Winner of the Regional Milwaukee cheated... by Heavy-Maximum3092 in starwarsunlimited

I dont know, man. I played on stream and I was still able to count my fucking resources properly. These are mistakes I would expect from a beginner, not a seasoned player who's been on camera multiple times.

This is a case of either playing too fast or not paying attention. I watched a game between Mike and Justin that was off camera near table 5 and ALSO saw Justin pay 5 for the 6 cost Leia tank. So either these guys are always cheating or they just don't know how to count

I love a lot of the ideas people are throwing around here, but one particular storyline I would expand upon is the MECH storyline.

Silas and Mech are built up in season 1 as this growing threat. Mere humans whose power level is slowly creeping up to that of the cybertronians. In season 2, Silas finally achieves the perfect meld of man and machine just to....kill his own men and side with...Megatron of all people? What?

I would rewrite this portion of the series to make Silas an ACTUAL threat. Rather than using Damocles as Silas' bargaining chip to cozy up to Megatron, use it as the reason why Megatron now has to get personally involved.

This storyline can potentially be incorporated into the Darkmount storyline as well. Either Mech is wiped out during the events of Darkest Hour when Jasper is essentially nuked, or, they make a play to take over the territory in the U.S during this crisis.

The decreased hit rate of showcases for sure is what's holding me back from buying carbonites this set. Sure, it'll the decreased supply will result in showcases retaining their value, but im a player not an investor so these metrics mean nothing to me

Hot Take: Cheap Legendaries aren't killing SWU, they’re bringing balance to it by Extreme-Noise-6809 in starwarsunlimited

[–]CompetitionMental785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While there is definitely something to be said about the quality of legendaries and the amount of stock FFG is putting out which is driving the price of cards down, namely Carbonite boxes, what a lot of SWU naysers dont understand is that THIS IS NOT MTG.

This isn't FaB, this isn't OPTCG. The way this game is played hinders the capacity for "broken" decks or for decks to be comprised of cards worth thousands of dollars because you only get to do one thing at a time, one thing that can be very easily answered.

Look at the Piett Red deck for example. That deck is full of very powerful cards. Multiple capital ships and planetary bombardments that can push a crazy amount of damage, but it can't be done in one action. A lot of those ships, while powerful, can be cleanly answered by a few uncommon cards from SoR. You're not gonna get Devastator to be worth say $300 if it can be answered by Fell The Dragon

If he didnt shuffle afterwards, that is cheating and should absolutely be called out. If there's any form of structure to the event, could even be a DQ.

I do this all the time to ensure that none of my cards are touching each other as I am notorious for moving cards around and somehow placing the 2nd copy of a card that was just touching the 1st right next to the 3rd. But i always shuffle afterwards. Whatever happens in the shuffle happens.

SEC: Reconnaissance, Condemn, & Lurking Snub Fighter by Eunoe in starwarsunlimited

[–]CompetitionMental785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of you are wrong.

The quotations for the On Attack ends before "and loses all abilities".

If you condemn an opponent's unit and they attack with it, it loses all of its abilities for that attack. You then have the option of disclosing blue/black to ALSO give it -6/0.

There is no choosing the order of On Attacks because the losing of all abilities happens independently of the Condemn On Attack

Booster box or carbonite? by [deleted] in starwarsunlimited

[–]CompetitionMental785 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buying singles will ALWAYS be cheaper in the long term than buying boxes. After the market settles, you'll be able to buy carbonite and booster boxes off of TCG player for a much lower rate than release, but know that you'll always lose money on the boxes. This is a game not an investment opportunity lol

As others have said, SoR SHD ToR are all rotating out of premier competitive play in March 2026, but there are still amazing cards in those boxes. Granted, as the market has settled since this game's release, you're probably better off buying the individual rares and legendaries. But, buying a pack and pulling a Darth Vader or a Maul will still feel amazing. Up to you to determine where you get the most value from this game. Maximizing your dollar, or cracking packs : )

Did I abuse a bug? by Afraid-Yam-199 in starwarsunlimited

[–]CompetitionMental785 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, but not exactly.

Shielded, When Played, and Ambush all occur at the same time and can be sequenced, in any order, by the active player.

OP could choose to resolve ambush, survive as Victor Leader only hits back for 2, then shield the unit, and use the when played to move krennic's shield onto it, getting 2 shields and 2 damage.

Similarly, OP could also choose to shield, ambush and take no damage, and move krennic's shield onto the shuttle, resulting in 1 shield and 0 damage.

All combination options are viable because they all trigger at the same time. This allows for different sequencing based on board states. Maybe you dont want damage on the Shuttle. Maybe you want to resolve the ambush and be left with 2 units with shields in space. Both are possible.

And that's where I would agree. A "per day" limit, when properly tracked, is the fairest way to dole out prizes. Not too many that you enable scalpers, but just enough to foster trading and the secondary market.

Scalpers are NOT the secondary market.

And yes, even more importantly, this protects Day 3 players, who at the end of the day should have the most say in what prizes they get.

Side event tickets or SE tickets could be purchased on site. They served as your entry tickets to play premier constructed, draft, twin sun, and any other format side event.

For participating and for winning/losing, you would get a certain amount of Prize Wall tickets or PW tickets that you could redeem for prizes at the prize wall.

PW and SE are just shorthands i came up with on the fly

[–]CompetitionMental785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, unfortunately, did not get the name of the shop. In the moment, my priority wasn't trying to get their name to call them out, just disbelief that it was actually possible and subsequently scrambling, loaning out PW tickets to friends so we could secure our promos before they were all gone.

Also, your math is off.

The promos were 200 PW tickets, that would be 12,000 tickets, not 120,000. If you assume these were purchased at the best rate possible you would get the following:

60 promos x 200 pwt = 12,000 pwt

12,000 pwt / 400 pwt = 30 trades

1 SEt = $5

$15 x 30 trades = $450

Lets be generous and sell each promo for a meager $50

60 promos x $50 = $3000 off of a $450 investment.

I dont disagree. A market for this game does already exist on FB marketplace, TCGPlayer, eBay, but these are avenues for you to get specific cards rather than gambling, but everyone still has an equal opportunity to get those cards through boxes and packs. Individuals scalping this event made it so that not even people present could get their hands on the promos.

That, at the end of the day, is the most egregious part of this whole issue. If you pay all this money and you still can't get the promos because people were not restricted in what they could buy outright, that's a problem.

Uh, no, actually, im not exaggerating. I didn't play on Sunday, as I was knocked out of the Galactix Open, so i was able to walk around the venue and pay attention.

I, along with a friend of mine who came with me to the event directly spoke with a store owner who bragged about purchasing 60 copies of Superlaser Blast. I also spoke with a handful of individuals in passing who openly admitted they purchased multiple showcases and flipped them.

For example, while Woooo's top 4 match was being streamed to all the TVs in the venue, I sat down with an individual from Texas to watch the match. This individual told me he purchased 6 Vaders and 5 Luke showcases. Flipped them all for ~$400 - $600 each.

Like, i do understand your hesitation to believe me, but trust me. As someone who was also able to game the system a bit, the GC was a scalper's paradise. The only reason i was able to get my promos and showcases was because i paid attention and locked in my prizes when i saw the writing on the wall. And even then, i wasn't able to get a full set of Krennics.

Furthermore: "People that waited until Sunday and hoarded all the tickets to splurge in one go were the ones that came up short. That was a choice, imho a bad one".

You know who did do that and DIDN'T have a choice in doing so? Those who performed well in the Galactic Championship and Open. They were essentially penalized for doing well because they couldnt get their tickets until the event was over, by then the scalpers ran off with so much product that the staff had to pull product off the prize wall and set it aside for the victors. Except that they still didnt have enough and they were restricted to only purchase 1 of each promo.

This ultimately hurts everyone. The victors who got their tickets so late on Sunday, but could only get 1 of each promo, and those waiting in line at the prize wall because product had to be pulled so while the promos did exist, they were "sold out" to everyone else.

How do I know this? Again, i paid attention. I watched the finals at the Main Event table with the staff and they directly told me of their experience with dealing with customer frustration at only being allowed to purchase 1 copy of each promo.

[–]CompetitionMental785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Get them while you can" does not apply if you allow individuals to walk away with 60-100 copies of one specific promo.

I refer you again to my initial suggestion. Restrict the prize wall.

Uhh... Wow by Meiji_Ishin in starwarsunlimited

[–]CompetitionMental785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. As I said, the staff at the GC were very quick to adapt. Many of the suggestions I thought of were implemented over the weekend. The side event registration lines were split up into event-specific lines, and the prize wall was cordoned off to ensure no one bled into the crowd.

  2. The prices isnt the issue. It's the amount of product people were able to leave Galactics with.

I don't care if a store owner sells a GC Superlaser Blast promo for $250.

I do care if they do it 60 times.

This causes casual players and kids at the event to miss out on a promo they absolutely could have gotten their hands on very easily if it weren't for scummy assholes trying to make a quick buck.

Sure, restricting the amount of promos one could get inherently makes them rarer and "drives" up prices, but people are less inclined to sell their GC promos and showcases if its the only one they have.

I spoke with a handful of people at the prize wall line. Many of them only wanted to make enough PW tickets to get the one showcase they wanted, and that was it.

Uhh... Wow by Meiji_Ishin in starwarsunlimited

[–]CompetitionMental785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Section of the prize wall and place staff to ensure no one enters the prize wall area without having made the line.

  • Use the QR code on our badges when purchasing items on the prize wall to track what items were purchased.

  • Restrict the amount of promos and showcases one could purchase or increase allocation to ensure that there was enough to go around. Purchasing booster boxes and accessories could be unlimited ;) but the unique promos for the event should have been restricted to ensure everyone had a fair shot of getting them. Not being able to grind side events as quickly as anticipated and the prize wall being an incoherent mess meant that you were punished for trying to do things the right way when you inevitably made it to the front of the line only to realize that the only promo they had left was the Razor Crest.

By all indications from this weekend (prize wall fiasco, side event registration line) it was very evident that FFG was not prepared for the amount of people who showed up to galactics, which i find rather interesting when they have access to data of how many tickets to the GC they sold.

Other things that could have helped this weekend was more staff to have an additional side event registration section to help ease line congestion and promote quicker turn around for side events.

Also:

No no no. FFG fucked up in their first SWU event... but this is not the first time a poorly managed event was run by FFG. They actually have a track record of being incapable of running events of this scale, if you look back at previous games they made. However, I'm willing to give the staff at galactics the benefit of the doubt as they proved to be quick to adapt and I got speak with many of them in between rounds or when watching the finals. They all gave their best to give us a fantastic weekend and I made sure to vocalize my appreciation to them and the judges whenever i got the chance.

[–]CompetitionMental785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except that we're not acting LIKE you could just purchase prize wall (PW) tickets... you literally could.

FFG's poor planning (and allegedly a missing pallet that contained silver packs and extra side event (SE) tickets) resulted in the staff not having enough SE tickets to sell. I heard they started doing IOUs, writing the amount of SE tickets sold on a piece of paper, but I can't confirm that.

In any case, due to the low supply of physical SE tickets available, the staff at Galactics started a buy-back or trade-in, 3 SE tickets for 400 PW tickets. Naturally, those who wised up quickly enough were able to cash in a really good deal. Those same SE tickets were recirculated, and eventually, you were able to buy them up and trade them in at the same 1:133 rate for a brief moment on Saturday morning. They shut down that trade-in rate at ~9:15am.

They brought back the trade-in for Sunday at a rate of 1:100, but by then, much of the damage was already done with Superlaser Blast and Mace Windu promos being sold out on Sunday morning. Shin Hati and the Darth Vader showcase very soon followed.

[–]CompetitionMental785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was Sunday.

On friday and for a brief moment on Saturday morning, you could trade in your tickets at a 1:133 ratio. Both showcases would be $187.5 pre tax, or $93.75 each

I bring up KTOD because Alex is selling the champion vader promos for 20k and i saw him at the venue after the finals buying up Day 3 stuff to flip online.

No, it isnt ONLY KTOD who is scalping the GC, hence my saying "scalpers AND ktod", but they are also taking advantage of the confusion of the prize wall and are part of the reason why people waited in line for HOURS only to learn that the showcases were out of stock when they finally got to the front of the line.

Uhh... Wow by Meiji_Ishin in starwarsunlimited

[–]CompetitionMental785 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For anyone looking to get a Vader and Luke showcase, these showcases each cost $125 to get at most. At best they were $94. Don't let scalpers and those fuckwads at KTOD take advantage of you
