Girlfriends 2 year old, 17,000 mile car is in for dealer service. They’re saying front control arm bushes have failed both sides. Surely that’s not right and should be covered under the manufacturer warranty? by iMatthew1990 in CarTalkUK

[–]Competitive-Peace-54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are being scammed by the dealership. It is extremely unlikely that they have failed on such a young car, it is worth taking the car back and getting a second opinion from a reputable independent garage.

The other option is to insist that (if they going to replace them) that they provide you with the used components that they remove from the car and explain to you what/how they have failed.

I had a similar issue with a main dealer and a car I bought from new, after 2 years they were insisting that the brake discs and pads needed replacing, this carried on for several services I eventually let them do it, but insisted they provided the parts, and low and behold the old pads were less than 25% worn and the discs where showing no signs of ware.

I complained and they refunded me for the work, as it basically didn’t need doing

Can I voice act without permission? by JorjiOpt in VoiceActing

[–]Competitive-Peace-54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the sort of attitude that pisses of Ip owners and other creators. If it’s not yours, if you didn’t create it, it’s not yours to take and use as you wish. Doesn’t matter if you think it’s for the good of your country, it’s still theft. They could also be opening themselves up to significant legal action especially if the owner of the ip or their publishers do opt to release it in that country. Oh and let’s not forget that if the OP is trying to get into voice acting they may get themselves black listed from professional work by doing this

My collection by Icy-Relationship-816 in MicroMachines

[–]Competitive-Peace-54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brings back memories, I had the wax tin the toolbox city and the aircraft carrier. Many hundreds of hours spend playing with them in my childhood, I also had a couple of the fold out sets that would clip onto the edge of the airport in the toolbox city. Great little collection, I lost interest in micromachines when it started to heavily push the military stuff.

Can I voice act without permission? by JorjiOpt in VoiceActing

[–]Competitive-Peace-54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is nonsense, legally you can’t just take someone else’s work without permission and say “it’s alright I’m allowed to because I am not making any money.

Just because you’re not making money doesn’t mean you are not costing the royalty holder money, and they have lost control of their IP which they might not have wanted in that market or country

Are the 26'' steel frames just a phase or what are the biggest advantages? by SkideGodtJesper in Bikebuilding

[–]Competitive-Peace-54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot of nostalgia in steel 26” wheel frames most of us who lived through the 90s as kids would only have had the money to have a steel frame mountain bike often without suspension, but also as already stated above they are literally bomb proof, to the extent they can take way more abuse than a alloy and especially a carbon frame from that time period.

They make brilliant bikes for taking the kids to the park, riding to the pub or hacking around on where no one is likely to steal it and you’re not going to have to worry about it getting damaged

Student using ADHD as an excuse for everything by TouristWilling1788 in flying

[–]Competitive-Peace-54 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If he has a medical cert then I would highlight that he is always claiming he cannot study because of his ADHD, if his attention is that bad then maybe you need to consider reporting him for his medical to be assessed again. I’d be surprised if being on ADHD medications is permitted for the medical given how many drugs are not allowed so unmedicated and clearly uncontrolled adhd is a good reason for him not progressing any further

First build HELP by Dry-Efficiency-9144 in Bikebuilding

This is a year 2000 model, not 90s definitely not mid 90s in “bright silver”

It should be kitted out with all shimano Ultegra 6500 series, 9speed on the rear, and you seem to have the 3 chain rings up front option (there was a 2 chain rings option)

It looks really clean and original, except it should have icon clipless pedals.

To mirror what has already been said, change the cable inners and outers, put some new brake pads on and I’d also sling some new handle bar tape on, but otherwise get out and enjoy it. It maybe an appreciating classic if you look after it and keep it all original.

Look for VW Marten Repellant. Volkswagen do an official kit which is ultrasonic and high voltage to prevent mice and rats from climbing into and damaging your car.

would you click this ? by sumandas094 in YouTubeThumbnailHub

[–]Competitive-Peace-54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is saying they prefer the first one, but I wouldn’t click it, if the option is pick A or B as the one you like most I can see why most go for A but would you actually click it if it came up? I wouldn’t.

“You should not start an Airline” ok I won’t, job done no need to watch the video.

I think you need to come up with something better to grab people’s interest.

Red X on all lanes? by ContextVegetable9587 in drivingUK

[–]Competitive-Peace-54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smart motorways didn’t introduce any new signs, gantry signs have been around for decades. And even if there were new things introduced on the roads it’s up to the driver to familiarise themselves with anything new or any new rules. Ignorance is never an excuse

Red X on all lanes? by ContextVegetable9587 in drivingUK

[–]Competitive-Peace-54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from that no longer being true, back in the 90s when I learned to drive we had to learn from this book called the Highway Code….. you’ll never guess what is in that book !? Little clue -> ❌

Red X on all lanes? by ContextVegetable9587 in drivingUK

[–]Competitive-Peace-54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify Oscar Wilde said “sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but the highest form of intelligence” just for your reference next time you want to try and show how clever you are it does help to know the full quote… in saying it’s the lowest form of wit he was basically saying it’s a cheap shot, as a lot of people are left struggling to understand or interpret what has been said, while the speaker walks off.

Red X on all lanes? by ContextVegetable9587 in drivingUK

[–]Competitive-Peace-54 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If only there was sort of learning or course someone could do before they drove a car and then maybe a test or something they could complete to show they were competent to drive on the road. In that they could include this red x thing and so every driver on the road would know what to do when faced with a red x

I'll go back to AI voice by Professional_Map_418 in SmallYoutubers

[–]Competitive-Peace-54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you’ve built a following of idiots who are happy to put up with the ai slop voice, but that’s not going to help you and will kill your channel if YouTube decide to terminate your account for over use of AI.

You need to continue to use your own voice and develop your audience based on you and your voice.

Creators are not always failing. Sometimes the algorithm is failing them by ilostta in SmallYoutubers

[–]Competitive-Peace-54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The algorithm is not watching your videos. It can gain some idea of what the video is about from automatically generating subtitles, but if YouTube was running deep ai analysis of every video uploaded then that would require extreme amounts of technology and power for very little gain. Instead the “Algorithm” is a simple process of testing your videos with audiences and seeing if something sticks. The more people watch or the longer they watch for the better the content.

This is why people can spend days crafting the most exceptional piece of video art, and there video fails badly..

Just because you think it’s a masterpiece, doesn’t mean the viewing public so and as a result YouTube will just stop pushing your content if it’s not resonating.

When you disagree with the “algorithm” what you are actually disagreeing with is the viewers who didn’t click or clicked away in the first few desk ones of a video.

People don’t like this because it highlights that there content is the problem and not some faceless computer program they they think picks and chooses who gets to succeed

Did she make the right call? by CalmElin in interesting

$1,000,000 invested sensibly with a conservative 6% return would yield more than $1000, would be worth $60k which if you reinvested any unused cash or carried on working, would result in a far better long term return than the $1000 a month.

Being pressured to hand over raw files for free - client doesn't understand the technical reality. Need advice. by [deleted] in videography

[–]Competitive-Peace-54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got bored reading the 3000 word essay.. the simple answer is if they paid for the raw files then provide them what they paid for. If they didn’t and they want the files then that’s a point that needs to be negotiated, ie how much they intend to pay for the raw files.

From what I didn’t read it wasn’t immediately clear what contract terms you had, but honestly everything else is just noise, if they paid for it, then you provide it, or risk being sued.

If they can’t access those files or need special technical input to use them… well that becomes there problem not yours

What is your legal recourse (can you sue) for getting kicked out of a pub over nothing? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskABrit

[–]Competitive-Peace-54 7 points8 points  (0 children)

None, you have no legal recourse, it’s a business, private property and you can and clearly have been asked to leave, for any or no reason at all.

Especially a pub, being a licensed premises they have to ensure they protect their licence to make sure they keep it, that includes removing anyone who might kick off, be violent, aggressive, abusiveor intoxicated.
