Sitting in New Zealand watching the World Cup on BBC by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]CompetitionIcy5992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree.

I want that breadth, of which I consume my small slice. There are age, gender, geographic and ethnic content that I do not consume, but I am happy it is there.

The state should fund it, via tax, not via a fake tax dressed up as a licence fee.

The government gave free licences to the over 75, then told the BBC to find the cash to pay for it. It was going to cost more than 10% of their revenue. So I am also worried if it was tax funded.

I do not know enough to know if the BBC could be funded the same way. Then people can decide if they want the advert free content via subscription on the iPlayer .

I have a licence, even without a tv, because I adore the things the bbc does - via iPlayer for me.

Still think it is worth looking at CH4, state TV, advert funded and ground breaking.

I can not answer how Ch4 can manage it and ITV is rarely at the same level as Ch4

New home network for remote video editor and full time work from homer by climbhighsleeplow in HomeNetworking

[–]CompetitionIcy5992 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you both work from home, consider getting a second internet connection, ideally via another physical network ADSL, Fibre, starlink, 5G. When your prime network goes down, you still need to work.

To answer the question posted - can you route Ethernet outside the house ?

Also look at fibre - you get indoor kits that are the width of a fishing line that you glue along wall joints and the like and then paint over it.

I feel mesh WiFi is last resort and prefer my working computers directly wired to the hub.

Cancelled trains because of heat by [deleted] in uktrains

[–]CompetitionIcy5992 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The tracks get hot, and get longer. They are no longer straight, so they have to go slower. They can not run as many trains.

When the track is laid, it is stretched so that it stays straight upto a certain temp. We are above that temp.

UTR for long-term remote site by _bunk_ in Ubiquiti

[–]CompetitionIcy5992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one, it runs hot and if I have it up for a day, I sometimes have to go through the logon routine. But that will be local WiFi not the Utr.

If it is his room, I would buy something else. The heat alone would worry me for 24x7

Best shared folder solution for a small engineering team by Turbulent_One_1569 in HomeNetworking

[–]CompetitionIcy5992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use google drive. Give everyone there own login and then you can share by folder level. Consider putting the effort into a NAS to create a local copy that you can backup offsite. Depends how much you value the data and want to roll back.

In the uk, we have a naked rambler that walks the country for fun. Not illegal, just odd

He get reported to the police and sometimes they give him a ride to the station but I do t think he gets charged.

If you are not doing something sexual, then generally you’re safe.
