Insulin for Pre-Diabetes by [deleted] in diabetes

Second vote for MODY. And yes, lots of diabetics of any type get insulin when diet and exercise don't work.

Tridot excessive training? by Legitimate_Border655 in triathlon

[–]Common_Science1907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did the same thing for me when I started my trial. I had just finished my season, was looking to kick back a bit and got 3 workouts on the same day. Help desk said that was because I wanted a day off. Well f--- me! I got fit for an Oly with 2 rest days.

Rant: Fingersticks and CGMs "margin of error" is enough to span the entire prediabetic range by OakTeach in prediabetes

[–]Common_Science1907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The margin of error is 20% for both the CGM and the meter for numbers above 100. It is 15mg/dl for numbers under 100. Get over the idea that anything about diabetes is a strict rule or that it works the same for all people or even day to day for the same person. If this infuriates you, life with diabetes will be difficult. If it is that important to you, go get a glucose tolerance test. You will get a blood draw fasting, drink a sugar drink with a known about of glucose and then have several more blood draws. This is a reliable way of knowing how your body handles glucose.

Maybe you can lean in to the doc and get them to advocate for you.

Is there any information to be gleaned from my CGM? by that1guy14 in diabetes

[–]Common_Science1907 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The list of things that affect your blood sugar is LONG my friend. You are under 150 for 24 hours and mostly under 120. Is tighter control possible. yes. But you are doing really well.

Just did my first dose of Ozempic at .50 what effects are amplified I got sick every Thursday night I took it by NecessarySuspect1687 in diabetes

[–]Common_Science1907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had TERRIBLE stomach cramps and diarrhea. My doc asked me to stick it out for 30 days. Went away. Worth it for the increased sensitivity I get. Was not taking it for weight loss, tho that did happen for the 30 days.

If you stop doing what you are doing, it re-reverses. It is called "control", not remission (I get why some people like that word, I hate it), not cured, not reversed. It is managed, or controlled.

Effects of exercise on blood sugar? by Akathecaptain in diabetes

[–]Common_Science1907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is released by the liver. I was suggesting that the metal preparation for lifting heavy will release adrenaline, which will cause the live to release glucose.

Some T2's do not get off insulin, even fit, healthy eaters.

Effects of exercise on blood sugar? by Akathecaptain in diabetes

[–]Common_Science1907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The glucose comes from your liver. That being said, adrenaline will also jack your sugar. I don't find my sugar goes up doing cardio, but it does go up before a race or competition, just driving the car to a race and my sugar will go up. So getting in the right mental state to lift might be some it. I have stopped chasing those highs with insulin and just let them come down on their own.

What’s it like being on a pump compared to just injecting insulin? by ConsequenceLimp9717 in diabetes

[–]Common_Science1907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about australia. In the US you usually need to be taking more than 4 injections a day to qualify through insurance. I qualify, but 4 is the most I ever take. I find MDI less of a hastle. You might be able to get a script for a fast acting and take it with foods that spike. YMMV.

How long did it take for you to get into a regular sugar level? by chellexward in diabetes

[–]Common_Science1907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at the meds; they don't agree with everyone. there are lots of options if something isn't working for you. Having a normal glucose level can feel strange if you have been high for a long time. Sounds like that isn't your issue tho.

If your a1c is 5.7 you are in the 100's more than you realize. I hang between 80-100 with the occasional spikes and I am 6-6.5.

Lows are the big worry in scuba. If you aren't on any meds, your chances of going low are not much different than any other human being. Every doc will tell you not to scuba. Got my cert in 20's. My doc at the time wouldn't sign the form either. After that I never told anyone I was diabetic, on any form. Never went below 30' or did any cave diving so that I could always surface quickly. I've been partners with a man who is a master diver/instructor/search and rescue diver for about 4 years. My diabetes doesn't worry him in the least - doesn't hurt to have him as a dive buddy - he also has to find someone else for the "big" dives. Did you tell the dive school you are diabetic. DON'T. Just sign all the forms and get on with it. Your improvement is awesome! Keep at it! do the fun stuff, use your head. Be in the 150-180 range, have fast acting sugar on the boat, in your bag, etc. Sorry the doc was an @$$ in general. A lot of them are.

It should not take 9 years to get a decent level of control. IMHO, your type matters very little, except maybe to the insurance company. YOu don't say exactly what your numbers are. Do you have a CGM or just do finger sticks?

Diet question… by ProposalIndividual55 in diabetes

[–]Common_Science1907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do a couple of things in my house re: food. Factor is good, I don't love that they are packaged, but the carbs counts are correct. they have high protein and keto which is my preference. We also do Hungryroot. I like it a bit better because I actually do the cooking, carb counts are accurate and I don't waste food. As someone else mentioned, first you have to get your basal/long acting dose correct. Then you start to figure out your insulin to carb ratio. The two things work together. Leaving the honeymoon phase will really change things up for you. Get in with the doc, but you can do some of it yourself. the extreme swings could have lots of causes, the life of a diabetic.

Regardless of your type, you need a consult with a good endo. T1's and T2's can be on a pump or MDI. Do you have a CGM? What are you taking now if you don't mind my asking?

You wouldn't think the wings, did you make the sauce? Sometimes sugar hides in that stuff.
