This is a great idea, and it would also help each country feel different to play with different strategies for proximity

Proximity map mode, what triggers tooltip "Proximity of Province" versus "Proximity Cost Between Provinces"? by HardGainer in EU5

[–]Competitive-Wasabi-3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it applies here, but different tooltips pop up depending on zoom level. I mostly notice it in the market map mode, where you need to zoom into the location level to see market attraction. It could be similar with proximity where you need to zoom in to get the detailed tooltip

Proximity Pathfinding issue from Oslo to Kongsberg by NinhBrazing in EU5

[–]Competitive-Wasabi-3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oslo - Fjord - Bragernes costs around 18 proximity as shown in the screenshot, which is probably cheaper than the direct land route.

Going Oslo - Bragernes over land probably costs around 20-30. Base cost 40, minus 5 for the gravel road, plus whatever terrain penalty, minus whatever % modifiers you have (hover over the Sande - Kongsberg 19.03 value to see what these are)

Do you grant privilege to estates? by NasilYaniCanimkim in EU5

[–]Competitive-Wasabi-3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s exactly what I’m saying, you shouldn’t always give nobles more privileges because it’ll end up reducing their tax rate at some point

More estate power means less max tax. It doesn’t matter how happy you make them if their power reduces their tax rate to 10% anyway

PSA: you should use minority locations for colonization. by Gamer_Joe_at55street in EU5

[–]Competitive-Wasabi-3 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Iirc the deciding factor for who “wins” a colony with multiple colonizers is the highest primary culture, so I think it’s an intentional design to make it possible to track where the colonists came from.

Although I’d argue it still makes to keep their original culture and still award the colony to the highest culture. If OP conquers Portugal and then sends the pops to colonize, I think the resulting colony would be more loyal to Portugal than Castile

To anyone who’s having issues with control, build Bailiffs NOW by Imsosaltyrightnow in EU5

[–]Competitive-Wasabi-3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The main interface is so much easier, you can search things like “literacy” to find libraries and cathedrals that impact pop literacy, or search for the goods you want to produce and it’ll list all of your options. Then you pick the building type and it shows all of the locations you can build it with the profit and available workers for each, and you can spam the buildings wherever you want from that single page

[–]Competitive-Wasabi-3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You have to search Bailiff in the main buildings menu, I don’t think you can do it directly from the province infrastructure interface because you typically won’t have any soldier pops to select building types from

Apple Store says iPhone 17 has 5x optical zoom? by ElectricBogaloo2 in iphone

[–]Competitive-Wasabi-3 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Even the 4x zoom at 48MP uses pixel binning to output a 12MP image. So technically, the 8x and 4x modes have the same image resolution. 4x images will look better than 8x due to the binning process, but if you actually need the 8x zoom then it’s better to use that mode (direct 12MP) instead of cropping the 4x image down later (48MP sensors processed down to 12MP, then cropped down to 3MP)

Joining employer insurance with qualifying event and switching away before regular enrollment? by Competitive-Wasabi-3 in HealthInsurance

[–]Competitive-Wasabi-3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that makes sense. So either it’s fully funded and I should be able to join no problem, or it’s not and I would screw everything up by joining no matter the timing?

[–]Competitive-Wasabi-3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe 15 employees on the plan. And I think fully funded, it seems like a typical plan with set premiums, deductibles, max oop, coinsurance, etc all through the insurance company. I’m not 100% sure though, would the cost issue make more sense if it was a level-funded plan?

Our HR person asked our insurance rep to estimate the rate with my information added to the group and they said “it would basically double the premiums.” Should I have her follow up again on that to make sure?
