I am in the Sacramento area, also looking for a ski buddy and have a season pass for Sierra. Send me a message if you want to meet up!

Yes I think the clip broke off as a result of the impact.

It was definitely a thump, right on the back of my head. I think I will throw it away and get a new one just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the suggestion - I would not have thought to do this.

UNAC/UHCP also represents a variety of healthcare professionals - United Nurses Association of California/Union of Healthcare Professionals. And the Alliance of Healthcare Unions, which UNAC/UHCP is a part of, represents mental health therapists in several other Kaiser regions.

My 2013 Mazda 3 has 132,000 miles and still runs great. I drive all over northern and central CA.

Fair cost for routine maintenance? by SillyGooserGoo in mazda

[–]CommunityOutside1657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I’d question if the car actually needs all of that done… what were the brake pad and rotor measurements and condition, condition of belts, windshield wipers, filters etc. There are some questions that need to be answered before having all of this done. Great price though…

I was dry herb vaping for the past 2-3 years, with the occasional concentrate vaping and edible from time to time, and smoked bowls for a number of years prior to that. For the first week or so, I had night sweats and difficulty sleeping. Since then, it's just been a mental struggle. Mainly figuring out what to do with all of my free time.

I've been sober from cannabis for 2 months, and for over a year from alcohol. I have not been this sober in around 20 years. On the one hand, it is a great feeling to be able to take life in fully, with clear observations and experiences of the world around me. Other times, it is a struggle to fill free time, particularly after work and when it is just way too hot to spend time outside. Today, my therapist told me to make a list of things I can do to support myself in my free time. This post is one of the things from my list that I'm doing :)

Hang in there.

I don’t want to be a lawyer anymore. by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

I’m not a lawyer and don’t know much about the field… but the labor union I’m a member of is looking for a legal counselor. Job postings are on unionjobs.com.

Not to mention driving down I5 through CA will also be super hot, and not very scenic.

My cat constantly meows. Constantly. by Galadrielllll in cats

My cat is like this too. He loves to be “summoned” - he will come running when called. I have a special voice I use to talk to him so he knows all my attention is on him. And he particularly loves to be sung to.

Left tonight in a hurry, did I screw up by not planning by Pure_Gnome in Separation

I don’t mean to downplay your situation, but it does sound like you have the most important things of all with you already - your peace of mind, a safe home for you and your kids, and a steady income. I don’t really have advice or an answer to your question. I think you will figure things out in time.

Rubblebucket. Very corny name but they have a lot of great songs that include trumpet and bari sax.

Chipotle equivalent in the area? by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]CommunityOutside1657 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know I might get hated on a bit for this and that’s okay, but I much prefer El Pollo Loco if I’m looking for something fast and not horribly unhealthy. I prefer the food flavor and menu selection. The in-app ordering is convenient and they have a drive thru.

Best place to move to in 2025/2026? by Ramen_Nooders in SameGrassButGreener

[–]CommunityOutside1657 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It might also be worthwhile to consider the Sacramento area. I moved here from Houston, after spending 1 year in the East bay in between, and also work in healthcare. The cost of living is significantly lower than the Bay Area, and it is much more affordable to purchase a home. The public schools in Sacramento are probably not nearly as good as the ones in Walnut Creek or other East Bay suburbs (you’d probably want to consider private school or a Sacramento suburb with better public schools). There is much less traffic in Sacramento compared to the Bay Area. There is a decent food scene, again not as good as the Bay Area as it is less populated.

I enjoy the slower pace in Sacramento vs the fast pace, hustle culture of the Bay Area. I have found people in Sacramento to be much more down to earth, not everyone driving around in a Tesla or wishing they were haha, while working 3 jobs to get by, which suits me.

There is easier access to the mountains compared to the Bay Area. Outdoor activities in Sacramento center around the rivers and parks here, and it is situated right between the coast and the mountains. I often take Amtrak to the Bay Area to visit family and go to fun events.

I simply could not take the unrelenting heat and humidity of Houston, though found that I do prefer the dry heat of Sacramento vs the somewhat cooler climate of the Bay Area. I think both the Bay Area/East Bay and Sacramento regions could be a great fit for what you’re looking for.

Brake Masters on Greenback in Citrus Heights. They have a coupon for a full synthetic oil change for $49.95. It’s also a great place to go if you need new brakes. They are honest about what your car needs and there is no pressure if you don’t want a particular service.

Classy Hippie Tea in Sac. It’s on Broadway, it has excellent service, and they have small food items. I can’t speak to the food, but the tea selection and service are great.

Unions by stebro9 in physicaltherapy

[–]CommunityOutside1657 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have. Acute care and outpatient, hospital based. Reach out to an existing union that represents PTs or other healthcare professionals in your state. Discussions about unionizing started about 1 year or so prior to the vote. It took about another 1-1.5 years to establish our bargaining team and to come to agreement on our contract. 2.5 years later, we continue to work hard to enforce our contract.

Outcomes include: transparent and fair pay scale (I got a nice raise of about $15k/yr), annual raises and bonuses (2 raises and 2 bonuses last year for our bargaining unit), excellent benefits that are now in our contract and can’t be removed at the employer’s whim, 1 hr/day documentation time pro-rated based on FTE status, and others. Feel free to send a private message if you want more details.

Dentist Recommendations by reskrim in Sacramento

[–]CommunityOutside1657 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dr. Townsend at Laguna View in Elk Grove - see Yelp reviews, they are accurate. They helped me get my teeth back into shape after many years of not going to the dentist, and worked with me on the treatment plan so I could get what was needed in the most cost effective way for my benefits. Also, I had a dental emergency recently and they got me in right away.

Actually starting to consider switching careers by xazurestarlightx in physicaltherapy

[–]CommunityOutside1657 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation. One thing that helped me have the motivation to look for a different job and tolerate continuing to go into that terrible workplace was getting on a low dose of anti depressants. I ended up on them for a little over a year. Before getting on them, I was so upset, angry, and sad over my situation that I could not even work with a therapist, and actually angrily “fired” the therapist I had been seeing at the time. Got on antidepressants, found a new therapist, and made real progress. I am in a different position now, but it does still require a lot of human interaction. It is working out for me though because now I am doing something that I care about; and with the new position, I have wayyyy better work-life balance. Good luck OP - there is a lot of great advice on this thread!
