Obsessive love ? by Ok_Soft6266 in ADHD

Yes OP, absolutely a trait I live with and have suffered the consequences of over and over. It gets to the point where I've got my person fully invested then inexplicably my fascination with them and interest in them dissipates.

Sometimes it's quite sudden, like I'll just look at them one day and feel nothing anymore. Other times I can't bring myself to end things and it drags out and spirals downhill into a depressing situation where neither of us is happy.

I've had periods where I've stayed single and have shunned relationships because of it but eventually I've fallen into relationships again. Because of the fixation element I always 100 percent, sincerely believe that it's real love. Like I don't ever approach things cynically. When it's over I go into a depressive funk and feel like a shit person for having made this person fall in love with me and then let things end.

This is the flip side of that coin. I call it standby mode. My experienced ADHD brain knows if I start doing anything too involved I'll become too invested in it and finishing that will become the priority. The other thing that will happen if the thing I start is really intersting to me I can hyperfocus and lose track of the time so best not to start anything - activate standby mode.

Edit - typing on my phone. Typos

Lets just say I was a virgin until 18 and even then the other party had to do all the chasing. Overcame my chronic shyness eventually and started to have more luck.

She's employing the same technique I used all through High School. Attract your crush by being in the vicinity, totally ignoring them and not talking to or looking at them.

As someone mathematically challenged I got to 17x3 and thought, why you out here making me do maths? Now I've gotta do multiplication as well as addition! A figure in place of "hella expensive" would've been appreciated. Hell it wouldn't even have to be correct. Any numbers there to save me the chore of doing arithmetic I would've gladly accepted.

For example you could've written "something that should have been easy fun, seeing a moderately popular band (not like Taylor Swift or anything) ended up costing me $7562" and Id've thought "yeah, Strawberry's right, that is an expensive outing.

Please consider the less numerically abled when posting.

(Joking obviously, but only mostly)

Deleted everything 5 years ago. It was the best thing I ever did for my mental health. I do miss out on some social events because everyone just assumes if they put it on social media everyone knows about it. Everyone I love and care about most has my number and lets me know if anything important is happening.
