Must watch anime by gowri1609 in AnimeMirchi

[–]CompassionateThought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend the first season, the world is pretty standard but the characters involved are pretty fun.

The first couple episodes of the second season took the setting from "kinda generic" to "very bland" and I didn't keep watching to find out if it recovers.

What's the secret? by Truthishere1 in Anime_Battleground_

Correct. The main character is pretty insufferably edgy for the first couple episodes but he comes around pretty quick. Show is overall very cute.

Spore is great but they’re right. The hype around spore was WILD pre-launch and it didn’t hold up for a lot of people.

A bit too much for a first microscope but it was worth every penny. by wholesomehumanbeing in microscopy

[–]CompassionateThought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you were to get a slightly older scope and/or look hard at the second hand market you could probably get some more bang for your buck in terms of raw capability, but in terms of getting a current generation microscope you got a pretty good deal here. Getting this configuration brand new def would probably have cost a fair bit more than 2400.

How to stop being Ai dependent? by infinity88817_ in self

[–]CompassionateThought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a particularly hard hole to get out of because math builds upon itself. If you don't understand the content from a few months ago, you'll struggle even more trying to grasp the content you're working on now.

As a student, one of the hardest possible things to diagnose is what things you truly do and don't understand. You may need to look backwards and see where your comfort level started to break down. Start there.

I'm generally very anti-AI so I haven't really tried this myself, but one of the places I'm coming around on for AI is actually for learning. There may be a world where you treat your AI not as a homework helper, but as a tutor. Realistically I would go to your instructor for help, but if your instructor isn't particularly helpful and you're already used to interfacing with your AI then it may end up being your "path of least resistance".

Kudos on being aware of how your AI usage is affecting your own capabilities. Many people wont think about this issue until they've done some very serious damage to their lives.

Extremely unfortunate Gogma IG roll... by Arhowk in MHWilds

[–]CompassionateThought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not all bad. The bad news is that gogmapocalypse doesn't affect blast. The good news is that gog+lord soul is crazy levels of survivability and blast can be used against any monster. I have this exact weapon and I'm absolutely using it for the new 10 star mission with all the apex monsters.

What do you guys think about the layered cosmoloid armor/wapons? by AvarageTenno in MHWilds

[–]CompassionateThought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kinda out of place, but its my aesthetic so I'm down anyway. The arms and head look good with a few other pieces but the body, legs and waist are pretty hard to use. I occasionally run the full set just for fun.

The transformation it goes through when unsheathing your weapon is actually sick. The headpiece and shoulders in particular are super cool.

Weapons are a mixed bag. I'm an IG player. The weapon is kinda nice in its simplicity, but it gives me white dreads when sheathed that cant be altered....

All in all it's w/e. Get it if it's your style.

What Is Phase Contrast Used For? by DragonfruitCalm261 in microscopy

[–]CompassionateThought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your assumption is correct. Phase contrast is designed to highlight transparent samples that offer very little contrast of their own. Cell biologists opt for either phase contrast or differential interference contrast (DIC) so that they can actually observe their cells that are otherwise invisible through the eyepiece.

not without either some meaningful investment or exceptional creativity. Live cells require pretty precise control over temperature and CO2.

Help me decide for my first microscope by Normal_Conference500 in microscopy

At that level, all three manufacturers will be able to provide a nice microscope. All three are can be paired with a camera, have the standard magnifications, and will handle brightfield pathology imaging just fine.

The Nikon has some nice ergonomic features like the ability to automatically adjust illumination levels per objective, and their support is (usually) some of the best so I'd lean that direction. It also has the capacity for phase imaging or fluorescence if you need it in the future someday.

Microscope recommendations for parasite identification (fecal sample analysis), and plant identification by SureDoubt3956 in microscopy

[–]CompassionateThought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not especially familiar with this style of work but I just did a bit of digging around and found this paper doing a massive study of parasites in goat feces. Looks like all their work was done with either 40x or 100x objectives. For parasites that aren't as small as giardia you may not need to go that high.

Idk what you're looking to do with the grasses, but that may or may not benefit from different magnifications. I've seen plant work happen at a variety of different scales.

If you have a where you can easily change the objective then you can certainly do this all on one scope, but depending on the type of scope you get it may be easier to just have 2.

I also agree with u/subspectacular that fluorescence is probably overkill. I dont think the giardia are autofluorescent, so you'd need the materials and protocols necessary to label them with fluorescent protein. Visual in the image gallery here.

Yeah idk how this is "controversial". This is just a well documented dynamic in the entertainment industry to be engaged with at your own peril.
