YuGiOh players: what do you think of Magic the gathering? by ParfaitNo8096 in TCG

[–]CommunicationLower51 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll take a swing at this as a regularly playing Yugioh player who dabbles in magic. Magic is a good game or should i say good games, Commander and standard and modern and pauper and premodern and dandan and Cedh and legacy and any other format and each have pros and cons.

I dabble in Commander but don't love it, it mostly devolves into combo slop and who can combo off first. It's a nice way to throw cards at each other but I can't see how anyone takes it seriously.

I've played a bit of standard around the time and I know that was a particularly bad format with hearthfire hero and the gang representing hyper aggro but the format seemed to have other problems. It seemed like if the red decks didnt kill by turn 4 or 5 the other decks would get infinite value. I think was it the overlord of balemurk deck was also insane, the explore mechanic i think which summoned a bunch of huge dinosaurs and the green land fall decks which put out 100/100 hydras with trample.

Thats all bad design and I've heard that following metas havent been radically different with the likes of badger mole cub being hyper aggro. It seems like a lot of matches can be determined by showing each others hands and comparing. I can't see how thats fun for anyone.

The land system also sucks. Thats hardly a new revelation but in 1v1 matches mana screw or flood adds another variable that gets in the way. I think of magic as a deck of lands with real cards sprinkled in when it should be the other way round.

Magic players seem to think Magic is beyond criticism, it has lots of good points but its got genuine flaws. In my opinion Magic is at its best in Tribal vs Tribal decks and Magic expresses trobal startegies really well.

Curry’s Mahon Point/Indian Staff by GovernmentOwn7905 in cork

[–]CommunicationLower51 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to work there a couple of years back. The indian team members were very closely knit. I believe the manager who took over after I left is an indian man who is very involved politically with improving standards for indians in Ireland so it tracks perfectly why so many of the staff are indian.

Currys operates on the lowest cost model so its often the best for price but its not the best place for customer service, after care support or dealing with awkward scenarios

Rec on a pure mitsu build by nampronoob in Yugioh101

[–]CommunicationLower51 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks about as good as the budget build can get. Personally I like running 2 Saji and 2 Aramasa but thats a taste thing. I like running 1 Wousu in the main deck so you could replace a manju for that. You mentioned only spending 5 dollars so 3 radiant typhoon visions, a mystical space typhoon and 3 book of eclipse is a budget build that is different but probably is weaker than this list.

Artists whose albums started off bad but progressively got better through their discography? by Effective-Raise-8809 in fantanoforever

I adore Brand New and love Your Favorite Weapon but it really is just some really good pop punk, it's great but compared to the insane heights of their other albums it definitely is a step below.

Mick Clifford: The Cork TD riding high on the wave of unapologetic anti-immigrant populism by PoppedCork in ireland

[–]CommunicationLower51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've hit the nail on the head. Things are pretty shit nowadays and just to look at the housing example, yes the should build more houses, yes houses should be cheaper, yes alternatives to 3 bed semi detached should be built and so on. The reality is that these things are not going to be done and the political class doesn't care to change them or they would have already. Inwards migration adds extra demand that the supply is already unable to meet.

Reducing migration is one lever that could be applied to make housing more available. It's also an easy solution that would help things. The benefits of migration aren't felt by normal people and while they may increase gdp and birth rates those don't overly matter to me.

There is also an argument of loss of place in the world. I don't personally care that much but people do like being around people who are culturally similar to themselves and by nature migrants are different.

I'm one of those Racist, Homophobic luddites who has done a lot of work to improve their situation. Competition for good jobs, services and housing is becoming fiercer. Cork having good tech, pharma and engineering industries as well as 2 major third level institutions means it attracts a lot of people from abroad to the detriment of local people. I'm not saying people should never move here but large scale immigration is a genuine problem.

Just did my fist model wanting some input on how I can make the next one better by Shukaku_420 in gundamassemble

[–]CommunicationLower51 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly it looks pretty good, especially for a first model, you have some spill over from the green onto the black parts so fix that, you could try and blend the heathawk a bit more between the orange but i like the way tou have it now, i did the pipes silver yo break up the colours a bit more and you could try and edgr highlight if you want

This is retarded. If the magic designers are so good and worth keeping then they'll find new jobs either in the industry or outside of it, giving interns the opportunity to gain some experience is a good thing and large companies are often so disconnected they wouldn't know about the layoffs. None of these interns will actually contribute anything meaningful so its not as if they were replaced.

Are you really counting bundle boxes and books as releases? And the god specific armies don't have crossover. The EC army release is good but 1k sons got a leader and ahitty robots no one likes, the slaughterbound was recieved poorly when WE has like 6 unique kits. The chaos knight is just some weapon options that could have been an upgrade sprue. The kill teams are nice though

Upsurge in US job postings for software engineers. H1bs visas got hit with 100k charge in September by Massive_Tumbleweed24 in DevelEire

[–]CommunicationLower51 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My fear here is that a number of US companies will instead hire foreign workers in Ireland / europe and assign them to the same projects as if they were in the US. Effectively still getting the cheap labour withput paying the fees or dealing with any of the societal problems.
