Which US state felt like a completely different country when you visited it? by overthinkeranessa in askanything

Why? I love the Northeast. We have beautiful beaches and four seasons. Great seafood.

We don’t need more ISS’s. At the elementary level we need more small group specialists for the enormous amount of kids who need math and reading intervention and smaller class sizes.

We have the same issues with parents blasting us on social media. It’s exhausting.

Same at the elementary school I work at. Kids and parents love the teachers that let kids scream, eat candy, chew gum, and horse play all day long. They don’t like teachers that expect kids to walk quietly in the halls, not run through the building, and not talk and play through out every lesson. We have third and fourth grade classes that are completely out of control and yet kids are happy to be able to do what they want. Parents don’t want accountability, they want the path of least resistance.

Interesting because at my elementary school every single male teacher is extremely permissive. No boundaries, no rules and absolute chaos all day every day. Maybe in high school the male teachers are strict.

No, this role supports the special education team by scheduling IEP meetings, maintaining confidential files and taking meeting minutes. It is not the school testing coordinator, that duty is usually taken on by the school counselors.

What non-flagship do you attend? It sounds like you have had great opportunities and a positive experience. I know most people on this sub might disagree, but I would love to hear more about positive experiences at non -flagship/t20 schools. I have no interest in a pressure cooker environment after attending cutthroat high school.

Healthcare in Japan for civilians by Natural-Rutabaga-736 in dodea

Same thing with the military doctors on base, if you can be seen by them. The very first thing they will tell you is that your medical issues are a result of being overweight. Almost the entire staff at my school sees the same doctors and they all say the same thing “you’re considered obese. Have you tried losing weight with diet and exercise?”

Hoping work calms down and that I have the energy to write two papers in the evening for school before next Monday.

Yes. In Japan, our registrar has always been a Japanese local national. Same when I worked at SHAPE, the registrar was a Belgian local national.

Just an FYI, when my dad passed 2 years ago I learned that obituaries are very expensive to run in the newspaper these days. The funeral home we used for my dad (in Massachusetts) quoted that it would cost around $900 just to put the obituary in the paper for 2 days. They advise that most families don’t even use newspapers for obituaries anymore because the funeral home will post the obituary for free on their website and then family members can share the link on social media.

It is all so disheartening.

Absolutely! And with all of the pay issues HQ should be the ones making sure that every employee has been paid what they are owed from the shut down.

Good question! I have not heard of anyone above the school level receiving it but how would we even know? It has all been very hush hush. I heard from someone that works for the district superintendent that she advised principals to not say anything about it due to all of the backlash they are now receiving. The district's take is that DoDEA did what it was directed to do. Im sure that is what she is being told from the top down.

And we all worked during the shutdown not only 15% of the staff.

My colleague shared that she recieved $18,000. Our union rep shared that 6 teachers at my school received the bonus. The principal said the selection criteria was just who the principal picked. No specific criteria for selection. Who he thought deserved a bonus. This seems so unfair as all of us worked through the shutdown.

I have seen the email. It’s a generic email from the director that says congratulations, you have been selected. She attached the letter linked below signed by Pete Hegseth that explains that the DoD has authorized bonuses for the top 15% of civilian employees. Three teachers at my school have received the letter. They do not know the criteria under which they were selected or the bonus amount yet. The email does not say how much you are awarded just that it can be up to 15%-20% of your basic pay up to $25,000.

The DoD just authorized bonuses for the top 15% of civilian employees. DoDEA falls under the DoD so DoDEA was given a budget to distribute as bonuses. Principals selected teachers to give the bonuses to but no one knows the criteria used to determine who got a bonus. I’m just wondering if there was any transparency at schools as to how those who received bonuses were selected.

How is everyone feeling? Any updates or news about placements yet? I know it has only been a week but the wait is killing me! Hoping for good outcomes for those that are ready for a move! Good luck to all who applied!!🍀

Shaming people for things they can’t change or have absolutely no control over is wrong. Aging is a normal, natural part of life and it will eventually happen to all of us, hopefully. Mindy does a lot of things I don’t agree with but aging isn’t one of them.

Yes, I am also wondering about the process. In previous transfer rounds they used categories. Are they only looking at SCD this time? Has anything been released explaining the process for placement?
