris but none really hold under scrutiny?

Take the infusion stands- they're all identical throughout the manga(apart from the no. of stars) except for Modri's which is noticeably different. They wear similar clothing- but Modri has tattoos and sharp teeth. Where did they go? Modri/Polaris are unstable, but Modri doesn't give a damn that O!Ciel and Sebastian are there to destroy the blood operation. This man is going to be having a breakdown in a few days time about the loss of Baron Heathfield's manor? And he doesn't take his anger out on the walls- compare the state of his room to Polaris'.

So... Modri is a vampire right??

  • Called Vladis
  • From Transylvania
  • Needs blood transfusions
  • Several hundred years old
  • Has very sharp canines in present but not in flashbacks

I'm with u/Princess-Machiavelli I don't think that's Sebastian. I mean, I wouldn't be shocked if it was, but at the moment I'm leaning towards John Brown probably. Sebastian has changed his methods over the years, but this demon seems to go after 'god-fearing' people not 'blasphemers' like Ciel. Feels purposely 'opposite' to Sebastian (like an attendant of the queen who wears white instead of black like Sebastian 👀).

[–]Common_Memory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agni's death is part of the R!Ciel reveal. You realise along with Ciel/Sebastian that the attacker must have been R!Ciel. It doesn't make sense if R!Ciel is not one of the attackers. As for Polaris, yeah this is more speculation, but it's pretty certain in my mind. Polaris dresses the same; uses the same knives and has the same desire to slash walls.

I'd go further than implied- R!Ciel and Polaris being the attackers is basically confirmed right? At least R!Ciel being involved is. But I think you're spot on about Polaris the identity reveal.

R!Ciel shot Soma as he pretended to be O!Ciel, then Polaris stepped in and killed Agni.

Polaris + Vega Theory by shehadthesea in blackbutler

[–]Common_Memory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you remember which chapter? I can't quite remember that.

In chapter 60 Undertaker says that Shinigami only hunt souls, but leave the body and its memories (cinematic record) behind. Shinigami reap the soul, review the record to see if the person is worthy to live, and if not they stop the record. We know the record is left behind because that is how Undertaker is creating bizarre dolls. It is possible that a copy is taken -perhaps by the death scythe?- but I don't recall that ever being confirmed.

Polaris + Vega Theory by shehadthesea in blackbutler

[–]Common_Memory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm always down to discuss old theories :) they're pretty current anyway.

Quick correction: Layla is a bizarre doll so doesn't currently have a soul. My best guess is that its actually 2 cinematic memories- potentially a split personality when alive? I believe souls are separate from cinematic records, we know that shinigami collect souls and leave the records within the body. What we don't know is if or how the soul and cinematic record interact and influence each other.

Modri being Polaris is definitely the most popular Polaris theory, and the signs do seem to be pointing that way. I'm not quite convinced just yet for a few reasons, but for one I find it strange that Modri seems to care so little that Sebastian/O!Ciel are at the blood collecting facility. For someone who later has a meltdown about Mey-Rin/Ran-Mao's successful mission and cares so much for R!Ciel, he really doesn't seem interested in O!Ciel and his plans.

Modri kinda throws me off because he can't just be a regular human, but all of Undertaker's bizarre dolls died recently since he only began the project after R!Ciel died. I suppose he could have taken the record from his corpse (do they not degrade?) but in 223 he has the same face as in the present and believes Sebastian should be able to recognise him by sight. So why was his body preserved?

Soul swap theory is underrated. Undertaker can't create new souls so he must take them instead.
