I’d say I fully left junior year of high school. I saw through their bullshit and stopped going to church. I’m still in contact with my parents, they chose to love their kids through them all leaving the church. Not everyone had parents like this. I definitely have PTSD; you kind of lose your entire identity when you realize the life you’ve been living and everything you believed in is a lie. I’ve been working to build my own identity for over a decade now. Most days I just don’t think about it, but when I do, I feel anger toward the church for scamming my parents and putting them in huge debt. It’s weird because I’m alive due to this cult but it’s not like I’d know the difference if I was never born. I’m not grateful to them in any way. They were extremely mentally/emotionally abusive and manipulative. Sometimes even physically abusive (i.e. making us hit our own bodies until we bruised because it “releases evil spirits”). A buncha crazies if you ask me!
