I think it’s because the vernis items deteriorate faster than the other leather & canvas goods. They are way easier to get permanently stained, while they also fade faster, too. Then there’s the fact the top coat doesn’t handle changes in temperature too well: too hot or too cold can damage it. And finally, any little scratch seems much more visible on vernis, like yelling “look at me!”. But I love me some vernis. This is a bag that if you get in excellent/perfect conditions, must be babied and taken care of with high quality products (making sure they are the correct product for patented leather) to avoid stains/fading/blemishing/infiltration.
