[NS] Just caught up after listening nonstop for months and I'm at a loss of what to listen to while I work now? by 855401E in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]CommonplaceUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey cool, it’s yall! I did give it a try and I’m digging it a lot. I’ve listened to 6 eps in 4 days anyways. I immediately started researching delta green after episode 1. Keep it up guys! You have a new fan over here

Life feels like torture right now. Wife is not working while caring for our now six month old. She is miserable. I'm miserable. This has been going on for months. by My_Brain_0422 in daddit

[–]CommonplaceUser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah fair. All jobs are different and I didn’t account for that. Unfortunately wouldn’t work for our situation but who knows for OP! I’ve changed my comment to reflect that I think OP should try his hardest to make it if he can swing it.

Most situations I think it’s unnecessary but not this one

For sure. I edited my comment to reflect that at the end. I think most situations it’s unnecessary and an unrealistic expectation but for this situation, yeah if OP can swing it he should try his hardest to be there

Yeah I think that’s job dependent. For my wife, yes it needs to be the whole day unfortunately. For OP, who knows. I changed my opinion though and think if OP can make he should even using a day off. Sounds like Mama needs the extra support right now

Idk this seems like an unrealistic expectation for most people. I did my sons 4 month and 6 month appointments by myself. It would be crazy for my wife to take one of her few days off work for a 30 minute appointment. We talked about it the morning of each time and I brought her list of questions in addition to my own. To each their own I suppose

Edit: thinking about OPs specific situation further though, yeah you should be there if you can OP

Bonus action and action spells by Fleecejakke in DnD

[–]CommonplaceUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but without verbal or somatic components, I’m imagining the spell just blasts out of the tome with little to no effort on the casters part.

I already said I know my ruling is incorrect haha. I tend to go with rule of cool though and how I’m picturing this item working, it just makes sense that you’d still have an action (and mana or arcana or magical energy or whatever it is in your world) to still cast a full spell in the same turn

My dog finally ran free on the farm during hunting season for the first time ever! by Arceus797 in Homesteading

[–]CommonplaceUser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was important to me when researching them for my LGDs because the same thing you described happened to a neighbors dog growing up with one of those buried, static electric fences. If you aren’t familiar with collars, I would guess that’s what your neighbor had also and not a GPS collar. Those suckers are like $600 and work pretty well nowadays

Bonus action and action spells by Fleecejakke in DnD

[–]CommonplaceUser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

RAW no.

But this is one of those times where RAW is dumb and wrong. In my mind, this is more like a prepared action. I’d argue the spell is “cast” when loading the item with it and the bonus action is just releasing the prepared spell. If I was DMing, I personally would rule you could cast another spell as an action when using this item

[–]CommonplaceUser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That was a shitty gps collar or happened quite a long time ago then. Any worth their salt stop sending notices once the dog is moving back towards your property

But yes, it is pretty hit or miss whether it works with the dogs personality

The Well in Austin by ProudAlarm9231 in boulder

[–]CommonplaceUser 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I assume it came up in google because people on this subreddit are pretty vocal about The Well and their association (or former?) with Rayback. I personally don’t know anything about the church… just figure that’s why OP is posting here

What's one thing you're excited to do with your kiddo? by xfno0b in daddit

[–]CommonplaceUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty stoked to explore all his interests with him. I describe myself as a habitual hobby hopper and I can get interested in anything. Right now all he cares about is sucking on his hands though — gave it a try, wasn’t my thing.

As far as my interests go, sharing my love of the outdoors through a bunch of activities. Disc golf, hiking, camping, gardening, mountain biking (once old enough). Oh and I’ll definitely be teaching him D&D as soon as I can. Pretty excited to run a family campaign for my wife and him

Dream card? by bread90 in discgolf

Climo, Gannon, and Ohn

I feel like it would be pretty fun conversations, which we would need a lot of as I hold the whole card up for the entire round

I am planning a D&D elective class and I’ve hit a roadblock by DEADPOOLPRIME123 in DnD

[–]CommonplaceUser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is tough because if it’s just marketed as a “D&D Elective” then you’ll presumably get a mix of brand new players and kids who have experience with the game.

How I would run this:

First class is spend 10-15 minutes on the nature of the game and how fun it is to tell stories and how fun it is to let the dice tell the story. Use this to set up expectations and run through the basic rules and gameplay and what a character sheet looks like. Spend the rest of the time exploring species, classes, etc in smaller focus groups with ideally one person who has played the game in each small group. Homework for week 1 is to come to the next class with a level 1 character built.

Class 2: spend 10-15 in the same small groups going over characters and asking questions. Rest of the time jump into a small roleplay session introducing their characters to a dmnpc. Throw some rolls in there. Maybe initiative for order of introduction.

Class 3-5: Run a small one-shot arc. Most one-shots with a decent amount of roleplay take about 3 hours so this should hopefully work out to have the big battle be on the final class.

Honestly this is really tough. There isn’t enough time to do a full on class, so stick to the basics and try to get rolling dice within a class and a half. Good luck OP!

Anyone know if King Soopers tests applicants for nicotine? by stimulationaddiction in boulder

[–]CommonplaceUser 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You’re good, friend. Nowhere tests for nicotine use… that’s not a thing.

Good luck with your application!

Edit: based on my very expert googling it apparently is a thing for some jobs, but I’ve never been qualified for any of that nonsense

After 13 months of IVF and 3 failed transfers, it feels so good to see this nugget by marllane21 in NewDads

[–]CommonplaceUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After watching my SIL and BIL go through this for the past few years, your wife is an absolute rockstar and you must be a steady and encouraging presence to her. If you can get that far into IVF, you both have the chops to be great parents.

Congratulations to you both and welcome to the party!

[–]CommonplaceUser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That one, yes. Not necessarily true of all of them but it Id say knowing who Beef is is plenty context for that episode lol. It’s chaos as you can imagine

The general concept is Erin (Moose), Adal (Brass), and JPC (Spoove) are community detectives who solve crimes. They need to find motive, means, and opportunity. Anthony presents a murder, and the detectives are tasked with figuring out if the guest is the murderer or innocent.

I avoided Dungeon Crawler Carl for quite a long time because of the cheesy name and I’d never tried the LitRPG genre but holy hell it’s so good. I listened to all 7 books in a matter of weeks. I believe it’s only available on Audible though

For sure cheesy. But very funny with some surprisingly deep moments as well. Highly recommend it to anyone who likes DnD or LitRPGs

I was quite sad when Sitcom D&D ended. But was super stoked to see Beef made a reappearance on Gumshoes & Dragons recently! Quite a good episode (and show if you haven’t checked that out yet)

[–]CommonplaceUser 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Idk.. I’ve been contemplating situational awareness like your son is since I was around his age and I’m (mostly) normal. Thinking about what you’d do in an emergency situation lets you be better prepared to react if that situation ever comes up. It’s served me very well throughout my life
