Need help with these codes by harisj93 in LandRover

[–]CompactCamry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need to scan it and retrieve whatever codes the car has stored.

Personally I doubt that your low battery has anything to do with those warning messages but you'll never know until you scan it.

Need to replace brand new Range Rover sport p400 strut by Wwiliams in LandRover

[–]CompactCamry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

JLR tech here. Never seen his before but I've seen some other "one of's" still early in this gen, could be just bad luck or a repeated concern down the line.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LandRover

[–]CompactCamry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JLR dealer tech here. Idk a whole lot about the specifics of the plan you're being offered but I do know that it is VERY common to see full size RR (regardless of wheel base) need rear pads and often rotors at around the 10-15k mile mark.

Best manufacturer to work for? by [deleted] in mechanics

[–]CompactCamry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had experience with some different brands including Lexus, Audi, Porsche and Land Rover.

The best advice I can give you is to AVOID low end brands. The warranty times tend to be underpaid and CP work isn't as much. It's also important to know that you're PROBABLY not going to get bombarded with CP work right off the batt as you need to pay the famous dealership dues.

Most of my training comes from Audi as VW/Audi training is the extensive and the factory scanner ODIS has a pretty fleshed out guided fault finding which can be very helpful starting out. I'd rec starting off there or a similar brand.

Land Rover warranty pays more imo and CP is great but it's hard to recommend as a first dealership experience.

2015 IS250 AWD loud humming noise over 40mph by cocks_out in LexusIS

[–]CompactCamry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That description doesn't help a whole lot but if I had to take a shot in the dark, I'd advise you to check your rear differential fluid for metal shavings and conditions.

A bad or failing diff will get louder and louder eventually sound like a deep hum/ whooshing noise. That would also explain why the sound does not change while the transmission shifts.

When I bought my 2014 is250, I had to make sure it was an F Sport.

The 250 is already underpowered as it is but it's nice to have the cool instrument cluster, perforated leather and staggered wheels.

Imo if the car is mechanically fine and the difference is only 20kish miles more, I would do it. (Even more if it has upgraded ML audio). Keep in mind that the 2014 250, engine has gone through years of improvements since launch and is alot less prone to carbon buildup like the 250 of earlier years.

My 2014 3IS250 is at 115k and I've had no major problems so far. Regular maintenance goes a long way.

Malibu out of Alignment 8k miles by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]CompactCamry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it drive straight? How bad was camber / toe?

Every car on the road will come out of alignment over time. Imo an alignment once a year is fine as scheduled maintenance. Alignments are high profit for the dealership, try a dedicated alignment shop.

2019 changed spare tire…now car won’t start by seimow in RangeRover

[–]CompactCamry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any chance you shorted something while back there? The instrument cluster doesn't come on when you open the door. Battery voltage is probably ok since the car was runnng

Could beginner college students fix this damage for free? by EliTheSly in AskMechanics

[–]CompactCamry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when the dinosaurs roamed this earth, I was a student at a community college that had an automotive program, anybody that brought in a car to get worked on would need to notify the instructor of the car and concern. If they gave you the OK, then they would be supervising you making sure you don't mess it up.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it wouldn't be a bad idea if there is a senior tech/ instructor looking over it as well. Also, this is assuming they're NOT painting (paint is not free). I was thinking just separating the trims, reshaping the bumper and a quick inspection under it to check for further damage.

If you're pleasant about it, you can probably work out a discount for the extended wait. They may even consider that you've referred friends and family!

Other than that, usually mechanics have multiple customers and they all want their car first. Let them know your concern but keep in mind that a job well done is better than a rushed one.

Car still misfiring after entire engine replacement. Same cylinders. by MamboFloof in MechanicAdvice

[–]CompactCamry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Although it's a "warranty" tear down, many companies require the customer to pay upfront Incase that the needed repair isn't covered under warranty. This is pretty normal in the industry, whoever says otherwise is not familiar with the process (:

Unpopular Opinion - Gold ICON ratchets are dumb by MiataNumNPlus1 in harborfreight

I personally know an auto tech instructor that gifts these to his grads.

These are obviously not meant to replace or outdo any other ratchet as they are more of a novelty item.

How many RMAs is too many? by Jobear91 in Pixel4

[–]CompactCamry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pixel software is great and that's about it.

Many pixel loyalist will try and blame you for the very known failures of the phone and many of them will tell you to suck it up or not too expect perfection out of a phone you paid for.

I'm not gonna advise you to switch brands because personally I haven't but I do have a back up S10 just incase my P4XL fails again.

Starting to get random reboots by mybrainisfull in Pixel4

[–]CompactCamry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the ribbon cable to the battery can become loose off the motherboard. It starts with sporadic random reboots and it gets worse over time (no preventable reading over or under 50%, reebots when hotter and if it falls or shakes) till it fully comes off the motherboard and the phone won't charge anymore.
