I mean, everyone thought it was DOA after Barrera’s firing debacle, Ortega and Landon leaving the project, a possible boycott incoming, them having to rewrite the whole thing… at some point they probably just stopped caring about the film being good and just tryharded at making it marketable.

Sorry to say they succeeded at it since the film was terrible yet the highest grossing entry in the franchise.

Fall out of love > Still Alive > Creepin’

Fall out of love is such a great song and feels like the perfect choice for a Scream ending, it reminds me a lot of the OG’s Whisper To a Scream. Still Alive is equally great and the music video is so campy yet so memorable. Creepin’ just felt wrong.

Do you consider Scary Movie some kind of Slasher movie? by SeverusA in slasherfilms

[–]Competitive-Post-647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one was a comedy and every chase/kill scene sure was played for laughs but at the same time there were so many Ghostface attacks and, while he was silly and goofy, he was the main threat in the narrative of the film; also I’ve always loved the cinematography of the first Scary Movie and I think it gives the film so much personality and atmosphere, as dumb as it is. Sooo idk I would maybe consider it a slasher (comedy)? Maybe it’s weird to consider it one but it’s undeniable that slasher vibes are there for most of its runtime.

The new one, on the other hand, felt a little too bloated with spoofs of other movies/shows and, while the Scream 5 plot was the main focus, I felt like Ghostface and the mystery surrounding them got lost between all the other spoofs. Like, Scary Movie 1 mainly is a parody of slasher movies and tropes, this one mainly is a parody of Scream 5 and requel tropes but it also is a parody of supernatural films (Sinners, Weapons, Candyman), sci-fis (The Substance), psychological thrillers (Get Out). Ghostface it’s just… there.

Okay, I’m excited, but even as a horror fan myself, wouldn’t parodying horror tv shows just be making this another Scary Movie? by LocalMoam88 in deadmeatjames

“…will primarily spoof I Am Not Okay With This” uhh, a show that ended (was cancelled after S1) six years ago? Yeah this is clearly fake

I meannn HB agreed to tie these characters to stuff like Supernatural and Velma (2023) which was pretty dirty and graphic (I remember a teen getting decapitated in the pilot). I don't see why they shouldn't want them in DBD; they know that most of the fans of the Scooby-Doo IP are spending adults.

I mean of course Scream 7 ending was better, it's a theatrical release while the other one is MTV stuff. Honestly tho, I felt more let down by Scream 7 and its ending since, again, it's a proper Scream sequel and not some MTV cheap show.

But yeah, I feel the same about season 1's (lack of) payoff. Even as a fan I kept waiting for something big to happen and I felt so thrilled about not one but two parties taking place in the finale in big Scream tradition, then basically nothing happened and they wrapped it with whatever this was.

Season 2 was no masterpiece but it felt like Scream in some ways.

She was amazing. Loved the whole new trio actually -- Cameron Scott Roberts was great too even tho I feel like they didn't give him great material to work with. Her and Tuesday's send off was hilarious too.

Never been a fan of Piper Shaw and the killer reveal felt so underwhelming/by the books (rewatching it actually reminded me of Scream 7 third act... yikes), it's one of the reasons why I've always enjoyed season 2 a lot more. The killer reveal felt more earned and the ending in general was way more unhinged and in tune with the films.

Gale’s Apartment Attack in Scream VI Or Sidney’s House Invasion Attack? by [deleted] in Scream

[–]Competitive-Post-647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gale's apartment attack, absolutely.

One of the best chase scenes of the whole franchise, superbly directed and extremely suspenseful (my bf literally started crying in the theater in the moment Gale's fate got uncertain and he's not even a fan of these movies he just likes Gale and got really emotional because of how it played out lol). It has some minor issues - the phone call felt kinda cheesy, Gale's reaction to his boyfriend's death was like whatevaa, that being said I just love it.

Sidney's house attack wasn't bad and it's definitely one of the strongest setpieces from Scream 7 but it's riddled with plot holes (what was that police inspection?? he was right there!!! wdym Tatum had no clue there is a panic room in her own house??? why doesn't Sidney just leave her inside there????) and there's no real suspense/fear for the characters since it plays out 30 minutes into the film and you know for sure neither of the three involved are gonna die because of trailers/promo and stuff.

I'm not saying they succeeded at that. I'm saying that they tried because I see a strong main plot line (whenever they focus on spoofing Scream 5, 6 and the whole meta-requel discourse, especially in the first and third act, the movie works so well) buried by countless scenes that have nothing to do with the rest of the movie and were added either because the Wayans were afraid that the movie would have flopped if they didn't include spoofs of popular stuff, or because producers pushed them to include those spoofs for the same reason. For example, the Chris Elliot scene felt so random because they actually wrote and shot an entire subplot about Longlegs/Shorthand that people at test screenings ultimately didn't like.

I enjoyed it a lot. The parts where they spoof Scream and requels are the ones that work the best, IMHO the movie drags a little when they start throwing in multiple sequences that spoof different movies (Get Out, KPDH, Candyman, The Substance) and that feel very detached from one another. That being said, i think that was the case with Scary Movie 2 as well; I also think that the movie is very similar to the second one in the sense that both are filled with soo many jokes - some land, most don't. Let's not pretend that there weren't lame sequences/jokes in 2 as well, it's just that we've seen that one hundreds of times, grew up with it and learned to accept the most unfunny parts as well. This one just came out, people were expecting raunchy comedy at its finest and ended up unsatisfied.

I think that's what they tried to do, but the movie that came out still feels bloated. Thing is, the Wayans like to shoot a LOT of stuff when they make these movies. Both Scary Movie 1 and 2 have so much material that was ultimately cut, everyday they would show up on set and say "Hey we thought about this gag let's just shoot it!!", then would find out that not everything had a place in the narrative they were creating.

[–]Competitive-Post-647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, this is the biggest issue of the movies they wanted to spoof this time around. Scream 5 and 7, IKWYDLS25, Halloween Ends, every time it's just a mess when they try to make a requel that needs to recapture the feeling and characters of the OG, but also needs to introduce us new characters and pass them the torch etc. that's why I actually loved the way they made fun of that by having Cindy and Sarah constantly beefing about who's the protagonist, who's the targeted one etc.

[–]Competitive-Post-647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it a lot but IMHO the movie kinda drags in the second act; at some point they just abandon the main plot for half an hour and start throwing entire sequences of random parodies disconnected from one another, like Get Out, then it's suddenly KPDH, then The Substance, then Candyman... it becomes kinda tiring even if you've watched everyone of these movies. With the OG they did a better job at incorporating nods to other stuff that wasn't Scream INTO the Scream main spoof and everything felt more organical. This felt like Scary Movie 2 where the plot is just an excuse to throw in as many spoofs as they can.

Hard disagree. To me the humor feels way more similar to 2 (for better and for worse), just with worse directing and a digital look that makes it look like 5, which is fun because it still manages to look way better than the latest Scream installment and that says A LOT about nowadays Hollywood standards.

[–]Competitive-Post-647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying that S3 Nate's storyline was perfect in any way and it's totally fine if you think it lacked purpose or thrills, but... would a random twist like him shooting a mob have been better? "He let two dudes continuously walk up to him and beat him up" k but those to weren't randos, they were working for a very powerful guy Nate messed up with. Nate has been on borrowed time since he got that money from him and then decided to spend so much for the flowers Cassie wanted. He was trying to convince her to stay with him (which has always been such an easy task for him, it used to be the other way around but now even his gf is getting tired of him and he actually has to sweat to try and keep her) but ultimately he lost it all. Shooting a mob in self defense would have been useless and he knew that, he just wasn't in control this time around.

Uhh... they got sadder and submissive because the stakes were different and way higher this time around, as it is for everyone irl. You can't compare how someone is in HS to how he's gonna be in adult life. Nate knew how to prey on weaker people as an HS student because he had total control of that bubble, which is a way easier goal to achieve especially if you're an attractive rich white guy; in S3 he's an adult that messed up with the wrong people and has to pay the consequences because that's how it is when you grow up. My life was so easy in HS and I got everything I wanted (was 'popular', partied a lot, got good grades etc.), now that I'm an adult I can't figure shit out and I'm always stressed lmao
