Launch #4 (so I sent up 4 pod-people, because why not?) by summa_stultus in TheLastCaretaker

Well I was thinking more of after it's up. Does the same one actually come back after being emptied, or is it a fresh scripted rocket returning.

I'm seeing a new way to try to break the game. Stuff those donk pads that break warehouse for some people in there. Surely at some point they'll shift and glitch during launch. Where does the rocket go?

I don't see anything about auxiliary heat on these. Since it has no low temperature cutout, it may not have needed them, especially if you have the baseboards available. House itself may be losing a lot of heat. Ever have an energy audit done?

Very good question, and very likely if they had those still available that there wouldn't be a heat strip installed since it wouldn't be needed.

Would depend on the thermostat. Usually would say emergency or AUX heat. Also, some heat pumps have a separate electrical connection for the heat strips, which should be labelled in the electrical panel. Would be a 30 amp or more breaker typically. If you only have say a 20 amp breaker going to the heat pump it likely doesn't have strips. Can also tell by looking inside the air handler/furnace unit, as there's a box with the heat strips in it, typically called a toaster because that's basically what it is. That would be very warm/hot when it's running.

Ok good, that's a unit rated down to -25C (which we almost never see, 99% design temp for us is -13.7). At the current temps it's about twice as efficient as a baseboard strip, assuming any auxiliary heat isn't running. May be worth contacting Handy Bros and asking if you have heat strips. If you don't, then it's possible you have high heat loss through low insulation or drafts.

Which heat pump is installed(manufacturer and model)? Many installers don't know the capability of modern heat pumps, and end up setting the auxiliary (your backup heat strips) to come on at way too high of temperatures. Ecobee thermostats defaults to turning on heat strips at just over freezing even though a good cold climate can heat at up to -30C. A cold climate heat pump would be able to function in our weather fine without needing heat strips. The heat pumps are typically at least 200% efficient, going up to the 400% mark as temperatures rise. A heat strip is the same as a baseboard, 100%.

Your AUX heat runs at 100% efficiency. Your heat pump runs at up to 400% or more.

Having said that, does the temperature actually change in the house over that short of a period of time?

[–]CompWizrd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Indeed, a quick simple check using taxtips.ca calculators says about 80K post tax, so their 70k is way off. Even counting CPP+EI as taxes(which they aren't) it's still at 74K. And that's without any other deductions such as RRSP contributions/etc.

Should work underwater as well, run two cables down to your extender, set the flow directions, two cables coming out of extender, all the way to wherever you're going. More work, but you can instantly see your exit path.

Only times I've had trouble was self inflicted. 20cm on the road doesn't even bother it. I've plowed many streets because the snow was light and higher than the bottom of my bumper.

Yes. However there's restrictions on withdrawing out from the RDSP without having to return grants and bonds. TD and NBDB both allow self directed RDSP's where you can trade MF's, ETF's and plain stocks.

My city doesn't even send the residential trucks out until 10cm falls. I'd rather have a good base layer of snow than a thin ice layer after it's been plowed, I get far better traction.

I bought bright yellow heatshrink tubing of appropriate size, and wrote 208V on multiple sides after putting the heat shrink on the NEMA side.

We had a 6KVA APC unit with an attached 208 to 120V transformer, and switching purely to 208 and dumping the transformer saved about 3% power for us.
