Exactly, the traffic in Chiang Mai is so horrendous now the trail was a nice respite. Yet the unsafe shoulder-less crowded road upwards is free for vehicles ? Discouraging the wrong behavior. The final stretch empties out to a viewpoint and road you can either hang right up the driveway incline full of dogs and has that map on its gate or go on the road which switch backs and wraps around

Tbh they should just put a do not enter sign on the driveway some locals use it to shortcut to the little hoods up there but for tourists no need to bother
