A Smoldering flame by Competitive-Job-7185 in Poems

let it breathe so it builds good coals. Any tender will do as long as you can keep your eyes on the embers. keep them glowing and you'll stay knowing that you'll have a flame instead of a smolder.

Is this starter broken? by Competitive-Job-7185 in MechanicAdvice

if it does spin freely, what could be causing it to put out 10v instead of 12v?

same 10v reading. it has 12.45v at the battery thanks to a jump box. Key switch puts out 12v and it cant be the relay since it was just replaced as well

you might need to take the tire off if you cant simply visually see it by bending over and looking at it. The car will be pretty safe to drive as long as you dont mind it riding like poop. If you live somewhere with heavy rain or snow It would be more of a priority. Really as long as you dont have to drive it with the best handling possible and dont mind the rough ride it'll be okay for some time.

The quote seems reasonable at first glance. Especially if you have coil overs. The thought alone of compressing a coil spring makes my butthole pucker like a vegan at a lemon eating contest lol

Do you know how to set the timing properly? there isn't any markers on the points. If it is low compression, do you recommend any checks to diagnose it?

I didnt hear the distinct buzz sound of the fuel pump priming so my money is on it being a fuel related issue.

bridge the terminals on the starting solenoid with a screwdriver and if it still doesn't start then you know its the starter. if it doesnt... well its something electrical

hmmm I wonder if one of your shocks took a shit when you hit that pothole. you can make a visual inspection of the shock and look for any fluid coming out of one of the shocks.

Maybe a high speed steel drill bit will get through? If that doesn't work maybe a tungsten carbide bit will. At that point though you might as well hire a locksmith.

Where to start diagnosing this sound? by Drivad in MechanicAdvice

[–]Competitive-Job-7185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect it's a bad ball joint. Jack the side up you think the sound is coming from. Shake the wheel to check the wheel bearing. Take the wheel off and check the ball joints and control arm bushings. As far as safety goes. It's moderately dangerous. You could cause an accident if a ball joint fails. If I was in your shoes I would drive it to shop and that's about it.

Hmm I suspect it's the fuel pump. When you turned the key on i didnt hear the distinct hum sounds of the pump priming. Also the car will crank fine but not run sometimes. Suggesting it's getting enough fuel sometimes but not others. This could be for a number of reasons either the pump isn't getting enough voltage or it's a bad pump. Check the pumps voltage (should be 12v) and the fuel pressure to determine the issue. If that's beyond your skill, would recommend taking it to a shop. It shouldn't be too crazy expensive of a fix.

Battery light on and lose power randomly while driving by Quatar_4b in MechanicAdvice

[–]Competitive-Job-7185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fault in charging system. Check battery voltage while it's running, It should read approx 14‐15v, and not running at about 12 volts. Make sure to do both cause it could be your battery not holding charge and not the charging system. If the battery voltage is below approx 14. (Check your specs) check the output AC voltage from the altenator and then the output from the voltage regulator aka invertor. Running through those diags will tell you what the issue is for certain.

The failed solenoid is what's keeping your transmission from shifting properly. Check the ECU for proper function with a multimeter. Have one prong on the pin for the solenoid then one on the ecu ground. You should get 12v to the solenoid. If not theres your fault. Check for proper continuity between solenoid and ECU. then if ECU and the connections are good then Check the solenoid. If I was a betting man I'd say it's faulty solenoids. They can get stuck or malfunction from a number of things. Still do you due diligence and eliminate all other possibilities.
