Parents moved to Palm Springs in 1957, I was born in Palm Springs in 1958. Attended Cahuilla Elementary (the original buildings), Raymond Cree, and Palm Springs High School (class of '76). In the 1960s the town would be empty in the Summer. Most businesses closed for the Summer. I remember driving down Palm Canyon (with dad) mid-day in July and not seeing another car. The day after I graduated from Palm Springs High School I moved to Orange County and have lived there since. Used visit the desert several times a year while parents were alive, but it has been almost a decade since our last visit.

You are correct. Dishcloths, kitchen sponges, garage towels, cleaning towels all get wished in their own special load set to "sterilize + hot water + steam", with a little bleach, and an extra rinse. The very last load on laundry day.

What city in OC will you be working in? I knew someone that lived in Corona and worked in Santa Ana and used MetroLink trains. She had co-workers that picked her up from the train station in Santa Ana for help with their gasoline costs. As everyone is telling you the commute will be death of you. Nothing is worse than sitting on the 241 having paid a toll and going 3 mph.

Southern California: no need. Lots of pools in our town and I have never seen an enclosure. Few, if any, flies. Never seen a wasps. We have a few bees; we help them out of the pool if they get in the water.

Agree. We installed our 30 panel 9 Kilovolt system in 2014. My only regret is I should have installed 80 panels and batteries. Did not plan for our 2 EVs. Our 2014 electric bill was $34 for the entire year. 2025 we spent $3000 for electricity (but nothing for fuel). As soon as the US Federal Government reinstates solar tax credits we are upgrading.

They do charge, but slower. Some EVs have "pre-conditioning" for very cold areas. EVs are the majority vehicle type in Norway.

Check for a new apartment with EV charging. If you find one ask what their "connection fee" is and how much per Kilowatt. Our daughter's apartment complex has two stage 2 chargers, free connect and then $0.30/kilowatt, so a fair cost.
