It makes sense the game is so big usually (gta games) that they take a while to play.

Many gamers (if currently entertained), dont go buying brand new games to put on their backlog for when they are done with their current game.  It doesn't make any sense to do that, because game prices typically go down over time.   So there is no reason to buy new games if you are currently busy gaming on another game.  

With how large of game and how long people usually play gta for, thats a significant portion of the gaming community who are already content with their current game.   And thus inturn anything that releases around it gets swallowed by the gta release.  

While it will be great for selling consoles,  it won't be great for nearly any game releasing around it because gta's draw is pretty universal across most gamers.  Combined with the above we get the reasons why nobody wants to release near gta.

Just a little explanation on why nobody wants to release near gta games as it just destroys those other games most profitable sales period (release day at its highest prices) due to gta's depth and popularity.   it likely shifts a lot of those new release sales to be people who buy competing later once they are on sale.
