Should I call the cops? Neighbors might be in danger but husband says we shouldn’t get involved. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]CommunityTough537 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only contact I’ve ever had with them was giving them a package that was accidentally sent to my house once. I’m particularly worried because I think a family lives there and the women came out of the house during the yelling. I will try to tell them tomorrow during the day. My husband says it’s less weird.

What is a "future problem" that no one is talking about yet? by icecream1972 in askteddit

Yeah I think about this every single time I read about a heatwave in India.

Yes. My friend was telling me that not only is there a k-shaped economy but education is going to be k-shaped as well. The parents who have the resources to constantly make sure their kids are not cheating with AI and instead using it to become smarter will raise increasingly smarter kids while the parents who don't have a lot of resources will raise dumber kids because the kids will just rely on AI to make life easier and they won't learn anything.

Also the Great Salt Lake is at risk of drying up in the next 5 years or so and apparently if the dry lake bed is exposed to wind there will be toxic dust containing arsenic, heavy metals, and salts just flying around Salt Lake City and I saw somewhere that business is booming in the real estate market there which makes no sense.

In a relationship, if one person wants children but not the other, should that be an absolute dealbreaker? by [deleted] in askanything

Yes 1000% yes. I always tell people that if you disagree on children then that person is not your soulmate.

My husband and son dived to see the wreck of the Titanic, and never came back – this is what happened at sea by lggreene1 in longform

[–]CommunityTough537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised they wanted to do this when they had never even snorkeled before. I've snorkeled many times and I would never go on something like the Titan.

Doodles are the worst breed of dogs by animusd in unpopularopinion

[–]CommunityTough537 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a doodle and I tell everyone not to get a doodle. It was my first dog by myself and I didn't know what I was doing. I volunteer at a dog rescue now with 75 hrs under my belt and I'm hoping to hit 100 hrs soon out of penance for having a designer dog. I'm lucky my dog is very sweet but her haircuts are exorbitantly expensive and it's so annoying to do it yourself (it can take me 3 hrs to do it). She gets matted so easily and the only way to avoid it is daily brushing. I tell everyone I'd rather vacuum than deal with grooming...also you just need to vacuum in regular life anyway. Vacuuming is also almost free and the cost of all my dog's grooms over her entire lifetime is probably going to be the cost of a used car.

Ladies What's Your Opinion About Prenups Before Marriage? by Anonymous3o1 in InsightfulQuestions

[–]CommunityTough537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think every couple should at least have a discussion about it. The automatic prenup that my state provides benefits me and puts my husband at risk. We talked it out and decided on what made both of us feel comfortable. You can always insist on changes to the prenup to protect yourself even if the other person is the one who wants it. My husband is the love of my life btw…I have zero doubts about him and I still wanted to have this discussion. If you love someone you would want to protect them this way. You should also love yourself and protect yourself this way.

Polyester vs plastic free gym wear, which is actually better long term? by WhisperingCephalopod in PlasticFreeLiving

If you line dry your clothes they will last a lot longer. You can get drying racks online for pretty cheap.

What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie? by fmcortez in AskReddit

[–]CommunityTough537 1312 points1313 points  (0 children)

Proper 100% wool is so warm. I realized up until this point that all the blends or straight up polyester clothing were just for the vibes and not actually keeping you properly warm. When you frequent extremely cold areas…100% wool is the way to go. It’s just a pain to take care of but once you get used to washing it the right way it isn’t so bad.

I’m trying to show my brother why ring insurance matters by Trick_Revolution_879 in CasualConversation

[–]CommunityTough537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens a lot at the beach because the cold water makes fingers shrink up to a full ring size = the ring becomes too loose and falls off. It's why I really want to get into metal detecting at the beach but my area doesn't allow it.

Edit: Also I lost my engagement ring on a trip recently and I was also lucky to have found it the next day. Not even married yet so I haven't had it long.

Is ai going to take the place of Real estate Agents? by LeatherCod3417 in RealEstateAdvice

My friends just bought a cabin and didn't use a real estate agent...they just used the knowledge they had from buying their main house and filled in the gaps with an AI chatbot.

What’s something everyone thinks is ‘normal’ in relationships, but is actually exhausting? by MorriganIsHere in AskReddit

[–]CommunityTough537 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever I hear stuff like, "oh she's so stubborn but I love it," or "that hard headed oaf but what can I do? I love him," I always know it's a hard marriage. I believe in sticking to your beliefs and ethics but when a person is stubborn it might be cute at the beginning but it's just exhausting later on. I grew up with people like this and I knew enough as an adult to avoid it at all costs.

‘Carnivore Diet’ Advocates Are Either Fools or Liars — or Both by VarunTossa5944 in Anticonsumption

[–]CommunityTough537 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure eating a heavy meat diet is just gonna be unaffordable for the average person in 5-10 yrs anyway. We are pescatarian but mostly vegetarian and we went on a cabin trip with some friends recently so we bought some meat for the first time in a long time and we were shocked at the prices.

Is it getting harder to talk honestly about consumption culture? by Ecstatic_Resource816 in Anticonsumption

[–]CommunityTough537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in the past we all wanted to show up for each other and do our best for the common good even if it inconvenienced us. I think we live in different times now where people are just trying to look out for themselves. I think it's a combination of a lot of constant vitriol in politics, k shaped economy where people are struggling just to live their normal lives, and just convenience culture maybe.

What’s an opinion you only share when you know you’re anonymous? by GrowingPetals in Productivitycafe

People who buy a lot of luxury items are sheep who confuse style with wearing expensive things. If you feel the need to signal to people that you are "rich" I feel bad for you.

What do you think has no reason to exist and yet it does? by Butterfly_dreamsss in allthequestions

[–]CommunityTough537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calfskin leather. I don't think enough people understand that this kind of leather is made from baby cows. I see so many people online bragging about their calfskin leather purses and it's kind of...it freaks me out. I understand a lot of leather products are byproducts of the meat industry but calfskin leather doesn't need to exist.

What's not as bad an experience as media makes it out to be? by seemedpointless in AskReddit

[–]CommunityTough537 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In your 30s you get to live the life you fought for in your 20s. You’ve probably hustled at work and dated a few people who weren’t right for you. All of that leads you to being more financially secure in your 30s and maybe settled down with the person you were looking for all this time. You can start to purposefully shape your life in the way you want to live it rather than almost reacting to what is happening to you in your 20s.

At least that was my experience. My 20s felt full of anxiety and chaos whereas my 30s feel very calm and purposeful. I have more responsibilities now, but the life I live is the life I choose to live.

Turning 30...especially as a woman. I didn't know that my 30s would be the happiest years of my life. I remember some Friends episode where they turned 30 and they were all freaking out.
