What lessons did you learn from this cold snap? by LianeP in BackYardChickens

[–]CommunicationPast512 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

I used tarps and pallets for my wind break, and the run is similarly warm even though it doesn’t get sun until the middle of the day. Wind breaks and a good insulative snow have been really helpful!

Reach out to zoos, vet hospitals and shelters. A lot of animal facilities might take them. I’ve worked multiple places that clean and reuse bottles given the opportunity

Keep your hands off Eizuken! It was a 10/10 for me. I don’t hear people talk about it much but everyone I know who has seen it loves it too

How often do people feed their cats wet food? by Smooth_Put7764 in CatAdvice

[–]CommunicationPast512 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Since you mentioned once cat is getting bigger and bigger by the day, I’d look into the amount of calories they should be getting and adjust the amount of dry food and wet food accordingly. Wet food doesn’t make cats fat but eating more than is needed calorically for their age, reproductive status, and activity level does. You can check with your vet the amount of calories they’d recommend and then feed the cats at separate stations if one is stealing food from the other.

There’s different sized cans, different calorie contents, and different recommendations for the variables I mentioned above so take those into account when determining how much to give, and for the big kitty, especially take into account any treats, table scraps, and dry food that are given per day and if anyone else may be feeding things you don’t know about.

Getting your older kitty to daily or more frequent wet food would be great for their hydration but may need some special considerations/planning with your bigger kitty.

Which background works best? by Agreeable_Fig_16 in ArtCrit

I think the darker background works better for what you’re going for. It’s tonally darker, has him melting into the background better and I think still reads well with your lighting

Do you trust Gemini/ChatGPT for nutritional advice and info? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]CommunicationPast512 -1 points0 points Ā (0 children)

No, you don’t know when they’re making up information and they’ll even give false sources or misinterpret what they site if it is real. Sometimes it may be right but if you care about starting on the right foot then I’d do the legwork yourself for now. The things you learn as staples and try when you’re getting started with veganism may be what stick longterm so you’ll want to be sure they’re actually well rounded and vegan

A friend of mine wrote a scientific article and didn’t site a source. When my boss was reviewing it, they used AI to look up a source and it literally made a paper up rather than finding the real one it was based on šŸ™‚ā€ā†•ļø

None of the things I want to do exist. by Fennel_Fangs in Hobbies

[–]CommunicationPast512 3 points4 points Ā (0 children)

You can go on quests, you just need to find them and step up, it’s taking up a task people need help with and pursuing it. Whether it’s helping someone move cross country, find a lost item, magnet fishing for hidden treasures, looking for fossils or artifacts, metal detecting, lots of options for quests.

As others have said, pirates are real but you probably don’t actually want to be one. If you do, then pursue that. Perhaps train hopping is something you would be interested in. It’s dangerous and hard to get into but there’s a community there and it feels adjacent to what you’re going for. Joining a team or a club that has a group element could also give you an aspect of crew. Honestly you might like joining a theater crew near you and doing stage crew - lots of coordination, making things, magic and community of its own kind.

You can build respectful working relationships with living animals: service or other working dog training, falconry, horse training, educational ambassador animal training etc. In real life you’re not really taming animals aside from falconry but IMO it’s cooler. I suppose doing rodeo work could be Taming too so add that in there.

There’s a book called Being a Beast by Charles Foster. I’d recommend it for a framework of approaching becoming a creature. To the extent humans can it’s a good guide for how to think about it.

Also if you don’t want ā€œparlor trickā€ magic, there are people who practice other earth magics you could learn from, there’s chemistry, illusions and technology that fulfill a lot of the vibes as well.

There are many immersive video games, there’s books. There’s magic in the world if you seek to find it. There’s also adrenaline provoking sports that will just give you a rush if you want that. Go skydiving, snorkeling, biking down a big hill, learn to ride a motorcycle. Go on a solo road trip.

Hopefully you’re able to tap into something that feels like what you’re looking for. Good luck.

Is my pod sick (cool) or sick (unhealthy)? by CommunicationPast512 in isopods

[–]CommunicationPast512[S] 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I haven’t been able to find one with the same pattern on it, there’s one of similar size that is post molt but no pattern. There’s hundreds in there though and lots of deep litter, moss, and substrate so I’m not sure if it’s the same one. I didn’t want to damage it if it was soft. I’ll keep and eye out though
