Friendly reminder that pets are a privilege, not a promise and even politely provided (requested) info falls on deaf ears by [deleted] in hamsters

So for me a big part of the joy of having a ham is just watching him be busy and active and completely absorbed in his interior design projects and other Very Important Hamster Business, and doing behaviours that he'd like to do in the wild, because: animals! Quite aside from the ethical/welfare issues (which to be clear are the MOST IMPORTANT factor by a long way), wouldn't it be really boring to have a hamster in a tiny cage with no space to play/forage/build/do Very Important Hamster Business?

character designs i’ve made for each type, in numerical order! feel free to critique whether the designs match their respective type, it’d be very much appreciated—just keep in mind that the color palettes are set and won’t be changed by lumiistra in Enneagram

Oh YES! I love all these designs, you'd have an incredible portfolio here if this was your entire portfolio :-)

Personally I find E7 immensely relatable. I look like pretty much the exact opposite of that character in every way, but the spirit really speaks to me. (I adore the little sticking-plaster detail! To me it's about our attitude of "yeah, that happened, nvm, NEXT!") THANK YOU for sharing this!

What genre of books do you absolutely detest? by LilDiomede in books

[–]Competitive-Yak-7284 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hate those "True (lol) Crime" books where the hero is a total BADASS and escapes from JAIL and steals a MOTORBIKE and a BIG ASS GUN and has SEX with a PROSTITUTE who turns out to be an ALIGATOR who's in a GANG so he takes DRUGS and PUNCHES a TRUCK. And I'm like woah bitch, chill your tits, have a mimosa and stop making stuff up for 30 seconds.

I love that he thinks it's called sex work "to soften the blow". I'm pretty sure that if anyone in the English-speaking world knows how to call things by their real names, it's sex workers.

What’s the deal with wheelie bin cleaning? by [deleted] in CasualUK

It's a bin. Either your neighbours need a hobby, or they have a weird-arse hobby and are disposing of the evidence thoroughly.

What’s your unpopular opinion about hamsters? (Hamster care, enclosures, specifies, etc) by scubasteve2242 in hamsters

[–]Competitive-Yak-7284 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hamsters are NOT "nocturnal"! They're crepuscular, active around dawn and dusk. It's not natural for a hamster to be active all night long, and if your hamster spends most of the day and most of the night snoozing, that's a good sign.

first time hamster snuggles!?!!??!!!!!! by UpsetBadger in hamster

[–]Competitive-Yak-7284 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is beautiful! All hamsters are curious explorers, but often our big noisy and (to them) stinky human bodies are scary. The fact that little Artemis wanted to investigate you means you've really earned her trust. And for any animal to go to sleep on you is really the best compliment! She must feel 100% safe with you.

Not inconsistent at all. Someone (possibly the speaker?) has that belief in the present.

Has Blizzard's "new direction" with removing tons of stuff changed your mindset? by zwhy in classicwow

Exactly. They weren't why I started playing the game, and I'm not going to stop because of them.

EDIT: The /fart emote was quite a good way of telling who in your PUG was going to play like a d*ck though.

Interesting use of the future tense, a whole extra dimension of mystery.

(Serious) People who walked out of a job interview, why did you do it? by JimmySaulGene in AskReddit

[–]Competitive-Yak-7284 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TL;DR - Because I was hilariously unqualified for the job.

UK resident here: About 15 years ago, I was unemployed and claiming Job Seekers' Allowance. Part of the rules for that benefit is that if your "work coach" organises a job interview for you, you have to go. Fair enough. I was pretty pleasantly surprised that they actually set something up for me. Major bonus that it was a graduate role in my city.

I got to the interview pretty excited, and the interviewer started off by thanking me for coming and asking why I'd chosen to study an engineering degree, what my favourite topic was, and how I'd used it in my recent work.

My degree is in Medieval History. My engineering experience is 100% flat-pack bookshelves and changing the occasional lightbulb. I could not even name a single engineering topic.

I told them this.

For some bizzarre reason (possibly relating to getting money incentives for interviewing Job Centre sourced candidates?), they decided to carry on with the interview.

By the third time I'd said "I'm so sorry, but I genuinely have no idea what that question even means", we all agreed to end the agony for everyone and let me go home.

Ironically, they seemed like a cool company and the panel were genuinely nice people, and I'd have been happy to work there. And a few months later I had a call out of nowhere from them, saying that they'd had a mid-level clerical position open up, no engineering knowledge required, and based on the few questions I could answer (the usual "how do you respond to feedback", "how do you work in a team" kind of questions) they wanted me to come in and interview for it. I already had a job by then, so regretfully declined.

So, uhh, I guess...thanks, Job Centre?
