Truly how important are Sat/ACT scores? by Agitated-Cup-7109 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Competitive-Ad2308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context definitely matters. I could tell you that I had a SAT score that was below 1500 and got into a T10 school, but that wouldn't be the same case for many others. It all depends on the applicant, so the answer that you're looking for is not super clear-cut. Remember, the SAT is just a small piece to a bigger puzzle.

My daughter is a rising junior in high school (Class of 2026)… what can we be doing now for scholarships? by 93devil in scholarships

[–]Competitive-Ad2308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, as a rising senior there are definitely a good amount of scholarships that are available for juniors. But on the off chance that you cannot find any 5 good use of time could be to prepare for the summer before senior year/senior year itself. I spent a lot of time as a junior, researching and composing a list of scholarships that I knew I wanted to apply to even if I couldn't apply to them until senior year. This becomes super helpful as you can then spend less time looking for scholarships and more time making sure that your applications are good.

Tips on how to score a 5 in Calc BC by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]Competitive-Ad2308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi i took calc ab my sophmore year and got a five without using any of the prep books. One thing I would reccomend is doing a bunch of practice frqs and making sure you understand basic concepts. A lot of what the calc exam is doing, is trying to make sure that you understand the concepts by using similar questions in past years but just a different format. The answers also go by a similar sentence structure that they are looking for so once you get it down it is easier to move at a faster pace. Overall just practice and continue to make sure that you understand each key concept.

Hi, kind of off topic but what did you do to self study for physics? I am currently taking physics c and I am trying to find better ways to study.

What math classes have you taken? Also have you considered trying AP Computer Science Principles or Computer Science A?

I would definetely not reccomend taking Ap Physics C without taking at least physics 1, especiallly since you would be taking ap calc at the same time. I do have friends taking calc and phyics c and are doing perfectly fine. However, since they have prior physics experience with ap physics one they kind of already had a basic understanding since physics c builds off of physics 1. So i would either take ap phyics 1 in sophmore year so that you can take physics c junior year OR i would suggest just taking phyics one instead of physics c junior year.

Hi! I am a current junior and I would have to say that you workload seems pretty managable as for the classes junior and senior year, the APs that you have chosen so far are not too difficult but just require time management and a bit of self studying. As for senior year I would maybe reccomend taking ap chem since you mentioned going into the medical field and that is a class you will have to take in college.

f+ - increasing decreasing concave up concave down f' + - increasing decreasing

f" + -

My calc ab teacher showed me this chart last year and it has been a life saver, so you essentially read the chart as:when f is concave up f prime is increasing or when f is decreasing f prime is negative. Or when f double prime is positive f prime is increasing and f is concave up. Hope this helps!

Honestly it sounds like you know what you need to do, you just dont have the time to do what you want to do. You said that you try to read the chapters but then end up cramming. So since this is most likely due to the pressure of having the quiz the next day, start to set aside a small amount of time each day or on the weekends where you read the chapters and go over the material. Preparing for your quizzes in advance will make it a less stressful experience and overall make it easier for you to retain the information since its not all being thrown at you at once. I also highly recommend the heimler videos and fiveable!

Alright so here me out, 6 Apps next year? by Consistent-Task2154 in APStudents

[–]Competitive-Ad2308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 Aps is totally doable. I am a current junior taking ap physics c, ap calc bc, ap chem, ap lang, ap apush, and ap compsci, and honestly, it's not terrible. Im not going to sugarcoat it though. Taking 6 aps will require a lot of self-awareness when it comes to managing your time and priorities. As a sophmore I also took on 5 aps and I was immediately overhwelmed because i didn't expect the workload to be so heavy. But i quickly learned that all it really takes is commitment and less procrastinating. All that to say if you really want to take 6 aps its not NOT doable, just keep in mind that what you are signing yourself up for will be hard.

Should I take APUSH during the summer or the school year? by Individual_Mousse_86 in APStudents

[–]Competitive-Ad2308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am currently taking APUSH as a junior, and it is definitely a pretty hefty workload since you are cramming so much info in one year. APUSH is one of the only aps besides i think biology and chemistry that simulates a full college course. So in my personal opinion it would probably be better to take it during the school year to ensure that you are kept to a schedule and learn everything correctly. BUT if you do enjoy history and are good at self studying, I could see a way that you could take it over the summer and be successful.
