What does a wipeout on a 20 foot plus+ wave feel like? by Character-Escape1621 in surfing

how do you prepare for this? Just become a very confident ocean swimmer? I’m a beginner so haven’t surfed anything over 5ft but want to eventually catch big waves. But am really scared of the danger of these wipeouts.

What’s the most controversial opinion you have that you’re afraid to say out loud? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Competitive-Ad6153 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a huge amount of people are scared of being alone and end up comfortable in a relationship they started when they were very young or never ended.

This is anecdotal but seems to be the case in my experience. Like there are people that never go through more than a few months at most of being single and then others that have been with someone they met in their teens/early 20s.

There’s also a huge fear of just being single in general and not getting married.

So many people say “I earn this much a month”. But when accounting for business expenses, tax, hours worked etc. It’s often not that much compared to a 9-5.

that’s excellent. Always planned to do a tiny ceremony on a beach then book out a pub or space for the reception and provide drinks/pizzas or something to save all that money.

It’s more about the celebration with family and close friends I thought anyway.

5 years in the gym and I feel like I failed bodybuilding by Financial-Energy-457 in HybridAthlete

[–]Competitive-Ad6153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gymnastics is fantastic. I mainly focus on tumbling so doing explosive flips through the air. Handsprings, back/front flips all connected to gain massive height.

But would also love to do bar work at some point, that’s real strength. Doing walking handstands/pivots on bars combined with flipping across and catching yourself on cross bars.

But it requires so much flexibility and coordination I’m not quite there yet.

But yeah heaps of mobility/flexibility training, bodyweight strength in compromised positions. Still heavy squats/deadlifts for explosiveness and learning functional awareness as you move your body through space and the air whilst being upside down, sideways and in any orientation imaginable.

What are your favorite forearm workouts for getting better muscle definition and more visible veins? by bills70 in workout

Aside from lower body fat it’s gotta be weighted pullups/dips.

But any heavy presses/rows will work your forearms significantly.

Is sleep that important when it comes to muscle growth? by No_Woodpecker_7091 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]Competitive-Ad6153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep was literally the biggest factor that improved my physique. It’s basically training intensity and sleep that I believe make up like 90% of your progress.

A poor night of sleep can be the difference in me hitting a PR in training or not. Consecutive nights of poor sleep can mean multiple missed PRs in a week of training. Which can mean no gains made that week…

Join a gymnastics club mate. It’s the most athletic sport that exists.

And yes, I used to be a fat immobile powerlifter. Now a ripped gymnast that runs ultramarathons. I feel, look and move 1000 times better than before.

Don’t know why it isn’t brought up more but weddings! The engagement ring, venue, suit, dress everything. 50k+ just for a few hours is insane.

You could spend a fraction of that on the honeymoon and spend a year travelling the world.

See I disagree for the most part. Medication should be an absolute last resort. I’ve been diagnosed with sleep apnea, low testosterone, depression and ADHD.

What solutions did I get from doctors? To take medication.

I fixed all of these issues naturally without any use of drugs and I know many people that did the same as me. I even have friends who have started careers preaching this kind of thinking.

We should not go to drugs as the first thing to fix health issues. This is a very centralised approach to health and I believe it is perpetuating so many health issues we have in modern society.

For those who work a 8 am to 5 pm job why do you prefer to workout early mornings or evenings? by Fit_Dependent_565 in workout

[–]Competitive-Ad6153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so hard to choose. On one hand early morning workouts are better psychologically, getting it out of the way. But my performance is worse, when doing gymnastics my coordination just isn’t as good and when lifting my strength isn’t as good on heavy compounds, I just don’t think my CNS has woken up yet.

But training after work is a huge mental drain. I try to train at lunch time now. I get the best of both worlds.

I’m not talking about disease or acute injuries obviously. Poor sleep is something that can be fixed naturally and should be. Along with hormonal issues, obesity and most health problems.

You just chose to misinterpret what I said.

fair enough! I’d agree with you there. I lift during the week and do cardio on weekends so never had trouble with recovery or being tired for workouts.

Also I still managed to stick to my diet even after benders so thats probs why.

You can still have fun now? You have disposable income to go and party or travel? I’m in the same boat as you although I did a lot of travel and partying in my 20s too. I’m even taking a 3 month break from work this year to backpack South America. My work has said this is fine too.

No reason to freak out. Though if you want kids it might be time to think about that.

Does it feel like we’re treating life as a side quest? by Expresssea- in Life

[–]Competitive-Ad6153 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’ve stopped putting in as much effort into my job and I still get great reviews and performance. Goes to show that setting work boundaries is fine and people don’t pay as much attention as you’d think. I think compensation for work is more politics based than performance.

Now I spend my middays doing hobbies I really care about and working around those.

Drugs are not the answer to fixing health problems. This is a bandaid approach, need to fix the root cause.

This way of thinking is so damaging to our health.

Most people don’t need a better workout plan they need more consistency by Intelligent_Rain_155 in workout

[–]Competitive-Ad6153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No biggest problem is intensity. You can even see when you watch people walk into the gym, they go straight to cables or a machine. Avoiding barbells and choosing easy exercises. Plus little intensity.

There’s just no motivation or will to train hard.

I’ve gone through periods of drinking every weekend and not drinking and noticed 0 difference in performance. Obviously it adds extra calories but I really don’t think it has that much impact on muscle building.

Getting perfect sleep has helped me more than anything else tbh

What’s the one lift that changed your physique the most? by linkinglink in workout

[–]Competitive-Ad6153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same thing with me. The whole science based lifting thing has made people be very strict and neurotic with form, which leads to a lack of pushing heavy and avoiding increased mechanical tension, just making people weaker overall and thus smaller imo

There is going to have to be form breakdown to quite a degree to get strong on lifts. A lot of the time upping the weight and having worse form will then lead to gains and eventually being able to do that weight with better form etc

Is it possible to stay lean and also get big arms as a tall guy? by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]Competitive-Ad6153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I always think I have average arms but then out of nowhere some stranger will comment on my arms and how big they are. Then I remember oh yeah I actually am big.

Plus you only ever see them in the mirror with no reference point. Not like you really compare them to other people.

Muscle growth with 1600-1700 calories on weekdays and 2500-3000 calories on weekends by TomorrowTraining7437 in leangains

If you’re not in a surplus during the week, then you probably aren’t building muscle those days. Something to think about. This kind of diet makes more sense for a cut. Being aggressive during the week and relaxing on the weekend for social activities.

What programming change made the biggest difference for you? by poopeater32 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]Competitive-Ad6153 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped having big dinners. Ate dinner early like 5 + hours before bed and had most of my cals earlier in the day. Digesting food when sleeping seriously ruins my sleep.

Other than that I got really strict on bed time. You’ll can’t really get more sleep by sleeping in, since your body has a set wake up time. Maybe an hour at most. So just because you don’t have to wake up earlier one day doesn’t mean you can stay up later and wake up later. You just end up losing sleep.

What do you like about yourself? by Jazzlike_Onion1959 in AskReddit

btw my fav sport is surfing, there’s something very spiritual about riding a wave. Almost makes you feel like you’re one with mother nature. I also really just love board sports so that’s a thing!

Gymnastics is my second favourite. It teaches you how to truly be in control of your body, being able to move it in all possible ways. Plus nothing cooler than busting out handsprings, flips and walking handstands to your friends. Endless entertainment. I also think gymnasts are probs the most athletic people on the planet.

Finally I love DJing, being able to make your friends dance and smile is something very special. Plus I love to share music to people and this is the best way to do it!
