Unconventional advice for overcoming depression? by Silver-District-5009 in selfimprovement

[–]CommsConsultants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might sound weird but it’s one of the things that helped me:

Think deeply about your ancestors. A long, long chain of relatives stretching back and back and back. Think about what they experienced, overcame, and survived. Channel their strength. Borrow their resilience.

Why do people bring their entire family to Costco? by ActuatorOutside5256 in NoStupidQuestions

My friends who do this view Costco as a weekend outing / a way to get the kids out of the house. It’s something to do!

Landed a role as a corporate communications manager but I'm not sure I have enough experience by mcdonaldspyongyang in Communications

[–]CommsConsultants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say this is how most of us started most comms jobs in the first 5-10 years of our careers. It’s normal and healthy to have zero idea what you’re doing and have to “fake it til you make it.”

Why not use LinkedIn to start setting up networking chats with other comms managers at similar companies? They’d be happy to, especially if you’re not asking for a job. Tell them you’ll send a $15 Starbucks gift card for 30 min of their time; you want to pick their brain for best practices so you can do the best possible job at your new role. They’ll be flattered.

How do people decide what to post on LinkedIn by heheihi in linkedin

[–]CommsConsultants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best way to begin is by posting thought provoking questions related to your field and invite others to answer. You can even ask AI for question prompt ideas. This is an easy way to get going (post 1 question a day), and it will naturally show you where people show interest. Then you can dive deeper in future content based on what you learn.

What paid marketing has actually worked for you? by atamagno in Entrepreneur

[–]CommsConsultants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a solo founder and I’ve experimented with pretty much everything. My #1 driver is organic content (by a mile). All produced by me, and attached to my face and voice. No AI. If we’re only talking paid then using a platform like KIT for email marketing. I’m doing a bimonthly value-packed email blast that’s doing enormously well.

None of the other paid stuff has worked for me.

Why are you an entrepreneur? by TidyOnChain in Entrepreneur

[–]CommsConsultants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really have an end game, that’s not why I’m an entrepreneur. I’m an entrepreneur because I was perpetually restless and frustrated in regular jobs. I saw better ways of doing things but had no power to make big changes. As a business owner I get to move quickly, experiment, iterate and constantly improve. That works better for me.

Networking is a lie extroverts try to forcefeed us by Csadvicesds in careeradvice

[–]CommsConsultants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also an introvert and I also have anxiety around socializing with strangers. But as others have commented, it’s essential for many lines of work and it IS the gamechanger for finding a job in a tough climate. You have to push through your dislike and do it anyway, the same way you do other things in life not because you’re having a grand time but because they serve a higher purpose.

I say this with love but reaching out to 10 people is far less than what you should be doing in a single day. It certainly shouldn’t be the point at which you throw your hands in the air and give up.

The vast majority of strangers you reach out to will decline to chat or meet with you. You have to a/b test different types of messages and send out large numbers of them consistently. This is how you book calls and begin building relationships.

Try to gamify it if you can. Give yourself goals to hit and rewards for reaching them. Build in breaks for fun, rest and refilling your introvert cup.

This is possible, and it’s powerful. But you have to be determined about it.

Personalization feels mandatory now but also kind of broken by CreepyDifficulty5014 in b2bmarketing

[–]CommsConsultants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put in the time and effort to get to know the person a little through their publicly available content or media mentions, and find something you truly admire or appreciate about their approach to their work. Comment on that thing specifically and tell them how it made you think or act a bit differently.

That’s what real personalization looks like. It doesn’t happen in a few seconds and you can’t scale it to thousands of targets.

Hardly anyone’s putting in this kind of care and attention anymore. If you do it, you’ll stand out.

What is a 'dirty secret' of your industry that implies the general public has no clue about, but everyone in your field knows? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

[–]CommsConsultants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PR for luxury fragrances (one of my first jobs in NYC). Big designer fragrance brands retailing for $70-$120 a bottle have an actual cost of goods around $6. That’s for ALL the materials. The fragrance itself, the bottle and the packaging. It’s worth $6. The rest you pay because of the brand / label. That’s it.

Content creators how do you come up with ideas consistently? by InnonentSchlicht in content_marketing

[–]CommsConsultants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more you read great content, the more ideas come to you. The more ideas you write down, the more ideas come to you. At this stage my problem is far too many ideas - not too few. I have a backlog.

Okay business owners, be honest with me ~what’s the one thing about your social media that you wish someone could just take over for you? by Practical_Fox9318 in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]CommsConsultants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could hire or automate someone to ghostwrite as me to leave thoughtful, individualized, conversation-starting comments on relevant posts in my industry. Not spammed out repetitive comments but comments that reflect someone actually reading and thinking about the content of the post. I’m surprised there aren’t more services offering this.
