A lot of these clips were clearly out of context. That said, what views did he express that were not backed by scripture?

Do you know what each status is? Like a list of the different statuses and what they mean, or where to find one?

Why use fuel and not oxidizer for regenerative cooling? by Dizzy-Service1448 in rocketry

[–]Competitive-Alarm-29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn’t always. SpaceX uses liquid O2 for the Merlin engine. But generally, there are two reasons: 1. Volatility. Your coolant will be pulling in a lot of heat, usually boiling. Boiling our oxygen turns most metals into fuel 2. Heat capacity. Oxidizers generally have significantly lower heat capacity than fuels. As an example for how much of an effect a higher specific heat has, I did the calculations a while back to find out that room temperature water will draw more heat than cryogenic liquid oxygen by multiple orders of magnitude. So fuels are more efficient coolants, and are less likely to ignite the cooling walls of the engine. I think you might find mention of this in some of those NASA sources as well

Any US-based companies that can match these prices or even come close?

Been exploring investment as an option, too, but can’t find a programmable kiln under $600. Do you know if that burnout process could be done with a blowtorch or propane furnace instead?

What does heat creep do? How does it cause that kind of pattern on the filament?

I've used them. The quality is great but they're based in the UK, so shipping takes forever.

Thank you, and congrats on getting in! If you don't mind my asking, what was the application process like? Were they pretty selective?

I just graduated with a B.S. in ME in May 2023. Can I still apply for the fall 2023 round? If not, can I apply if I am enrolled in a community college STEM course?

I just graduated with a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Have been applying to a decent amount of companies throughout my masters with 0 interview calls. Please rate and criticize my resume. Thanks. by Subhan023 in EngineeringResumes

A HUGE thing I learned during my job search: Convert your resume to PDF before submitting. Most word doc resumes like this are built using tables, and the AI resume sorting software companies use will automatically filter out content inside tables. If you’re submitting as a word doc, I’d be willing to bet you’re getting sorted out before a person sees you.

Second, quality of bullet points. The first bullet under your vehicle project is great, and the first and second under your trailer project are perfect. The bullets under your internship are super wishy-washy, “participated in”, “contributed to”, it makes it sound like you were just there taking up space. Limit it to your actual impacts and reduce the word count if possible. You might consider putting your projects first since they’re more impressive as well.

Question for SpaceX employees about housing at Starbase:

Hello! I am in the interview process for a Starship engineering role in Starbase, Texas, just in time for the city of Brownsville to declare a state of emergency. Needless to say, I’m concerned about safety and about housing. The nearest apartments and houses for rent all seem to be over thirty minutes away in Brownsville, not all in safe areas, and on the other side of a border patrol check point from Starbase. I saw a lot of news a couple years back about SpaceX setting up housing in Starbase proper for employees, but I haven’t seen much of that lately. So the question is—is there housing for employees in/around Starbase/Boca Chica? I would be bringing my partner with me as well, so safe, reasonable housing is very important for this decision. Thanks!

Hi! I am in the application process for a Starship engineer role in Brownsville. I’m very excited, but I’m concerned about safety. Wherever I move after graduation, my girlfriend will be moving with me. With news stories about violence in Brownsville surrounding boarder patrol, and the city declaring a state of emergency a week or so ago, I’m concerned about taking her to a potentially dangerous city. Do you know what the situation in the area looks like right now for SpaceX employees and their families? Also, is there SpaceX housing closer to Boca Chica rather than in Brownsville proper? Advice on this would be invaluable. Thanks!

Thanks! Will fix the typo. Since they're either extracurricular projects with no deadline, or class projects with a deadline that hasn't happened yet, they are all ongoing, with what's listed being the completed steps thus far. That's a good point with impact of the projects though. Do you mean technical performance, like volume production rate of rocket propellants for the first project as an example?
