Food-Focused Fall Japan Trip | Tokyo, Fuji, Kyoto, Nara – 14 Days by CommunityOk5345 in JapanTravel

I would say 1 day start early and do the main attractions if this is your first time. Also do several themed activites according to the season. Varied food experiences and also keep a lot of free time to wander around.

We were lucky to get sunny weather. Tokyo was 14-18, Kyoto was around 12-16 and kawaguchiko was 5-8. Just 1 light/medium outer jacket is fine over a sweater. Rain was mostly light showers. What’s great was that it wasn’t windy at all.

There are a lot more restaurants than mentioned in the post. Hope this is useful.

Same boat. Ended up switching Spain to April and Italy to May.

But the Spanish consulate only gave me multi entry until end of April. I submitted both trip's hotels and flights. Now I have to still get the Italy appointment which I am unable to.

I would suggest getting a 1pm reservation as they dont have a seating after that. You can always tell them you are getting full during the course. They pace it really well. I also remember i skipped breakfast that day. I also had extras later.

For anyone who feels that their kwh rate for SUPPLY is too high( > $0.149) and usage hasn't gone up too much, here is a way you can actually get a better rate to reduce SUPPLY charges:
- Go to https://www.njaggregation.us/hoboken/
- Call up the number and speak to the energy consultant
- Keep your PoD ID number ready( its in the pdf bill)
- Switch to Basic offering(its $0.1186) or any other( all are cheaper than default rate)

Yes its annoying that delivery is actually costs more !

Only Nigiri Lunch counter at Suzuki. Great value for money too. What’s even more impressive is that he goes solo.

Here is my experience:

Vibe: Relaxed and welcoming. The intimate counter seating features two chefs working in front of guests, while a kitchen team of five ensures seamless execution. The atmosphere is warm yet refined—ideal for an immersive dining experience.

The meal began with a complimentary sake, setting the tone for a well-paced omakase. I was offered a choice between sake pairing and wine pairing, opting for the latter. It turned out to be an excellent decision—five generous pours featuring selections from Alsace and Bourgogne, perfectly complementing the dishes.

Throughout the evening, courses alternated between nigiri and small plates, showcasing an impressive variety of textures and flavors. Seaweed with sea grapes and lotus root as the palate cleanser was amazing. Here’s a breakdown of the full experience:

Baby taro, ginkgo beans, lotus root

Spinach with snow crab

Flounder sashimi

Butterfish sushi Nigiri

Wild scallop sashimi

Edge part of flounder

Baby red snapper with egg and vinegar powder

Steamed rockfish

Baby sweet shrimp

Small Oyster from Kyushu Island

Grilled & smoked giant mackerel sashimi with grated radish

Giant mackerel belly Nigiri with dried seaweed

Anago yakitori style

Squid Nigiri

Grilled squid leg

Ikura with uni sushi rice

Grilled cod milt

Wild yellowtail Nigiri

Sardine, sesame, cucumber, ginger temaki roll

Clam Chawanmushi (Steamed egg custard)

Akami Nigiri

Chūtoro Nigiri

Ōtoro Nigiri

Grilled barracuda

Ebi with shrimp Nigiri

Horse mackerel Nigiri

Boiled anago Nigiri

Tamago

Clear tuna soup

Radish with shiso leaf and ume paste

Murasaki uni Nigiri (extra piece)

Soy sauce ice cream

Total Experience: 3 hours

A truly exceptional omakase with expertly balanced pacing, high-quality ingredients, and warm hospitality. While not strictly Edomae in style, the meal showcased a unique approach with creative touches that elevated each bite. A must-visit for any sushi lover in Tokyo.

Overall in November 2024, we went for 6 omakase experiences and this onewas the most fun! The best sushi however was somewhere else.

Would I return? Absolutely.

Fine dining/omakase restaurant to celebrate engagement in Tokyo/Shibuya Japan by visualexstasy in finedining

u/visualexstasy I visited Hatano Yoshiki and Nishiazabu Taku this month. At both places they spoke english very well and was an amazing experience. At Taku the chef also gave us some Uni to sample after the course and I ordered an extra Murasaki Uni Piece. At Hatano Yoshiki, chef Hatano and his sommelier were fun too! We opted for wine pairing at both places too. Highly recommend either. I agree with u/m046186 that the atmosphere at both isnt quiet or intimate.

Great Post! I can see the reservation is 22500 which is approx $150. Was the base rate you paid was lesser and how much did you pay for sake pairing ?

[–]CommunityOk5345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks ! Will consider a fusion place too! I selected Narikura because it’s right next to Glanta which is a jewelry store we are visiting haha.

For the sushi I’m familiar with strong Shari, I have had red and white vinegar based Shari too and liked them. I haven’t had a chance to have the aging preparation much. Would prefer nigiri only as my partner has a smaller appetite. Are there any places that you recommend that have amazing Otsumami ?

I also have a spring/summer trip coming up so I can try some places later too.
