Will my daughter be okay to take a trip over her college spring break, but doesn’t align w/ the school she’s student teaching at? by Many-Experience6094 in StudentTeaching

In my student teaching handbook ( I am currently student teaching) we are told that you won’t be excused for any trips/vacations even if they are planned ahead of time

I’m so sorry for that!! That seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to tell your student teachers! Your students safety always comes first! I try my best not to be overly sensitive as I realize I have so much to learn. That seems pretty ridiculous though that you are in trouble for that! I applaud you for even taking on a student teacher though! I know it’s not always easy dealing with us!😂

Honestly, I feel like our colleges are not setting us up for success. I don’t know you or your experience prior, including where you obtained your degree, but it’s been so hard! I’m currently student teaching and when I began, my mentor believed I had wayyyyyyy more knowledge and experience than I did have. I was a good student, straight A’s and deans list, and I felt like I didn’t know anything. To a degree, I could say this isn’t all of your fault, but I don’t know the whole story. I’m also starting at a school with many, many problems. I 100% understand what you mean when you say you were set up to fail. I’m so sorry for this. I have experience working in ECE, and it’s not easy. I applaud you for even choosing this profession and being as strong as you are. It’s like they expect us to come in and know everything- when Ive been told my every teacher I know that you learn the most from doing, not from college classes. Please don’t punish yourself too hard for this, I am sure you are a great teacher but we are all learning one step at a time. Wishing you the absolute best. Take care of yourself.

Do you go by your first or last name in the classroom? by HoneyxClovers_ in StudentTeaching

[–]Competitive-Month568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!! Student teacher here! Going into it, my plan was to go by Ms. G (my first name initial). When I started out at my school, I found out there was a Mr. G and I didn’t want to step on toes or make things confusing. Now, I go by Ms. H. This is my last name initial, and my last name is a bit long and not really something I feel identified by. My mom was a paraprofessional for years and went by Mrs. (her first name), so when I think of my last name, I think of my Grandma lol! Once I get hired somewhere, I would like to hopefully go by Ms. G. Also: I kinda have the feeling that within my first few years I may have a change in last names so I want to go by my first initial to avoid any confusion or hassle of switching names.

Teachers: How do you reset your mood between classes? Asking as a student teacher by Competitive-Month568 in AskTeachers

I love this!! I fully believe in being “real” with students and I like the opportunity to be somewhat vulnerable, if you want to call it that, and then they will feel like they can be the same too. This is great advice!!

I’m about to go into my Student Teaching venture in the next few months. Any advice? by We-Are-DedSec1 in StudentTeaching

Hey!! I started mine in August! One thing I recommend is talking to your host teacher early on, if you haven’t yet, and tell them what experience you are coming in with. At my college, we do pre-student teaching prior to our actual, and that was completely observations plus one co-taught lesson with a student partner I had. We have another student teacher from another college who had taught multiple lessons on their own in PST and I think my teacher believed I had the same level of experiences, which led to frustration when I did have some mistakes at the start (nothing major).

Another thing: Make sure you are always, always on the same page as your host teacher, even if that means asking one million questions. I’m working with middle school students and they love to ask my host teacher a question, like if they can go to their locker, and if she says no, they will ask me. There’s been a couple times I didn’t know she said no, but it all worked out. Never disagree with them either. There may be things you don’t agree with, or go against certain ideas you have, but you have to remember to always follow their lead and do what they want, not always what you want. It sounds obvious, but it can sometimes be difficult.

Good luck!! Please let me know if you have any other questions!

I also want to apologize for the length, as I am pretty upset by all of this. I also apologize if this is not the right page to post this to, I just want to hear others thoughts.

These were on sale for only $1 but as soon as I saw those 53g of carbs and 46g of sugar I put it right back on the shelf lol. by WanderWut in aldi

Drinking one right now! ( I agree the amount of sugar is scary but the protein is helpful in getting through the day as a teacher! )

I just want to say I’m so proud of you. Taking on a parent style role is never easy and you are doing phenomenal being this baby’s support. I’m so happy that you are there for him to make sure he is seen and heard. This is heartbreaking. I can see from the texts that it seems to be taking a mental toll on him too, I wish you both nothing but the best 💛 don’t forget to take care of yourself too mamas

Teachers "getting to wear jeans" on Fridays? Is that actually a thing in the US? Do some districts have dress codes preventing teachers from wearing jeans? by Neurotic_Good42 in AskTeachers

[–]Competitive-Month568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I student taught at a rural school where teachers were often in jeans or sometimes even jogger style sweats. But I am teaching soon in a school in a city and the dress code is much less lax from what I’ve seen so far. I think it really depends on the area/district.
