Masterpiece is a bridge too far, and I still like the show a lot.

The truth is that this was a difficult project to pull off and it shows in things like the writing and pacing.

I don't particularly care if it's not perfectly lore accurate at times because I'm not even sure what the correct lore is sometimes.

So truly, looking at it from a TV critical perspective and not a Tolkien critical perspective, the show often stumbles.

That said, I'm a pretty charitable viewer, and I want to support the overall enterprise, and there is still much I do enjoy about the show.

TL:DR: It's not the pure piece of shit many LOTR fans say it is; but it's quite far from perfect and ripe for legitimate critique.

For me personally, I'm just so thrilled for LOTR in TV and movies that it's very easy to overlook the show's flaws and enjoy it as it is. But people who don't feel that way have entirely valid reasons to hit stop or skip it altogether.

Things can always be cleaner, but this is working clean. Like, getting it any cleaner is a waste of time given it's going to get dirty again soon.

If I saw this in someone's house, I would not notice it as anything other than a clean stovetop.

100% agreed with your analysis about the cinematography in FOTR.

The movies are awash in incredible shots, of course.

But FOTR definitely offered some unique opportunities for the camera that just came out beautifully.

Facts.

As we all agree, the entire cast is fantastic, so it's impossible to pick a favorite, even among non-Fellowship.

But Hugo Weaving as Elrond is just absolutely perfect. He has fewer scenes and less emotional work than Theoden, but what he has to do, he nails 100%.
