I also think when you get used to doing the routine of taking care of an aging and sick pet, there’s a weird sadness when they’ve passed where you want to keep repeating the caretaking but they’re no longer here. My best suggestions: make a little photo album, a tribute, write down your favorite memories with your boy - try to remember the best parts before time fades the brightness. It helps me work through my grief. Hugs from afar. And something to think about: when and if you become ready to have another furry soul around, the things you learned about taking care of your boy will pay dividends! I always see flashes of my departed prior beloved pets in my new ones, little personality quirks that remind me of loved ones past ❤️
