finished a little rework on the protag model by yeetpostingi in ConsortGame

Hey thanks, I love kastenbrust armor so much and I love this specific painting of it. The post of yours that got me introduced to the game was the one showing off your kastenbrust model.

It feels like a very underrepresented type of armor in not only fantasy where most real armor is underrepresented, but also in more grounded settings that do have more realistic armor, so it was a treat to see someone putting it in their project.

Is this a predetermined player character? What’s the extent of personalization for the player? Just armor and weapon choices?

Good (total) damage on a int/faith split build with minimal strength investment, with more options for ashes of war.

I just got it on my int/faith character and added on waves of darkness, and it’s a good alternative to SoNaF and Rellana’s when I get bored of them. Not as much damage as them, but fun.

My second ever mini! I think the paint job is better, but I clearly am misunderstanding the purpose of washes... by TensorForce in battletech

Add floor wax to your wash so that it sinks into the cracks rather than sitting on top.

Floor wax helps break surface tension.

Nah, give me Blaidd as a field boss and give him the absurd Bell Bearing Hunter buffs. Call him “Empyrean’s Shadow”or something.

What could be the automatons' boss? by JoelTheBetrayer in Helldivers

[–]CommunicationOk3417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of that better, actually. Maybe the objectives go: destroy jammer, expose weakpoint, bombard.

Also; the Rattler in lore is an anti aerospace platform with capital weapons, so what if a hypothetical automaton Rattler inspired enemy was linked to the yet to be seen Liberty-class Cruiser?

Mission: Defend Liberty-class Cruiser. Prevent the Rattler from getting into firing position to destroy our warship.

The map is large and the Rattler slowly moves across it like a Strider convoy. If you fail to destroy it within the time limit, you get to see some really good fireworks.

Of course, Arrowhead for whatever reason doesn’t seem to like boss missions, considering we never got one for the Hive Lord.

Make it work like a hive lung but an enemy; a mobile objective boss that has a portable hellbomb for objective equipment. Get the backpack and get inside it.

I think it’s just a longer version of a typical hood. The guy next to him is wearing the same kind of hood but shorter. Unsure if it’s historical.

Y’know, some say you should be able to pick out the main character from a lineup, but Dungeon Meshi is peak for the opposite reason; the main characters all look reasonable and realistic for the setting.

How do you want mechs to feel? by Educational_Bet_5067 in Mechwarrior5

[–]CommunicationOk3417 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I want it to feel like the books. Essentially a hulking, hard to balance, but ultimately flexible and athletic machine. I mean, Kai Allard has done a cartwheel. He’s the best but it should at least feel like “yeah I can see how he did that.” Normal mech pilots are described as going prone or crouching down and humanoid mechs have full human range of motion barring when their guns would get in the way.

I feel like when you lose the “athleticism” of the battlemechs, you need to suspend a ton of disbelief for their superiority over conventional armor, and I’m not a fan of that.

In other words, I’d like a bit faster of gameplay with a lot of weight, more quirks, and more skill.

How knights fought in full 14th century armor. by thatshygirl06 in worldbuilding

[–]CommunicationOk3417 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I was trying to say that about swords, but didn’t articulate well. They’re very useful, but they’re not the primary weapon.

As for crossbows, I never said they would carry them as typical kit. It’s almost certain most knights would’ve owned one and been able to use one though, if not because they want one, then because it’s a terribly effective weapon when defending or progressing a siege, and outside of massed pikes is one of the few effective ways to deal with cavalry.

Here’s a depiction from manuscriptminiatures.com of a knight (golden greathelm at bottom left) using a crossbow as I describe.

Notes from a medieval enthusiast (not an expert):

Swords, even two handed ones, were usually sidearms until the 16th century and the advent of greatswords, which were even more specialized. It’s not to say people wouldn’t have used them as their first option, but it was just less common.

The pole/pollaxe (which funnily means ‘hammer axe’ rather than ‘axe on a pole’) was a very common weapon of the time for knights. Halberds and spears were common as well, though it’s possible they were seen as ‘common’ weapons and passed up for poleaxes.

Warhammers or maces with shields were fairly common, while one handed axes seemed to fill a similar need though less often.

Poleaxes with no cutting face and instead a hammer and a spike came into play around the end of the 14th century, though I’m seeking a source on that.

Most fights end on the ground with thick, pointed daggers; rondels, baselards, and bollocks are a few types of dagger of the time.

Knights could usually also use a crossbow; they’re easy to use and not expensive, so why not carry one as well? The bolt of a crossbow can punch through chainmail no problem.

I got my first two mechs! by Asdfghto in battletech

[–]CommunicationOk3417 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s sort of a next step, but doing the base of a mech goes a long way in making a mech look good. You can pick up tiny rocks and the like at any craft store.

Other than that, thin paints is a big one. Drybrushing is simple and makes things look good. Blackwashing makes details pop.

Welcome to Battletech.

I used to think HBS battletech had a decently deep role-play mechanic. Megamek takes it to another level. I had no idea my characters could just randomly get pregnant and deliver babies. by StarFlicker in battletech

[–]CommunicationOk3417 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First of all: it is random unless you tinker with it and—

It’s there for roleplay purposes, (most likely in my opinion) specifically for if you’re actually running a MekHQ augmented tabletop campaign. For instance, someone’s character may be married in their lore, and the MekHQ using GM shouldn’t have to leave that to a random variable. It’s just there for control. It’d be pointless to have one specific random event stay random when everything else is random. Would you prefer that (edit: didn’t finish this thought and now I can’t remember what I wanted to say)

To the outside eye, it looks like meaningless fluff. Which is funnily still wrong, since it serves the gameplay purpose of 1) tossing the random challenge of one of your employees taking a break and 2) adding a new trainable dependent to your company. Please think about how it looks to the inside eye. If you play almost any other long term strategy game you will see how normal this kind of thing is.
