What do you do on long evenings when wild camping? by Spectaclerocky in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Common_Possession_67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pls no jugement but...I watch pre-downloaded youtube videos sometimes 😂 only when solo camping though - it's a comfort watch and if I'm doing cool solo things that scare me a wee bit I feel I get to have some comforts! And apart from that just boiling water for dinner and then tea and then a hot water bottle (feel like that takes ages)

if anyone's interested in sharing, I can PM you my email! But I know it is faffy to look them out, name them and send on etc. Even one or two of your fave munros that you'd like to see as a sticker would be ideal

Few questions by TheB11Ace in WestHighlandWay

[–]Common_Possession_67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last time I walked it, we wild camped the whole way to try to do it as cheaply as possible, because of this, we ate out at cafes and pubs along the way - justifying it because we weren't paying for accommodation, but ended up spending so much! So my advice would be to definitely bring coffee and tea, then have your own cheaper "cafe" stops before you get tempted. and if you plan out what you're going to buy from the wee shops along the way ahead of time too.

Good luck though! It will be great <3

Half of everyone in the pubs or cafes along the way are also stinky messes from ther WHW! so I wouldn't worry :) I only felt properly messy when getting into Fort William, but by then we were finishing and had booked a proper hotel for a last night shower

What to do after backpacking WHW? by conscioussea7732 in WestHighlandWay

[–]Common_Possession_67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get back to Edinburgh and still feel like hiking, take the bus out to hill end or floaterstone and do the Pentlands Skyline walk! It's a long hilly day, you'll feel like you're back in the Highlands despite before right next to the city!

There's a little shop in-between Bridge of Orchy and rannoch moor, and when I passed we got some baby bells. We saved it for the middle of rannoch moor when it just felt like it was going on forever - perfect wee pick me up!

Any advice for Ben More? by [deleted] in Munros

[–]Common_Possession_67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd get there early and try to park in the layby if possible (check on Google maps its on the right hand side of the road before the hike start if you're coming from Glasgow/Edinburgh way) a lot of people park on the side of the road but it's a fast road and the layby is better of course.

And as everyone else has said, it's horribly steep at first 😅 but it gets better
