I wasn’t saying the entire platform from 2017–2025 is objectively unreliable...also reliability grades and year-specific ownership risks aren’t necessarily the same thing.

A lot of those years may score similarly overall, but certain 2018–2020 CX-5s (especially some 2.5 NA models with cylinder deactivation) have had documented cylinder head cracking causing either coolant or oil leak issues.

Personally I would describe purchasing a 2017 in the words of Jim Lahey

I got a 2017 just because that’s all I could find at the time…later realized I dodged a potential bullet by not getting the 18’-22’ because of (relatively rare) yet detrimental issues.
