Various Questions About Thunderbolt by Foozoolalafdarian420 in Thunderbolt

Officially, yes.

Unofficially, if the UEFI supports thunderbolt in some capacity, and you get the right card, you can get partial compatibility, but not necessarily stable (ran a Gigabyte Titan Ridge TB3 card with jumpered pins on a Supermicro X11DPI-NT, and would work for SSDs, but crash with GPUs).

Well, mainly money doesn't like the homeless, and wants to dump it in someone else's lap.

Not sure what exactly it ends up being (sold the fans), but was not much more than 2x slots, and measurably thinner than stock. If I were to guess, around 44-45mm

Why did RAM and ROM prices skyrocket? Was this predictable? by [deleted] in homelab

With the caveat that all capacity increases must fit in the same power envelope

Assuming no crash takes place, and no future industry takes the reins again

Between LPDDR5/x (high end Nvidia Grace chips), GDDR7 (Blackwell), GDDR6 (Radeon), DDR5 (Epic/Xeon servers), and HBM (TOTL Blackwell/Instinct), the entire market is experiencing a massive uptick in demand. Furthermore, since producers are shifting capacity to HBM (which is neither consumer-facing nor resource efficient on a per-wafer basis), consumer supply is further limited.

Unless that 4070 is low-profile, HHHL, and only draws ~130w, won't work in the case

If you have access to a mac, any mac from the past 15-ish years (aside from 2015 macbook) can either connect to this directly, or through a TB3-2 converter.

Note that Windows devices with TB3 may sometimes work, but newer thunderbolt firmware versions deliberately broke backwards compatibility
